As much as I'd like to find a treatment/vaccine for something as nasty as Ebola, I'm not so sure tinkering around with its genetic code like this is such a good idea. Like others, I can't help but think about the paraphrased quote from Jurassic Park, "Life will find a way"; if that ever happens and that modified Ebola mutates and gets out of isolation, we are in a world of shit.
Just like cockroaches scattering when the light's turned on, the RIAA is trying to scuttle this motion for discovery because they know that their ass will be grass...
PIMF...
Also I'd think Alcoa was able to get an early.com name not for defense work with ARPA, but as part of the research community (working with universities to develop new alloys, etc.), which would lead back to any work with ARPA.
Dear Mark,
Please STFU and go back to counting your money, so we don't have to put up with your ignorant, biased blathering about your perceived state of the Internet.
If you can't at least shut your piehole when you're over your head, then you can just FOAD.
Sincerly,

it's all about control and flexing their legal muscles to intimidate the rest of the public into towing the line. The MPAA is using this to gather more ammo in order to sue the people who are old enough to know what P2P is, who tend to use P2P apps to get music/movies/etc. on a regular basis, and who tend to have limited resources to fight back in court.
Gee, you give a bunch of kids expensive laptops for cheap/free or mandate that parents buy them for their kids, then act shocked when they don't just use them for straight-up school work, but some students also misuse and abuse them!
Good on ya, Mr. Schirra...may you have the best of luck on your final mission, scouting out the frontiers of the afterlife for those coming after you. We know you will carry it out with the same doggedness and attention to detail that marked your missions in this life.
May you, Grissom, White, and Chaffee have a grand time catching up on the 'good old days'!
You know, I hope you never run a business of your own, because you wouldn't (or shouldn't) be in business very long with that "holier-than-thou" attitude of yours. Now that I've attempted to be civil, I have two things to say to you: STFU and STFD.
If you don't have a problem with low prices on ink cartridges while supporting a group of Catholic monks in Wisconsin, go here the next time you need to buy an ink cartridge. I've ordered a couple of times from them and haven't had any problems with the ordering process or with their products. With them, I get my Epson Stylus C60 cartridges for about 1/4-1/3 the price of the Epson OEM cartridges at local stores.
They also seem to think very highly of/., because they carry a/. banner at the bottom of their home page referring back to a thread about them here earlier this year (in which I had originally heard about them).

Who Needs Radio?

I think Clear Channel will do just fine with the growth of satellite radio, as they hold a stake in XM
To answer those who think CC has a monopoly on radio staions in America...they only own about 10-15% (IIRC) of all AM/FM stations in the country, but most of them are in the biggest markets. They are probably the biggest player, but they are quite a few others, as evident by the list below that I excerpted from the Radio Ink website.
Publicly Held Radio Companies:
Beasley Broadcasting
Cumulus Media
Cox Radio
Emmis Communications
Entercom Communications
Entravision
Hispanic Broadcasting
Infinity Broadcasting
Radio One
Regent Communications
Saga Communications
Salem Communications
Spanish Broadcasting System
Viacom
Westwood One
Privately Held Radio Companies:
Citadel Communications
Next Media Group
Triad Broadcasting
These are just the bigger companies; there are many regional companies and independents still out there.

My guess that Alcoa was able to get an early .com name because of defense work (metals for military planes, ships, etc.).

Brillant....too bad I don't have any mod points to give. Sad thing is, I understood every word you said ;)
