Re:Mozilla's font files?
Bullshit. Maybe Netscape was shareware, but nobody really thinks that's the same as "cost money".
Netscape Navigator was originally a boxed software product. I bought one once, to run on NT 3.51. Cost about $30.

When the head becomes ludicrous in size
An interesting book by Carl Sagan points out that the size of babies' heads seems to be bigger than women's pelvises were designed to handle
Which makes me wonder what the (in-universe) parents of this fellow went through at birth. Or these characters. Or these characters.

Re:Fair cop...
What always makes me wonder about these crimes... what did he think was going to happen?
He probably thought that nothing would happen. I mean, when the exact same device is being sold on many websites, he probably thought of himself as something of a retailer. Yea, he probably should have gotten a retailer license, but to charge him with copyright infringement? Maybe we should go after Jeff Bezos, since the exact same device is on Amazon.com...What was Bezos thinking?

I beg to differ.
On first looks it looks horrible with fake offers to make discussions about products or offers (e.g. http://www.ioffer.com/i/iphone-3G-Scam-Please-Read--59937406 ) This is somehow even worse than ebay.
Why can't there be a good market site out there? It can't be that hard for a major player.

Re:Paypal only
just visited this site hadn't heard of it til I saw your post. this sounds like a good site in general, but the large amount of bootleg computer software that I've already seen on the site such as the Microsoft Office 2007 blue edition found here http://www.ioffer.com/i/MS-Microsoft-Office-2007-Blue-Edition-Very-Rare-36496701 and the windows xp black edition found here http://www.ioffer.com/i/Windows-Xp-Pro-SP3-Black-Edition-2008--56542416 or even the Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 Preactivated http://www.ioffer.com/i/Windows-Vista-Ultimate-SP1-Preactivated-FREE-SHIP-43585521 sorry to break it to ya folks but all of these are hack jobs and not legitimate product from microsoft. I wonder how long until microsoft lowers the boom on ioffer for allowing these kinds of auctions to remain listed.

iOFFER.com
iOFFER.com is another. Instead of selling in an auction format, items are sold in a best price format. They also allow you to import your feedback and items from ebay, so it's no extra work to have your items both places.
There's also no listing fees.

There are many alternativesThey're all much smaller than EBay, but many of them have been growing very quickly the last 1 1/2 months.
A good place for general online-selling information is http://powersellersunite.com/. They have a nice chart showing the number of listings on various sites (click on Auction Site Count under Free Auction Tools).

Re:Numerical Data?Of the 220 people who worked on location, 91 contracted cancer by the early 1980s and 46 died of it -- including Wayne, co-stars Susan Hayward and Agnes Moorehead, and director Dick Powell. Statistically, only 30 people out of a group that size should have gotten cancer in their lifetimes.
Yes, and of course none of those people were heavy smokers. No, not a one of them (that's sarcasm by the way). Dick Powell used to advertise cigarettes, Wayne was a five pack a day smoker and even Agnes Moorehead (now this would be the name of a porno star, interesting how times change, isn't it?) was known to light up now and then. Of course killing yourself with a pack-a-day habit isn't as interesting as a conspiracy theory. Here's a nice picture of Dick Powell advertising Camels. Here's a nice clip of a TV commercial featuring the Duke peddling Camels. And Moorehead was 74 when she died of lung cancer. Oh wait, another google search reveals this picture of Susan Hayward hawking Chesterfields. Of course this could be a coincidence, perhaps none of these stars smoked at all, perhaps they were just pretending to smoke lots of cigarettes to get money from the tobacco companies. Perhaps they smoked cigarettes but never inhaled! Yes, that's it! It must have been that evil radiation!

I was going to say that your example was poor for a different reason.

Re:the dominant online auction site?
Rosalinda, one of the callers to the NPR interview with Adam Cohen (and evidently one of eBay's better known critics), mentioned sellyouritem.com and ioffer.com as two of the "thousands" of eBay alternatives. I took a look at both and there is some activity going on, although nothing like eBay.
The way I see it, the problem with any competitors is that anyone who wants to use an alternate site out of principle is probably going to have to settle for a lower price because there is no site that gets the sheer volume of people that eBay gets. Less people=less bids, less bids=lower price.
