Confused...
well anyway here's a site that does a comparison by putting google and yahoo in frames and doing identical queries. http://www.googleguy.de/google-yahoo/ But I thought yahoo also uses Google's results in their thing. Althought that might have changed. I remember a couple of years back Yahoo had a little thing on their search results that said powered by google. So of course yahoo will have more than google since they are using Google's results along with their own. http://www.langreiter.com/exec/yahoo-vs-google.ht
m this site also does comparisons, but it shows a nice little graphical thing. I think it shows how google and yahoo results overlap. Oh and on a side note, I'm new here and I was wondering whether the term "slashdotted" means that a site was overwhelmed with traffice from slashdot. -
Re:My own - albeit anecdotal - experience...
Just FYI, here is a nice comparison of your search query between the two engines.

yahoo! vs. google visual comparison
this post reminded me of a neat little script that creates a visual comparison of Yahoo! vs. Google search results (for the first 100 results).

Interesting Search Info Vis
While this currently does Yahoo and google, it would be neat if it includes MSn at some point.
It's a neat way of seeing how the two engine's compare.

Try this one: I Save RXHere are the results.
Just so that everyone knows, on google Results 1,2, and 4 are relevant. (I do not know if any more are relevant, I did not hit page down.) I Save RX is a controversial program created by the state of IL that allows certain people to fill prescriptions from Canadian pharmacies. It is truly depressing that the relevant sites run by the state of IL do not show-up anywhere within the first 100 results from yahoo! Instead yahoo is filled with results from spammy questionable sites selling drugs online.
That was a great comparison tool Zordok, thanks for the link!

Graphical comparision of search results
Here's what "XFree86" shows for two more search engines. Really is interesting graphical results.

Visualize Yahoo vs. Google
Christian Langreiter has written an interesting tool that visually compares the results of a Yahoo vs. Google search. Will be really interesting to watch the deviation change as Yahoo skews their ranks for $$... not that Google hasn't been skewed by A-List bloggers for years.

Re:And a User Friendly game to go along!
Chris Langreiter has a cute toy to compare Yahoo vs. Google results.
Touch the dots !

Re:Innovation
But remember that when Microsoft came up with Windows, it was actually a very innovative thing too - a Mac-like interface for you DOS machines!
Of course Windows 1.0 was not the first attempt to do this. Don't forget such wonders as IBM's TopView, Quarterdeck's Desq, Digital Research's GEM and a number of others. For a while in the early/mid 1980's there was a swirl of innovation and copying (not to mention a lawsuit or two) as people tried to bring the Xerox-invented GUI to desktop computers. -
A couple of alternativesThere are a bunch of java graphing tools around if you don't mind hacking them a bit. Some are more useful than others, of course.
One interesting one is TouchGraph, best known for the google set vista.
Plumb Design also has the Visual Thesaurus, which is cool looking even if it's not really practical.

VanillaOne of the most promising packages of this sort is
Vanilla, a tool designed to inhabit the space between weblog and wiki.
It's written in REBOL (thereby very portable)and has a number of powerful features, including visualization via TouchGraph (click on the little graph icon on a page at langreiter above.
I haven't seen new code in a while, but the mailing list is active and as it stands the system works great.
