Re:Another judge legislating from the bench
Know what I did? I went trying to find a case which matches what you described...
Dude admits to undercover cop that selling his home made gun is not legal, and even tells cop how to claim to police that the cop made it himself. That's some nice mens rea for you right there:
https://www.fredericknewspost....Building SBRs & supressors without first aquiring tax stamps is a big no no: http://gunsandrifles.com/2018/...
Dude sells multiple undercover agents, sure doesn't sound like soly building them for personal use, then sometime later opting to sell them: https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2...
Manufacturing machineguns at home is generally illegal, especially when the person involved doesn't have the right FFL: https://www.usatoday.com/story...
Not US based, but advertizing ones manufacturered guns for sale, not smart: https://www.illawarramercury.c...
From the UK, making bullets at home and supplying them and illegal firearms to gangs isn't exactly a way to appear innocent: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new...
The one case which I do recall, is this one: https://arstechnica.com/tech-p...
In many jurisdictions, rolled tobacco is taxed at a different rate as loose tobacco, similarrly, ground cofee when compared to whole beans. To skirt these taxes, some places will sell you the raw products, let you put it into a machine and out comes your less taxed result.
It's a clever and legal loophole, until the politicans close it: https://lacrossetribune.com/ne...
This last case is similar, in that it's in a gray area. Technically it's the 'buyer' who is actually manufacturing the firearm, however it seems pretty clear what the guy's game was, and depending on the degree of assistance he provided (setup for instance), he could be said to be part of the manufacturing process. Of course, he plead guilty (https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/04/dr-death-pleads-guilty-to-making-selling-ar-15-rifle-components/) and reading some of how he was doing it, it's pretty clear he had little case.
Care to cite a single case which matches the description you made of a jury not believing them, that they built something for personal use and then later transferred it?

Re:nonviolent drug offenders
where are the bodies?
You know, there's a thing called Google. You can search for things like this. It's not hard, snowflake.
http://www.wave3.com/story/344...
I could go on and on with these links. Kids in the back where the two adults in the front OD and are now dead, while driving a car in traffic. And so on and so on. Happens a lot lately.Raped? Here you go. Just google these. There are plenty of examples if you look.
http://lacrossetribune.com/jac...I remember incident after incident in the early 1970s. Stupid kids doing drugs and dying. They'd also steal to support their habit because they can't hold a job.
So it's not a form of slavery to outlaw these. It's a form of slavery if you're a user. Not talking about MJ. Heroin, that's bad shit. I'm seeing it all over again as dumb kids use it and they're hooked. Now their stealing, all kinds of illegal activities, then end up dead just like they did 50 years ago. That's why it's illegal.
Politicians would love to find a way to not put drug offenders in jail. Come up with something and let them know. It would be an easy fix to simply shoot heroin addicts. They're going to end up dead anyway. I proposed to my State Senator to set aside a house where addicts could go and just supply them all the heroin they want. It won't be long after all. It'll save society from being robbed, hit by them driving cars, etc. He didn't have the guts to introduce it. I guess more people have to die first.

Re:"environmentally benign"? WHY NOT?
Let's take the greenhouse issue with coal power plants in the US. Nuclear removes the atmospheric and climate issues, and replaces them with a much smaller scale radioactivity issue for which we already have numerous viable reprocessing protocols, but no.. it still pollutes a little! omg we must stifle this!
Let's contrast it with windmills. The environmentalist crowd harps about windmills killing birds so we can't have windmills. Trempealeau County in Wisconsin recently banned all windmills more than 150 feet high within a mile of any home because the blades produce pulsating noise and shadows that may be harmful to children!

Re:People don't learn from historyPersonally, I would not vote for a Thuggee or Satanist.
Which exactly proves my point. You are basing your decision on a person's religious views, not on what they have actually done. What if that Satanist ran a food bank, gave money to homeless institutions and rescued lost kittens but now wants to run for mayor or governor? Would you still not vote for that person specifically because of their religious views or would you base your decision on what they do?without someone telling us what we can and cannot consider when deciding how to vote.
Yet, that is exactly what the christian right wants to have happen. Read on for the full spin-job. They want people of the cloth to be able to tell their people who to vote for based on the candidates supposed religious leanings.
There is a very logical reason not to have folks of the cloth getting involved in politics and it harkens back to the head of the British Empire also being head of the Church of England. In fact, we already have cases where catholic priests are withholding communion from people because of their political leanings or where they stand on certain issues. Article 1, article 2, and article 3 with the third one being an interesting take of a person beholden to a foreign government (i.e. The Vatican) telling American citizens that unless they follow the teachings of the foreign government, the citizen will be denied an act of their chosen faith.
Cases like this are precisely why there is a separation of Church and State in this country.

Windmills are dangerous!even when providers try to build "green" sources they are fought in courts by one group or another
This reminds me of Trempealeau county in Wisconsin where they have all but outlawed windmills. Trempealeau county is a rural community with lots of available wind. But due to someone's lobbying efforts the county board has decided windmills are too loud and cast dangerous shadows! In particular the lobbyist has convinced the board that the rhythmic nature of the shadows and sound will cause health effects in children. So now windmills constructed in Trempealeau county must be at least one mile from the nearest house. You can not draw a circle two miles in diameter in Trempealeau county without overlapping a house.

Noah is everywhere!
No, there was no flood that wiped out ALL LIFE on Earth except what was in Noah's boat (though there may have been a big flood).
Probably more than one. Most cultures have a Noah's Ark myth. My own favorite theory is that early urban centers tended to get founded on flood plains (that's where the best farming land is) and then destroyed by the next century flood. This still happens, but nowadays you have a surrounding civilization to help clean things up. Five thousand years ago, your flood plain urband center was your civilization, and its destruction was a permanent, traumatic event, blamed on divine retribution for the misdeads of the evil city dwellers.
