Re:a little nonsense, but hey - it's near April Fo
bullshit. sweden REQUIRES every household have a full Assualt rifle, afterall evryone spends time in the militia. do you see thier violent crime rate going through the roof? no you don't Gun ownership has nothing to do with the US violent crime rate. The fact the most European nations have a population that mostly gets along and has mostly one culture in a given area.(exceptions noted)
However the U.S. has damn near every frigging culture in the world lumped into one place. And you think it is because of guns? think for a min. do you REALLY belive that all of these cultures and religions are going to play nice with each other in the sandbox? not a chance.
Religious tension, racisism, cultural differences and intolerance THAT is why the US has such a high vilolent crime rate, and will long into the furture even if you ban all guns, it will be done with bats or whatever.
Once you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns.
Read this and be enlightened

Re:Slight problem
I don't think that's a solution. As a law abiding citizen I'd only carry a gun if I was going to kill someone, all my friends have the same belief.
That is an interesting belief, nothing wrong with that -- but what you say further down concerns me.I misplace my cellular phone all the time, if I carried a gun I'd probably ending up misplacing that a lot too. I don't wake up in the morning expecting to kill someone, even in self-defence, hence I never carry weapons.
I don't wake up in the morning expecting to fight a fire or pull a car out of a ditch, but I carry tow straps and an extinguisher in my truck. OTOH, if you feel that you are that unreliable and do not want to take responsibility for your own defense, then you shouldn't carry weapons. When someone robs you, it tends to happen at an inconvenient time. If I had a lethal weapon built into my brain or something then maybe I'd use it at that time, but then when I go to a bar, get totally drunk and shoot someone as a joke, I mean that's not something I want to do. I cannot guarantee that I won't do that when I'm drunk, I don't think anyone can and thus guns are bad.
That is a rather simplistic view of the world. I have never done anything to hurt somebody 'as a joke' drunk or sober. I don't normally 'Get totally drunk', and my friends who have CHL's drink even less frequently. Statistics support the assertion that CHL holders are overall more responsible and law-abiding than the average citizen. If I walked into a bar and even suspected anyone in there who might be drunk might have a gun even for self-defence, I'd walk straight out and go to another bar.
It's just like the 'Don't drink and drive' campaigns. If you are going out to get drunk, you find a designated driver. The difficult choice is what do do when having a couple of drinks with dinner...

Re:Silly Merkins
Hee! Good one, limey! You think that one up yourself? Yer mum must be real proud, eh?
Sorry to break it to ya, but you fools simply misspell aluminum. And as for us being "hillbillies" (do you even really know what a hillbilly is?), well, if it weren't for us, all you gap-toothed, mutton-chewing buggers would be speaking German.
Cheerio! -
Re:Its an analogy
Also you know there are less than 20 Sumatran Tigers left. AFAIC a that makes each Sumatran Tiger more valuable than every American one the planet (250million over 6 billon = 1/24). . Consequently (if I was put in such a position) I would kill 6000 Americans without hesitation, if it would save the life of a Sumatran tiger.
You are truly a sick and twisted bastard. Leaving aside nationalities for a moment, how anybody can put the lives of animals ahead of people never ceases to amaze me. I wouldn't be surprised if you bomb medical-research labs and bust animals out of zoos, either.(That said, you're probably some sort of anti-American left-wing Euro-trash...just what part of Europe are you from?)

Re:To Stop Guns
For one thing, there are already something like 50 million legally privately owned firearms in the US today, and heaven knows how many illegal ones.
Fifty million?
Try nearly Two Hundred Forty Million. There are between Sixty-Five and Eighty Million (as of 1994 in previous link) legal gun owners in the USA. Nearly four million firearms were sold in 1995 alone.
The math is left as an exercise for the reader.

Re:many people 'thinking'
Gun control makes it harder to get hold of guns.
Drug Prohibition makes it harder to get Drugs
In otherwords, no it doesn't, it just makes it harder to get legally.
Here is what happens when you take guns OUT of the hands of law abiding citizens:
- After the Australian Gun Ban
- This one requires a little bit of reading between the lines--It talks about shootings in London, UK. Execpt that the private ownership of firearms in England is verboten
There was another graphic on the web somewhere that I cannot seem to find that shows a rise in violent crime in England over time. It is interesting when you compare that graph against the increase in anti-gun laws. The more draconian the restrictions, the higher the violent crime rates.
