Re:Never understand jailbreaking an Apple iOS devi
It doesn't work on current versions, but that's what http://www.jailbreakme.com/ was about.

Re:The Internet of Things...
Apple's iOs has been known as a bastion of security for many years
Uh, what? The fuck it has.
That had me chuckling as well.
Remember when you could visit a website to "slide to jailbreak"
from right inside the web browser? -
Re:"Get the Facts"
And there you go. I tried to stop you saying something stupid and you did it anyway.
So what was the timeline between vulnerabilites for the releases? Oh that's right you don't know, but don't let facts get in the way of your idiot assertions.
JailBreakMe is a website that could and was updated at any time without a version number change.
Yeah, that's a pretty standard feature of a website. The actual code and the vulnerabilities it exploited weren't regularly updated though, don't believe me? Go and have a look, the source code is all there...if you understand it.
1.0, 2.0, 3.0 were simply marketing. It didn't go from 1.0->2.0-->3.0 without intermediate changes.
And those intermediate changes were not necessarily new vulnerabilities, but then if you were familiar with jailbreakme then you'd know that.
It's now dead.

Re:The Most Secure Mobile OS
Wrong on both counts.
IOS jailbreaks are based on LOCAL root exploits. You have to have it in hand to jailbreak it. There is no drive-by jailbreak available.
ORLY? The most popular jailbreak exploits were simply something like downloading a malformed PDF file. That is something that can be easily converted into 'drive by'.

Re:Or...
It has been patched but this has happened already.

Re:Frist to get jailbroken...
Did you read who I was replying to. He said jailbreak has nothing to do with security. Jailbreak = rooting. If someone can root your phone remotely you have the security hole the size of a barn.
Apparently you can jailbreak up to 4.0.1 with this method.
http://www.jailbreakme.com/faq.htmlFrankly though my point was to illustrate the fact that jailbreaking is a security hazard if anyone besides the owner is doing it.
Go troll someone else fanboi. -
Re:No one deserves this more than AppleHe is using the phrasing that everyone else uses. They're exploits because the could be used by viruses/trojans too. http://www.tuaw.com/2007/10/29/confirmed-jailbreak-appsnapp-fixes-tiff-exploit-hole-in-iphone/
For everyone worried about malicious TIFF exploits, you might want to take a few seconds and re-read those jailbreak features listed on the AppSnapp page. See number 6? Not only does the team jailbreak your phone, add Installer.app and fix YouTube, but they also repair patch Safari's TIFF exploit hole. Yes, you read that right. These amazing hackers have done Apple a huge favor and fixed the very same exploit they used to jailbreak.
http://lifehacker.com/software/how-to/jailbreak-your-iphone-or-ipod-touch-with-one-click-316287.php
Jailbreaking the iPod touch/iPhone is now an utterly simple, one-click affair--which means if you've been waiting to jailbreak your iPod touch or iPhone (since the 1.1.1 firmware upgrade), the time is now. Just point your Safari browser to http://jailbreakme.com/ and click the Install AppSnapp link. It may sound scary, but the web site takes advantage of a mobile Safari exploit to install Installer.app (the gateway application for installing more applications) to your device. If you give it a try, here's what you can expect.

Re:Hate Apple but don't appreciate Android as much
Once reason for the virtual machine with Android may be that Google isn't going to be vetting apps as much as Apple. So apps will need some sort of sandbox environment for now.
All apps should always be sandboxed to the maximum extent feasible. Apple or anyone else isn't going to be able to find all bugs that could potentially lead to exploits. Safari on the iPhone has had several vulnerabilities, one of which was even used for "good" as a jailbreak method.

Firmware 1.1.1 is jailbroken
Firmware 1.1.1 has been jailbroken with an installer for some time now. Upgrade to Firmware 1.1.1 using the iTunes interface, and then browse using your iPhone's Safari to http://www.jailbreakme.com and click "Install" to put Installer.app back on your phone. I thought I should put the word out about this, since I never noticed a Slashdot story on it. Enjoy.

Re:Don't update the iPhone firmware!
Well they're wrong if they're telling you not to update the firmware, or to reset it to the first version. I'm using a phone in Australia with 1.1.1 firmware and it works with no problems. Have a look at jailbreakme.com.
I believe even the latest 1.1.2 firware has been hacked but I haven't looked at updating my phone.

On a related note...
Go to JailbreakMe.com on an iPhone or iPod touch and get your device totally owned. I know it's not specifically related to this discussion, but Windows isn't really either.
