Good. Hansmeier is a serious douche.
In addition to the copyright stuff, Hansmeier also had a penchant for suing businesses for ADA violations.

Re:Bricking or Tracking?
so government a key portion of civilization is no longer needed once our corporate overlords take their place? and these $800 com devices that have $160 worth of parts every 18 months is better than taxes how? oh and hey the phone company will drop the price $200 if only you agree to pay $15 a month more cause a $600 phone is more affordable than if you pay $280 over time. sure there are pay as you go wireless... but they are carried in some markets they don't have towers in. same for contract based phones they will sign you up happily even if their computer says they have no towers where you live. because once the ink is there its final you have to pay.
the point of the government is to protect the people from companies and it has sadly failed many times many ways. lung black from coal miners goes untreated despite federal laws where are the government acting about that? obama care has the potential of killing a $3 billion dollar a year of fraudulent medical payments but no those are 'easy' jobs for the wealthy to profit off the suffering of the poor, so we can't let the program actually work now can we?
bleh
technology doesn't kill the need for government especially when it comes from corporations. the free market you say? then clearly they buy low sell high. even if granny freezes to death because propane went up in price when her social security payment went down. and IT IS REAL http://kstp.com/article/stories/s3313632.shtml
the problem isn't that the government is too big, it is that it has not been doing it's job and is now more worried about how to keep the rich rich while allowing as many companies to be free of pesky regulations like preserving the quality of our water and air.

Re:Maggie Koerth-Baker is an idiot
Well depends on where in Minnesota she is. She might be living out in the norther suburbs of the twin cities and because one of the major lakes there is shrinking thus she might think that all the lakes are drying up. Here in Minnesota we have plenty of water even in the drier areas in the south western part of the state where still have lots of smaller lakes, streams, sloughs, and swamps.

Re:Are you rich? Is your dad a senator?
Even if you have enough money to fight them it doesn't end well. As much of an embarrassment as Governor Ventura was at least he tried but hasn't been successful.

Re:You're looking at it wrong.
If it were that easy, we wouldn't be having this discussion. See http://kstp.com/news/stories/S1429853.shtml?cat=1
Rhonda Smith's story of six miles of interstate terror, as her Lexus suddenly zoomed to 100 miles per hour, will set the mood Tuesday for the first congressional hearing on Toyota's acceleration problems.
The Sevierville, Tenn., woman shifted to neutral. She tried to throw the car into reverse. She hit the emergency brake. Nothing. Then, her Toyota-made car miraculously slowed down before she crashed.

So peaceful!!!
According to KSTP: "The sheriff's office said it confiscated weapons on Saturday including a machete, hatchet and several throwing knives, empty glass bottles, rags and flammable liquids, homemade devices used to disable buses, metal pipes, axes, bolt cutters, sledge hammers, empty plastic buckets made into shields, an Army helmet, and large amounts of urine." http://kstp.com/article/stories/S561752.shtml?cat=1

Re:Yeah, right.
Also, living in MN, I had the benefit of seeing extensive coverage on the nightly news. You may feel differently after seeing some of the pictures they showed us on tv.

One of the best parts is that, in their defense, one of the students said some of the pictures were over 4 years old! So if they're seniors that would be pix of them drinking as freshman. -
simulated weapons of mass destruction
heres an example ov people suspected ov a crime and being arested for it
"MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Six friends spruced up in fake blood and tattered clothing were arrested in downtown Minneapolis on suspicion of toting "simulated weapons of mass destruction."
Police said the group were allegedly carrying bags with wires sticking out, making it look like a bomb, while meandering and dancing to music as part of a "zombie dance party" Saturday night."

Re:Dupe "Article"Actually, they all seem to be quoting from this news article. There is alaso a video of the fire. (Why do people submit forum posts referring to blogs recapping usenet posts quoting from an article, instead of just going back to the original link?)
The most important question, "HOW LONG WAS THE DELAY?" is not answered anywhere I can see.

Something doesn't seem to fitLooks like this person needed someone to blame. First off, this was not a five alarm fire. Thoes are just slightly bigger, usually apartment building or commerical wherehouses. More then one firetruck will arive at a five alarm fire, hense the name. One other kinda fishy thing is
"by the time fire crews arrived, the fire had become a five-alarm blaze. The house was a total loss."
which conficts with Veltkamps own statment in the local media:"When I was ordered out of the building, I didn't want to comply with that," Veltkamp said. Fire crews convinced him to leave, but he later re-entered the home - followed by police. "They chased me in, saying they were going to taze me if I didn't come out," Veltkamp said. He then ran from police through the house, and escaped out of the basement.
It probably didn't help that the firecrews had to shoot water over trees at this house either video http://kstp.dayport.com/viewer/viewerpage.php?Art_ ID=165697&NoAds=true local report http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S14441.html?ca t=1 -
Re:Why VoIP?
Was this his only phone?
Here's the local TV station's report. They don't say so, but I assume that his only phone service was VOIP. As for running next door, I assume he figured it would be quicker to report if he played the percentages and didn't hang up to try again. According to the report, he was arrested for repeatedly reentering the house to save his computers.Any reason he didn't have access to another phone?
Traditionally you exit your burning house ASAP and call from a house next door...

we had a house burn down here over VoIP E911
in case the link gets blasted at the host, synopsis is that a chanhassen MN guy had Vonage, and they put his 911 call on hold for two minutes. there are two issues... one, customer has to populate the 911 data instead of the carrier... and two, the IP outfits have their own intercept desk that gets the call instead of the emergency provider.
I will never give up my wired landline with CO power.

Re:Well, since I can't get to the article...1. 'War of Choice' + dollar amount = wasted money. You ignore the important part.
2. I'll give you the Humvees, but there is certainly discretionary funds for body armor. See 1 and 9.
3. The people that are IN Iraq are the ones most stridently saying they are 'understaffed'. Wouldn't they know by now?
4,5.I read it. I think it is a well written account of one guy's experience, but kind of reinforces the whole 'why are we there' issue.
6. I can't speak to the 'every ship' statement, as I have never before seen a such a banner on a ship, nor heard of the practice . Not that I've looked at hundreds of ship pictues or anything. Considering what a major photo-op that whole thing was, I'm going to say that it was planned just like every other thing that happened that day.
7. I can't dispute the casual relations, nor find a compelling source to confirm this. I guess I'm still waiting for us to go after the Saudis, as the actual people who bit it in the WTC attack were Saudi. Osama is Saudi. Where's Encyclopedia Brown when you need him? Perhaps he can find out what happened to the investigation into the people who yanked out tons of $$$ out of the stock market in the days before 9/11?
8. I read it, and two other articles and it seems that it is still up in the air.
9. I don't get it either. They got the $$$, why not spend it? What are they waiting for? Iran?
10. Well, there's this, which came out today...I obviously have no access to the Sat images, so am unable to check for myself.Yes, it goes on and on. And on
1, 2, 3. They're terrorists. That's what they do, I guess.
Frankly, I know that terrorists et al are not caused by the policies of GW. However, It would be pretty hard to argue that he hasn't exacerbated conditions that were preexisting, and perhaps caused in no small measure by his father.
I hope you appreciate the fact I've actually responded to your post, even though you may argue that I didn't answer your concerns. You did manage to suck the life out of me, though, so this round goes to you, sir. Excellent work! -
Re:No, check your facts bud...
I know you're desperate to justify Bush's continued existence, so you probably don't care about evidence, but here's some pictures anyway. Knock yourself out.

what was that about the missing explosives?
Might want to take a peek here and see how it fits in with what you say.

Re:Well, since I can't get to the article...Actually, I haven't even read the link. Why? It's pointless. Much like my reworking of an old mac troll. Pointless.
I have karma to burn as well. And I want to hear the truth. So tell me: What's the truth?
I could go on for hours, but these will do for now. What is it about Bush that has you pitching a tent?
