Good idea, But....
From the: Make-your-neighbor-child-giddy dept.
Good idea if your parts are broken. However, if they're not, consider donating or selling them to someone who wants them. There are TONS of computer collectors out there that would LOVE to take computers off your hands for the cost of shipping, provided they work. The older, the better. There's several Computer Shelters [1] [2] and other "low end" computer sites [3] that have hobbyists just searching for parts and machines. There are listservs, Vintage Computer Organizations and, of course, the effervescent Obsolete Computer Museum site.
If nothing else, please forward messages of machines available for pickup or shipping to: computershelter@computershelter.org and I'll be happy to pass them on to hobbyists who would love to take them off your hands. Some of use the computers for our collections and to learn about older technologies, some of us clean them up and give them to children and impovershed families in our area to give them a piece of technology.
If it's broken, dispose of properly. But if it isn't, please donate and keep them in use! -
Re:Finally!
Probably not unless you have upgraded the graphics card in it, Ms. Onymous... although I suppose you could start a rumor that requires a G5.

Re:why has no-one mentioned this(it seems)The fires were due to a new "LithIon" battery desing that Apple was experimenting with. Once the problem surfaced, they switched to ordinary NiMH's, and things were back to normal. The whole sorry history of it is available at LowEndMac, who awarded it the dreaded "Road Apple" prize.
If I had one of these dogs, I would take the buyback deal for sure. 5300 sucks; Pismo rocks. Little other analysis needed.

Re:Best LEM story.I kind of liked the one about the slightly smaller Cinema Display, called the CineMini.
Heh heh. It includes talk of putting them into a 19" wide version of the iBook.

Gee, What a novel idea...
Back in 1992, I was able to do this with an Apple Quadra 840av (Badass 68k!) that had a DSP based AV system. It was just click "File -> Print" from the built-in Video Player and I could print anything on the old boob-tube. I don't really see all the fuss that in the year 2000 that you can print what you see on TV. I bet you could pick up a Quadra 840av and a used HP Color InkJet cheaper than the new HP TV printer on eBay. Or you could also try to bid on a Mac TV which might be concidered the first TV that could print. But I rarely see those around and they were not the brightest color in Apple's rainbow at the time.
For as much as some here think Apple sux, they have in the past and still do today, make some of the coolest hardware -- at a cost.

MOSR submits these stories...MOSR probably submits all these wacky stories so that they get Slashdotted and their hits go up. This is a MacOSrumors spoof site, it's quite funny. Take a look at the slide show to see the mastermind behind the BLM Media empire.
Also, I remember there used to be some kind of partnership between BLM and Slashdot, several years ago. Can anybody provide more info? What was lowly Ryan Meader's role in the creation of Slashdot? This is going back at least 2 years.
The only proof I can find (other than my memory of a mention of BLM on Slashdot a couple of years ago) is this page, which has a capture of a MOSR page from December, 1998. Look down at the bottom, it says "For those who don't follow the development of Linux (for those interested, Slashdot is an excellent place for all manner of geek news -- not that we're exactly totally unbiased, as Slashdot is a BLM partner)".
Anybody know anything about this? Maybe this has something to do with the recent stories from MOSR being posted lately... maybe Rob feels bad for Meader, whose site does nowhere near this much traffic. But then again... (funny).
