Re:Really how fast is this 1.25GHz machine
Anyone know this machine with the 1.25 GHz G4 processor fares against the new Intel 3.2Ghz processor with 1Gb RAM?
The 1.25Ghz G4 fares extremely well - It costs a lot less!
While the P4 3.2 costs between $300 and $400 just fo rthe chip, this $800 unit includes the 1.25 G4, Combo drive, 40GB hd, 256K Ram, CRT built in custom housing, video, networking, USB 2, Firewire800, Airport Extreme upgrade path, Bluetooth upgrade path, OS X Jaguar, iLife (Garageband, iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto, iTunes) and the cache of owning an Apple.
You can check out this review of the 1.25 Ghz G4 when it first came out and this review of the P4 3.2Ghz vs. an Athlon -
Re:The game was developed as an NVIDIA demo.
The game was made primarly as a graphics demo for NVIDIA cards. It makes sense, then, that it should be for NVIDIA cards, no?
Given that nVidia has tweaked its drivers specifically to make the drivers aware of when the computer was running 3DMark 2003, in order to use specially-optimized code specific to the 3DMark tests to boost its cards' benchmark scores, I'm not surprised that nVidia decided to bankroll development of software to show off its cards... certainly the benchmarks don't show them in a particularly good light... -
Re:Content Free Article?
Actually if you go to their showcase nr 8 they wrote this:
Please note that the texts and pictures are copied from the manufacturers websites / any other source. A link below every gadget is directed to the site we get the information. We do not get these cool gadgets for review purposes, although we would love to play with any of them.
They should put the same notice on the rest of them I suppose. -
No Kidding
Look at their "Review" of the iMac. They literally took Apple's own propaganda (from a year ago, since this is an old story), added a few exclamation points, and printed it. Now I like Apple just as much as anyone here, but it doesn't help anyone to portray this propaganda for a review. Furthermore, one look at their Aquaesque forum, and their perceived credibility and objectiveness take another hit.

Donald Knuth Is My CousinFrom the Sony PEG-SJ33 CLIÉ(TM) special features list: "Battery Life"
Wow, this PDA comes with battery life? Wow! I need one of these! I've been running around with a PDA that has batteries but no life! I always thought to myself, "You know, some life would be great for these batteries but, no, I dream too large."
(Mods, this isn't a troll - Check the review - they actually have "battery life" listed as a special feature.

.13 vs .9 in workstation/server and desktopaccording to this pic they will be switching to
.09 micron for desktops and sticking with .13 micron for servers/workstation is there a reason for this?is there any preformance gain if not then what?

Notice the spread eagle in...
this picture here... on the left hand side... eh wait a minute. Sorry, just a bent pin.

Re:Nice cap!Perhaps a tad off-topic, but did anybody notice on page 3 that 3 or 4 pins are bent on the bottom left corner of the CPU? Perhaps it is a bear to pry out of the socket these days?

Re:Time to convert all those Mac users ;)
Actually I use Linux because I like having locks on my doors and know that the lock version will be updated each time there's a new tool to pick it.
I use Linux because I like the ability to fully choose how my car will run and be able to modify it based on my needs for that day/week/month/year, not have my milage be dependant on what the parent company determines to be the "average" or "optimal". I do not want to have to take out a blowtorch to make modifications.
I use Linux because I want the ability to decide if I want my car to look like this or these and not have to be limited to the 4 or 5 styles available here. And because I want to be able to fit more than 4 (1) people (5.25 drives) into my car if I so please and not have to use a hacksaw to cut out part of the car.
I use Linux because the hardware it runs on is faster than the 'volkswagons' or the 'PT-cruisers' of the computer world and far less likely to flip going around the tight curves.
I use Linux because yes, it is cheaper and because yes, it does run on inexpensive fast hardware and give me the ability to use several operating systems on the same hardware if I so choose.
I use Linux because I do not believe on having choices taken away from me for no good reason and because I do not believe on form over function.
I use Linux because the community doesn't give me the feeling that unless I drive their car I'm somehow inferior. -
Microsoft's Xbox Set for Japanese Debut
From this news, we can see Microsoft is selling their xBox at a really affordable price. It does look like they are not making money from it and we are getting a good deal. But if you think about it, their marketing plots - they will be getting much more revenue back from the games sold for xBox! Too bad for them! With Emulators now working for a few xbox games, which I believe many more games later, and games copied all round the net, they will really care about their encription, security, and the hackers that time. Shuttle SV24 Mini BareBone System
Looking at the article, the Normal User Budget System which is low noise + small + affordable price + cool should be the cool SV24 Mini Barebone System! I have one of these and let me tell you, it's better than most ppl's system out there.
VIA C3 933 (new), 512MB SDRAM, GF2 MX (PCI), DVD-RAM, with onboard sound which is acceptable. The whole system is very low noise especially the power supply and the VIA which requires no fan.
The whole barebone is only $250 USD but of course, the DVD-RAM is quite expensive here. I get a good bargain for the GF2MX which performs just well for my gaming like RA2, RTCW, MC2, MW4, and NFS5.

Uncreative System
I think there system lacks any creativity. Now that you can buy all the processing power an average user needs very cheaply, why do they just make a budget system centered on performance ?
They should made a system centered on low noise or one that has good look or something other that isn't found in every system now.
What about making a small and quite system using a shuttle sv24 barebone with a passive cooled c3 ? Or a dual duron ?
And why did they just use 256 mb ? Now that ram is that cheap, they should brought at least 512 mb while that 1.4 ghz athlon isn't really needed. Or what about ECC sdram ? -
Re:The art of senfu...
heh, followed a link on that article and found out what it did to this poor bastard's chip.
