Re:Questions about OS X - somewhat offtopic
launchd, like most services in OS X, can be manipulated at the command line over ssh. There is a command line version of just about every system program (softwareupdate for Software Update, diskutil, for Disk Utility, launchctl for controlling launchd, mdfind for Spotlight, etc.)
There's
I just wrote about calling an AppleScript from launchd here: http://hohle.net/scrap_post.php?post=217
There's a host of programs and frameworks which are available from daemons (and therefor launchd) here: http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2005/tn2083 .html#TABFRAMEWORKCROSSREFERENCE
iTerm works, but I find myself going back to Terminal.app (it does color, just no tabs). The default environment is very bare bones (more like a BSD then a Linux), ls -G is the equivalent to GNU ls's ls --color (that helps a lot ;). -
Re:Automatic tagging
I've created a way of accurately tagging blog posts in a specific domain using bayesian classification with a few additional layers.
The rub is that the classification is highly domain sepecific. I'm currently working on adapting the same approach to a more generic, and its not working out to bad. -

Re:this a fake ?
i'm pretty sure this is fake, here's a quick rundown of when this story has been run before:

this time, Reuters got a hold of it though, and apparently didn't go to deep into their fact checking. -
Re:Yes, there are people that dumbWe've been over this.
If you prefer, check the original linked article.
Short answer? Windows boxes seem to miss deleted files during runtime somewhat less than you might expect. So technical feasibility is not a show-stopper in this story.

Re:Okay now...
If i'm not mistaken,
Unlike Linux, Windows will not delete any dll or exe currently in memory, or for that matter any file that has an open handle. It will however allow you to rename (ren) them.
Here's one comparison on how easy it is to hose Windows and Linux -
Re:Impossible commands...
I think Microsoft quite clearly knows that this would cause armageddon.
Oh, and by the way, you can also do "del /f /s /q *". Here's the full report.

here's the story -
It is NOT easy to format drives
It is not really true that "format c:" will destroy a modern Windows installation, even as admin. I have actually tried this on a laptop that screwed up after Service Pack 2, and you are not allowed to format without unmounting, and you can't unmount the system drive. Sorry to spoil an old threat/joke.
It probably worked in DOS or Win9X, and that started the myth.
Just to prove that I'm not trolling to make people try it out, there's an article about it here, which basically says that while format c: doesn't work, "del /F /S /Q *" does (it doesn't format, but it does remove all files). That's "del /F /S /Q *", slashdotters. Remember it. Change old jokes to include it, and run it if you see a Windows machine. -
I've seen that image before...
... this one, I mean. And I'm convinced it is one of those Magic Eye things.
