Re:The joys of proportionally spaced fontsIt's a shame that the only proportionally spaced web font accessible to designers is courier, which sucks. Lucida Console is nicer but not available on all systems.
And Bitstream Vera Sans Mono is just lovely.
Anyone know of any web sites designed with proportionally spaced fonts?
Kinda (you mean "monospaced" or "fixed-width"). We found this by typing "wwwwwwwww" into Firebird's I'm-Feeling-Lucky-enabled address bar.

Incompatible Art
After many hours of searching, I stumbled on a few that I enjoyed: jodi.org
That piece of "Net.Art" doesn't work in Mozilla/Firebird. Insightful performance piece or lazy coding? It's "art", you decide!

jodi
The NYTimes article seems to be mostly based on the Jodi project. While I've been disappointed that the site itself has been mostly stagnant these last few years (http://map.jodi.org is mostly a collection of dead links now eg., although it has its charms), the way they are taking their work outside the internet, with such exhibitions all around the world is probably the main thing in this article.
Some people have already pointed out that HTML is not art, just a medium to create art, but the important thing here is that by taking their project outside the internet, the jodi team are showing to the world that HTML can create art indeed. -

Re:Maliciousnesssee www.jodi.org as an example of how JS can screw you over.
for some windows users, their system may lock up very tightly. so while there's no direct harm in this, its rude as hell and is just another example of how client-side auto-executable code is a bad, bad, BAD thing.
if you want web-based executables, they should properly execute on a server and NOT on the client.
