Re:forget ink cartridges
Umm, Laser printers use Toner cartridges. There are companies that refill these. Heck, there are monks that sell these.

Can't wait to see them bust these guys

Re:Disposable printers - the solution? On my Epson, there's a spongy spot where it goes to waste ink, er, I mean, clean the cartridge. Anyways, I let mine sit for almost a year after I used up all the ink first since I really don't do too much printing to begin with. After I finally got around to getting new ink, I decided to fire it up, put in the cartridges, and then before I let it purge, I take that spongy spot inside, (which was dried up solid) and soaked it with rubbing alcohol. Then I let the print head soak on that and purge itself a few times. Works great now. That's what I would do first before I yank out the print head, especially when you're off warranty anyway. Works for me on an Epson Stylus C62, but YMMV. Some people might not like them, but IMO, anything is better than a goddamned cheap assed Lexmark. I just figured that if the rubbing alcohol can remove the dried up ink stains on the damn thing when nothing else will, then it couldn't hurt to try it out with the spongy thing soaked and sitting on the print head and see what happens.
I'd like to thank whomever that left that link here a while back to http://lasermonks.com/ as it saved me big $$$.

Re:the long view
"How will the Monks make money then?! Answer me that, and I'll entertain your flights of fancy. But first, how, oh how, will the Monks make money?!?"
They can sell ink for the printing presses!

Re:printing ripoff
I recommend the canon multipass series... I have a MP730, its a combo printer/scanner (w/ feeder)/fax/copier, very nice machine. A bit expensive ($300) but IMHO well worth it. The Canon ink tanks are clear so you can see the ink inside them, and there are no chips on them. The printer measures the ink level by shining a light through the tank. They are quite easy to refill, and LaserMonks has replacement tanks for IIRC about $5 each. Replacement official tanks are about $7 each. Four colors, CMYK.

Lasermonks: Low Ink Prices
If you don't have a problem with low prices on ink cartridges while supporting a group of Catholic monks in Wisconsin, go here the next time you need to buy an ink cartridge. I've ordered a couple of times from them and haven't had any problems with the ordering process or with their products. With them, I get my Epson Stylus C60 cartridges for about 1/4-1/3 the price of the Epson OEM cartridges at local stores.
They also seem to think very highly of /., because they carry a /. banner at the bottom of their home page referring back to a thread about them here earlier this year (in which I had originally heard about them). -

Re:A good ruling
If Fallwell.com was merely an attempt to capitalize on spelling errors, then this is not different than for me to register Mircosoft as a platform for me to promote non-Microsoft software.
So if I have a business at 12100 Main St. and have been in business for years so that people know the place very well, then does that give me the right to evict businesses from 12110 Main St. because they criticize my business? The web address is just that. Fallwell.com is next door to Falwell.com but that doesn't give some judge the right to assume that everyone typing Fallwell.com into their browser actually meant to type Falwell.com.The deciding factor in this case was that the Fallwell.com website clearly identified that they had nothing to do with Falwell ministries. Even google's summary stated this and the disclaimer leads to Falwell.com in case you actually got lost and were searching around for your Reagan Tribute video. That's more than can be said for lazermonks which blatantly mooches business from the actual lasermonks
I thought people learned this lesson years ago with whitehouse.com, whitehouse.org, and whitehouse.gov.

Methanol Monks, deliver me from Toshiba
Toshiba expects to make ten times as much on the "fuel cartridges" as they do on the fuel cells.
Perhaps we can suggest to the Laser Monks that they branch out into fuel cell cartridge refilling.

Re:Preparing for the GNU/world?
Seems some monks are back atwork.

Interesting
So... I just checked an ink vendor and the lexmark cartridges they had (same model numbers from the story) were 2x as expensive as the Xerox ones. Nice to know that you're not locked in to the vendor, but beyond that - I think I'd find the Xerox cartridge a better buy. (The vendor was Laser Monks)

Re:Drug Dome?
I doubt that the LaserMonks will be selling SmellJet refills for that one!

Re:Spamming
> Their character is rarely that of a saint.
Maybe not, but I've seen spam from monks selling laser toner.
Seriously, someone should tell the monks that spamming is not good. -
competition is good for the consumer...For anyone wanting cheap ink cartridges here's a weird place you can check out, called lasermonks.
More on topic, if this bill get's signed it'll be interesting to see if similar legislation is passed in other states.

Re:Price of bottling
Buy from the monks. Their prices are proof that the regular sellers are making a killing.
