Re:what's next? - A Solaris Runtime web app!
FoxPro for DOS 2.6
But it's not my choice! Stupid application still works like a charm. Whoever wrote it back in '92 did a pretty decent job overall. New enhancements are written by me grudgingly. A re-write is in the pipes, so I'll be looking forward to turning it into a web app and be done with it.
FoShizzle! Don't rewrite that app! Just use the solaris RunTime and run it on Linux. Output your screens in HTML, and make it a webapp on Linux!Yes. I did that:

Solaris Runtime:

You'll need to use another program to call your FoxPro app (outputting HTML comments) otherwise you'll get ansi gook in your page. -

Re:Nice..It's nice eye candy but I really don't see how this will make a user more efficient as it seems to be distracting (just more ammo for those with ADD). I do find Windowmaker's multiple workspaces to be a great boon though but it's not XP.
But litestep works in XP. If you don't want to dink around with setting it up, I have a simple one I port from PC to PC here. Just unzip it to c:\litestep, and run the executable.

Re:Question
You obviously are a spammer and that's why you love them so. Why else would you even be receiving complains from RR? It's no wonder they don't want you associated with them.
And to help you get a taste of your own medicine: Have a nice day, rick@havokmon.com

Re:Instead of buying the x-arcade cabinet - Wha?Rescue an unloved genuine arcade cabinet,
Yes! It's always great to have a new person get addicted

Re:Patently abusiveThat exactly describes the little rectangles in the toolbar on my Linux box
... from several years ago.Or Litestep - Replace explorer.exe with litestep on Windows 95, and get a completely stable system.
Oh, and virtual desktops with shadows representing your windows - which you can move between virtual desktops from the pager itself. (I still would like to do that in KDE)
I have my own personalized copy (just run litestep.exe) on my website. Just unzip to c:\litestep, and run litestep.exe. It's an older version, but works like a charm.

Re:So?
You are full of crap. I was able to run Win98 for 2 years without a reformat,
Oh, sorry. My mistake.I thought you were talking about running Win-98 for weeks without a reboot.
I've done that - no troll. The trick is to replace Explorer as your shell with something stable, like litestep. My personal setup is on my website.

At least you didn't hack up a Millipede cabI just sank $500 into a brand-new 19" monitor for my box, so I am thrilled seeing a similar project get the recognition.
Jesus dude. Get a new one from Victor Geneao for $100.
I got a 25" from him for $230 shipped. And WHY did he use a Millipede cab? -
The Reg's 'Scariest Server Room' everApparently, this is what they say is their scariest server room.
That doesn't surprise me. I have a strange feeling many of you have been caught doing this in front of your pc.
So much for my Delta Force keyboard layout

Re:Motorcycles are built for style and speed......not fuel efficiency. They have been in the past- it was one of the biggest selling points of the Yamaha Virago back in the 70s. But no one cares now. They either want big, ground- pounding Harleys, or Grand Prix poseur sport bikes. If people really wanted fuel efficient motorcycles, they'd get them. Blame motorcyclists, not manufacturers.
hehehe, that's funny, because I LOVE my 'new' '84 Virago -
- I like the look - Harley ripoff
- Good mileago - 45MPG regularly
- And it rumbles nice with non-stock pipes. - Nobody has stock pipes anymore anyways.
- Can't beat the price - ~$1500 Blue Book.
Now I just need some saddle-bags, and I'm all set (stock 2.9gal - you can upgrade it to a 5gal)
Yeah.. Maybe it's just because I live in Milwaukee, but nobody buys a motorcycle and rides it 'as-is' anymore. You start with a style, or template, and make it 'your own'. Something like %50 of Harley's sales are in after-market parts. Pipes, handlebars, chrome, leather.. Gas mileage is secondary (unless you're cheap like me)
Plus.. Hell, this is Wisconsin. You know, the FROZEN TUNDRA. How can anyone consider a bike a good replacement for a car? He must be from CA, I just about froze my fingers off this morning..

Re:This is exactly why...I don't have deer, just some ground hogs. Check out this beauty though! 19 inches [fperkins.com]
Jesus Frank. Do I want to click that link? I hardly know ya.
Oh. It's not a 19in Ground Hog.
Yeah Well... Damn. You suck.
:PSome of us have so much work we need two computers!
I meant compliant as in corporate standards. Normally, removing IE and putting Opera isn't on the approved actions list. This probably only applies to bigger companies though...
Ahhh yes. I don't work well with large companies. They seem to have a problem with me deciding what technical direction the company should take
:P (In fact, I consult for a former boss from that world, and he still does the same "I'll ask your opinion, then ignore it" shit. Ah well, we're all familiar with the technical prowess of the executive accountant ;) )Just be careful.. soon he/she will start installing their own software and the next thing you know, you'll be trying to figure why WinSpeed 2002 doesn't play nice with Super Contact List 98 muha!
I don't have to worry about that. These guys PERSONALLY report any and all Norton Virus Notifications. I have them wrapped around my little finger!
:P (Now I wish I would have saved that picture of the girl 'bowing' in my doorway ;) -
Re:This is exactly why...You're pretty brave. The last thing you want to do is install a non compliant program on the president's puter. I actually had Opera crash more on me than IE.
Really? I've had basically ZERO issues on Windows, and random crashes on Linux with Opera. Most of the Opera issues I've run into are 'site display' related. I don't know what you mean by "non-compliant", are you following an MS-approved list? Like the Hardware guide? In any case, IE was being a major nuisance (because of the virus/cache issue), and it definately had to go.
Though I CAN see Opera not being on one of those lists. I installed 'Compatibility Pack 2' on my XP test machine, and sure enough, it broke Opera and Litestep, both MS replacement apps!
:PI would love to see the IT folks when they come over to fix his computer next time and he has no IE to run updates and Opera comes up as the default web browser. Unless you *are* the IT dept
;-)There, you hit the nail on the head! Yep, I AM the IT department, and the president is 3 offices over from me
;). (Oh, and the Deer outside my window - ok, I'm done rubbing it in.)In any case, The IEradicator doesn't REALLY remove IE completely, you can still open a folder in explorer, and type in an URL to browse with IE. I've had more problems with Windows Update after removing VBScript than I've had with IEradicator.
You think that's bad, I'm beta-testing OpenOffice too! (but not on the President's machine yet!)
You have to admit, though, it's weird when the president asks you about the "squashed cat" on her monitor.
Long pause..."Oh that's Irfanview. You'll be able to view some of those pictures you couldn't before, and it's free." -
