Is this really news?
There are over 10,000 hosting companies out there, is this really news? It seems like hundreds of them flop every day. Anyhow, Jatol people, I like www.ubiquityhosting.com, www.hostway.com, and www.gate.com, any of those get my recommendation. Good luck with your sites and don't get discouraged; these things happen to the best of us. ( :

Re:RTFA
In fact, a quick survey of Hostway's site this morning does not even list this study in an obvious place. There's a little note at the bottom of the home page directing people to a piece at news.com.com (identical I believe to the one cited here), but no copy of the press release itself, nor of the questionnaire used, nor of the sampling design used, nor of the actual results. Indeed we don't even know who conducted the survey on Hostway's behalf. For all we know, they used their own staff to conduct this study.
I've done professional survey research and polling off and on for twenty years. BS studies like this one do nothing to enhance our credibility with the public. -
Re:tyI know your post was kind aflamebaity, but I couldn't pass this up:
Here, lets do our own poll. Should be just as accurate as theirs.
I agree very much
This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.
I guess your post does have some merit. Most polls are inaccurate, as anyone who's done politics/government studying may know.
You have:- biased pollers (So, do you want vulgar, gross, and potentially terrorist-related information disseminated on these pages or do you wish to protect the helpless children?)
- Herd mentality (Ooh, all these people are voting for censorship, I shall also do so)
- Poller affiliation, although it seems ironic that Hostway, the runner of this survey, has the option for a personal website with a 'catch line' of "I use this website to express myself."

Who did the study?
Ah yes, nothing like an austrailian news organization (the writer not ZDNet), quoting a survey by some webhost (alot of people have probably never heard of) of 2500 people to tell what the 292 million Americans favor.

Hostway is the new host?
The netblock owner for Iranian Sutdents' News Agency (ISNA) appears to be Hostway, at least acording to Netcraft but it looks old.

Re:100 year lock-in and STILL too expensive
Or if you'd like even cheaper domains try EV1Servers at $6.49 (+tax), web.com for $6.95, Hostway for $6.95, or hell even eNom for $5.99. I've heard far too many nasty GoDaddy stories to go near that place with my domains.

Re:Register your own domainLet me be clear : I'm not a total fan of GANDI. They started out as an `` ethical '' registrar (arguing against the high prices demanded for something so mundane as a record in a database and in some domain name servers) and then last year their employees had to drag the managers to court because they were screwing them and generally mismanaging the company egregiously.
I register almost all my domains with Gandi, except when I have to use Dotster (via NameWinner, which now seems to suck). The rise of the Euro has been a PITA, but they make it easy to transfer domains.
I tried Hostway (because they're a sponsor of my favorite whois), but quit using them when I realized they had several "we can charge you an indeterminate amount" clauses in their domain registration agreement. I can't find the ones I was concerned about (regarding transfer-outs), but here's one example:Hostway has a zero tolerance policy for chargebacks. Any customer who disputes a credit card payment is subject to a fine, suspension and account termination at Hostway's discretion. A charge of $25.00 per chargeback will be assessed to all accounts that receive a chargeback.
And if you dispute the $25, will they add another $25, until they accumulate enough chargeback charges to reposess your house?
Even though Gandi's 12 Euro price has gone from us$10 to us$15.50, I'll take Gandi.
But like the AC poster, I'd like more info about their troubles, if you could find a URL... -
Re:A few things
How about hostway? $6.95 per year for renewals, or new domains.

Hostway.com
Hostway has done a great job for me. My WWW traffic is light enough that I can work with a virtual server, so for $135 I have their (W2K) Diamond package with 500MB storage, 30GB traffic, and 70MB of MS-SQL. They have Linux packages available, as well as dedicated boxes. 24x7 service has been great the few times I've needed them in 3 years.
