USA Corporatist gave China our best Rocket Tech...
China will get to the moon before we return, BFD
... done did ... so what.
The Q&A should be on who will be staying in space and on the moon ... I hope it is humanity ... not just US, EU, Russia, China ... Corporatist/Militarist.
December 1998: This is one of many facts about US/EU corporatist/goverment selling/transfering nuclear, rocket, and other technologies to China, Israel (lost Tybee Island nuke ... time-lines) .... Anyway about 1998: A secret Pentagon report concludes that Hughes Space and Communications, without proper authorization, gave China vital technological assistance crucial to the successful launchings of Chinese ballistic missiles and satellites. The report concluded that Hughes provided a "defense service" to China that violated U.S. rules against helping Beijing make better rockets and missiles. http://www.wisconsinproject.org/
In the NY TIMES of April 4, 1998, Jeff Gerth with Raymond Bonner exposed a manipulation wherein the US government and 2 major American arms companies transferred Ballistic Missile technology to China. As a Grand Jury was investigating whether 2 American companies (Loral Space & Communications and Hughes Electronics) gave China space expertise that significantly advanced Beijing's ballistic missile program, President Clinton approved of this transfer 2 months ago. Clinton undercut a Grand Jury investigation in order to protect what? or whom? Gerth also exposed the huge $2.5 million contribution made by Loral and Hughes to the Democratic Party since 1991. http://www.jonathanpollard.org/1998/040798b.htm
Folks; the above is about the prior Whitehouse residents and USA Corporatist. What is going on these days and for the start of this new millennium is way beyond anything in the last .... Oh, everyone is still looking for the lost Tybee Island nuke ... like it is really still missing in 20 foot deep water and river delta muck.
Anyway, I am damn happy Israel has nukes to protect US/EU ... the Brits helped some on the project. -
Re:No shit....No. I said the Military has no need of secret operations outside of a declared warzone.
But why shouldn't I have the military equivilent of a police radio monitor? I grew up in Virginia Beach next to the largest Navy base on the East Coast, why shouldn't I know when flight manuvers will be practiced over my neighborhood? or that will an amphibious assault training exercise at 4am on the beach at the base? or that there was and accident on one of the ships? or anything else going on in a peacetime military? If they are the might behind the Democratic will of the people, why can't the people know what they are doing? Unless of course they are doing something that the average citizen would find to be abhorrent, like:"Sophisticated military technology was illegally transferred from a major U.S. company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to South Africa and Chile and, from there, on to Iraq. The Iraqi-born designer of a chemical weapons plant in Libya set up shop in Florida, producing and then shipping to Iraq chemical weapon components. The CIA, the FBI and other federal agencies were made aware of the operation and did nothing to prevent it. "During the 1980s and into the '90s, senior officials of both the Reagan and Bush administrations encouraged the privatization of foreign policy, certainly towards Iran and Iraq. http://www.jonathanpollard.org/iraq.htm

Purely Political
Snort is an Open Source program, which means that it's source code is already available to the Chinese, Iranians and anyone else who wants it. I assume that Sourcefire's closed source products are based in one way or another on the technology in Snort, which makes it very difficult to understand the FBI and Pentagon's objections other than in the context of an anti-Israel political decision.
I geuss the FBI has the resources to hunt down and entrap Jewish political lobbyists but not to catch terrorists or say anything about a terrorist supporting Arab state taking over the country's ports. -
Re:Slashdot prone to xenophobia? Now, Israel, on the other hand, has a history of spying on the US, including having their spies caught on US soil.
Your vagueness is telling. About how many spies? Spying for what reasons, you don't say. Maybe because the U.S. maliciously withholds information that Israel could use to protect itself--information about WMD warfare capabilities of neighboring enemy states. The U.S. State Department is fundamentally Arabist and anti-Israel. It doesn't matter who the president is. The bureaucrats are entrenched, and they wield much power in international affairs.
Israel, while nominally a US ally, could potentially be a great threat.
It may seem to be only "nominal" because the U.S. cannot publicize its collaboration without fallout in the Arab world. Really, Israel is far more valuable an ally than even Britain. Former Sen. Jesse Helms said, "Israel is at least the equivalent of a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Middle East. Without Israel promoting its and America's common interests, we would be badly off indeed." And from here:
Israel has played a remarkable role in supporting America both militarily and politically. Some may have forgotten that Gen. George Keegan, Head of America's Air Force Intelligence once stated that Israel was worth 5 CIAs based upon the Intelligence Israel provided her ally and benefactor, the United States.
The Patriot missile used in the first Gulf War was based on Israeli technology. U.S. forces in the latest Gulf war were trained by Israelis for urban combat in Iraq. Security officials in New York City and other major U.S. cities visit anti-terror experts in Israel to learn how to protect our homeland. I could go on and on.When Saddam invaded Kuwait, it was Israel who provided on-ground Intelligence to the U.S. which proved invaluable. Gen. Dugan, who was in charge of operations during the First Gulf War, made the mistake of publicly thanking Israel for her assistance during an interview and was promptly fired. Israel raised an Air Umbrella for incoming U.S. Aircraft ferrying supplies, weapons and all the stuff that was needed for eventually attacking Saddam.
It was Israel who put teams in the Iraqi desert to pick up any American airmen shot down. (We all know what happened to those captured by Iraqis.) Israel proved her value as an Aircraft Carrier which protected American interests.
The offered world-class technology, top-notch intelligence, and superior anti-terror expertise, combined with a unique geographical importance in the war on terror, as well as shared ideals of freedom, democracy, and Western values make Israel a vital, natural, staunch ally.

Re:One of the problems of commercializing governme
Ok, so now out-sourcing is causing all the information leaks, as opposed to the previous administration, who outright sold our secrets to competetor nations.
As for how the money trails tie together, it's amazing what information Google will find for you. -
Re:What's to apologize for?I wonder how much of this is payback for the whole Wen Ho Lee thing at Los Alamos?
Wen Ho Lee was not a Chinese spy. (Actually, like many Taiwanese, he is perhaps unduly paranoid about the mainland.) He was basically a fall guy - the victim in the Clinton Administration's attempt to appease Republican critics. When all was said and done, it turned out all they could nail him with was the improper handling of information that is already in the public domain. See for example this page , this one or this one. The judge in the case used sentencing as an opportunity to give Lee an apologetic speech about the government's abuses in the case. He was sentenced to perform time already served (in other words, allowed to walk) as punishment for unauthorized possession of data, for which he plead guilty. The original charges contained 59 counts.
