Re:A whole book just for themes?
If you read the Drupal theme developer's guide you'd know that basic Drupal theming works exactly that way. A page template is simply an HTML page with tags inserted where you want specific components to appear.
The power of Drupal's approach to theming is that you can do as little, or as much, customization of detailed component formatting as you want.
It's a site development platform, not simple blogware that lets you play with look and feel. This is why the Onion, HamptonRoads.com, New York Observer and Ozzy Osborne's website can all run Drupal but not look or act like my weblog or JumpTV. -
Re:WoohooI know it's not exactly "allofTV.com" but I reckon Jump TV could be the start of something like that.
Yes, for the time being this is really only 'foreign' stations, but I wonder how long it takes for someone to start this for stations from western countries...

It's about time!
Bell's Sympatico service is honestly the worst. I switched to Rogers cable because I absolutely despised them. Not to mention the 10GB cap on transfers which Rogers doesn't have. I'm really hoping some of the local DSL providers will step up to the plate and force Bell to change their ways. This deregulation should force Bell to drop the 10GB limit, or at least up it to something more reasonable. A SuSE distro can be 7 CD's and there goes 1/2 of your transfer.. WTF? It should also give their customers a choice, because Cable is unbearably slow in some areas and technically isn't a viable option. Another strike for the good guys. Now if the CRTC could only deregulate Cable TV so I have a choice where my money goes and allow me to watch US Network TV over the web via services like jumpTV and then I'll be completely happy.

Re:yeah.. great..
[talking about tv and online addiction ONLINE, thats like holding an AA meeting at a BAR.]
No, it's like holding an AA meeting at an opium den/casino/crack house that sells cigarettes and has a liquor license.

JumpTV's awaits CBC decision
JumpTV (some good comments on an old
/. story) is currently awaiting a tarif decision by the Canadian Copyright Board. We probably won't hear any ruling on the matter until early 2002.If they do get a tarif, it will be interesting to see how long it takes:
- For JumpTV to be hacked
- For a nice infrastructure to redistribute the JumpTV signal
- For the 4 (#?) media juggernauts "ask" JumpTV to stop because they can't control packets' destination.
- For the CRTC finally crumble and start regulating the Internet.
...to hell in a handbasket, I say.br -
JumpTV linkThey have already started broadcasting several stations, which you can find here, but you need to have javascript on. And don't bother unless you're running windows, because everything is in Windows Media format.
Speaking of which, can someone please explain to me the reasons for the popularity of that format? I mean, not that I particularly like Real Media, but at least it's running on more than one freaking platform.
