Sorry to reply to myself, but if anyone's interested in numbers stations, the Conet Project has put together a 4-CD set of recordings from various numbers stations around the world, which you can download for free here, or purchase here. It's a fantastic listen.

Well, there are laws against stealing data from computer systems.

There have been a lot of people claiming they were stolen, so maybe she assumed that was the case. But emails are stolen all the time - often revealing information that Boxer is all too willing to use (without comment on how it was obtained), so long as it supports her agenda. But all of a sudden now she's concerned about unauthorized access to some other country's computers.

There was a claim of responsibility by the whistle-blower among the files.

The emails were sent to the media before they got out in public.

Plus, there are plenty of suspects.

And if you appreciate science, I found an interesting analysis from an expert (get it - he's an expert, so you can't question it without *years* of advanced study) which basically proves that it had to be an inside job.

Maybe the point isn't that the new system will have people trying to beat it in a variety of ways, which it obviously will, or that eventually they will succeed - and I'd guess that in this case "eventually" will be very soon - the point is that if the brand new shiney chromed super boxed set of three ID Cards are no better than the existing setup, where's the gain? Not one of the claims from the Gov. of exactly what they will help with holds any water - they simply won't help, and it's going to cost an arm and a leg!

On top of that there is the worry that it might actually make things worse - if the ID Card is incontravertable proof of identity and someone clones a card with your name + ID but their fingerprint/photo/whatever then they ARE you! ... or copies your fingerprint onto their fingers and commits a crime then YOU did it - no if's, no but's ... it was you ... the system said it was!

Something ironic about YHF. Wilco 'borrowed' the audio of the woman repeating 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' from the Conet Project http://www.irdial.com/conet.htm without permission and were consequently sued. The money was used to bring the otherwise dead project back to life. Has Slashdot ever done a story on number nstations?

I'm still waiting for somebody to successfully crack a numbers station, despite the theoretical impossibiliy of doing so.

Fujitsu have come out with a similar looking flexible display product.

It looks like we are going to get very light, very energy efficient displays, rsn. These might not be used in a flat form, but would be very useful in making hard cased laptops even lighter...or clipboard devices...its just amazing.
