The future is here already ...
Look at this mobile from Motorola with GSM/GPRS, GPS and Linux. It also includes PDA functionalities and has the size of a credit card.
The only weak point may be the way you enter characters: with a jog-dial.
The future looks promising to me ;-) -
Hinges and battery life
I have been using my Psion 3a for over eight years now. The hinges have broken twice in that time, necessitating trips to Pinnock Organiser Services for a new case. However, I keep persevering with it because of its phenomenal battery life. Eight-year old technology, does everything I need in a PIM and it runs for three months on a couple of AA cells.
I did try an Agenda VR3 (no url as Agenda Computing seem to have gone bust and the Softfield site seems only to link to 10.1.1.1!) but couldn't be bothered to change the batteries every few hours. I would be prepared to sacrifice some battery life for features such as colour screens, wireless connectivity etc. but surely it's possible to get a week or so out of a set of batteries? How do things like the Zaurus perfom in normal use?
Incidentally, while checking the url above I noticed that POS (yeh I know - unfortunate acronym) also sell a linux PDA, the Filewalker. Anyone have any experience of this? -
filewalker TNG
check out the new filwalker from invair
well this little thing looks like a really nifty tool. it does not have java plastered all over it, but it will probably run java if you want as well as the sources are open. it also does not have a color screen which has limited use in a pda imho, atleast as long as the pda does not have a camera build in. but this thing has everything else you could wish for in a pda/phone and i dont even use sms so i doubt i will use mms :-) -

It's unfriendly
I tried it, and I am glad I don't own it. It screams unfriendliness from every pore. Granted, my Palm has spoiled me, but the guy who borrowed me his Agenda (no pun intended) was disappointed like hell.
Here's a Linux PDA I think might be a winner.
And an advice: don't buy ANY Linux of WinCE-based PDA before you try a Palm first. You must understand what a PDA is for, whether you need it, and what level of friendliness you need, if you think a PDA can be useful to you. -
