The Pagan Bible
From the description of "The Devourer," it sounds like Cixin could relate to "The Pagan Bible" by Melvin Gorham and "The Social Conquest of Earth" by E. O. Wilson.
Both describe civilization as a eusocial superorganism -- with Gorham being more pessimistic than Wilson as to the potential for containing its ecological conquest of sexual species.

And Now To Rewire the Brain For Gay Sex!
Oh wait, that can't happen because men who go to prison and start engaging in homosexual activity are clearly doing so because they were simply sexually repressed homosexuals before being liberated by prison life.

Re:low crime - think again
Well, you can start off by looking through the following Israeli documentary that is in four parts:
Here's a report of some of the riots that happened in Sweden last summer:
Fifth night of youth rioting rocks Stockholm
It has been reported the following facts:
"Islam in Europe. In Spain: Muslims make up 70% of the prison population, but are only 2.3% of the country France - 66% of the prisons, but only 7.5% of the country Switzerland - 58% of the prisons, but only 5.7% country Norway - 30% of the prisons, but only 3% country Netherlands - 26% of the prisons, but only 5.5% country Belgium - 20% of the prison, but only 6% country Italy - 18% of the prisons, but only 2.6% country UK - 12.6% of the prisons, but only 4.6% country. "The rape statistics in Sweden is the second highest in the world and a number of cases involving these rapes have drawn quite a bit of attention:

Muslim rape wave Sweden
Murder VasterasI just found these doing a random googling. There are a lot more cases but I think this is enough to get the point through. There are a number of cases were rapists didn't get any punishment from court among other violence related verdicts. A lot of people say that the judges behave that way out of fear of being accused with
... racism. I'd like to encourage someone else to find sources for this. Only basic google skills are required. -

Re:A reasonable stance
Interesting guess. What makes you think so?
(I'm the original AC)
Because of posts like this one or this one. There are others in your history as well that demonstrate your ideological bent. You are, however, a prolific poster and I'm going from memory for other examples instead of citing examples by searching through the entirety of your posts.
Bob Altemeyer's book(s) are rife with logical fallacies, speculation, lack of citation, ignorance and just plain hatred for different viewpoints. Here is a counterpoint to his writing.
I don't believe that you will come to his writing with any sort of objectivity, thus my original sarcastic comment about it [not] challenging your world-view.

mind-controlling parasites nothing new
I've ran into two better examples of parasite-inducing mind-control / suicide...
1) A parasite that needs to get to water for its adult stage, so just before it climbs out of its host (somewhat aliens-style) it influences it to dive into water:
2) a snail driven to suicidal behavior to attract the next vector, a bird, to continue its life cycle:

Recalculate for the crisisBetter recalculate the trade-offs for the current economic crisis:
TFA says the average programmer with my experience level should be getting a salary of around $50/hour but you'll see I've recenetly advertised myself at $8/hour.
How many hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost in Silicon Valley alone recently?
The crisis has gutted demand for hardware as well, but things are changing so fast, yesterday's calculations are very likely very wrong. Tomorrow, hyperinflation could hit the US making hardware go through the roof due to the exchange rate.

Deep Libertarianism: Human EcologySeasteads are a great way to protect human rights because they protect the most fundamental human right, the one from which all others are derived: The right to vote with your feet.
If all you do is ensure that anyone can leave any time they want, then you have only one remaining ingredient to support this most fundamental human right:
Somewhere to go.
With the current, very limited, number of territories world-wide, the choices available to refugees is limited not only by the number of territories that would welcome them, but by the absolute number of territories.
Increase the baseline number of territories and freedom reigns.
The problem with current conceptions of "human rights" is they are enumerated in some sort of unstructured laundry list which results in the entire edifice crumbling under stress. Its tragic because the more you "feel" various things are "rights" -- the more "rights" you put on your wishful-thinking-list, the more "righteous" you sound to the intellectually handicapped. This creates a terrible situation for humanity -- where facades of "human rights" displace the need for territory -- the need for carrying capacity -- that forms the real foundation of life hence humanity hence their rights.
I've written up some thoughts on the nuances of a more rationally architected system supporting human rights in Deep Libertarianism: Human Ecology that allows jurisdictions to become as "tyrannical" as they want over their territory, so long as they let people leave at will and support the creation of carrying capacity for the formation of volulntary association.
Seasteading is an important potential in this direction.
Unfortunately, Google's Patri Friedman, while far better than most, is indulging in more of the sloppy thinking that endangers human rights when he says things like "You can change your government without having to leave your house" or implies the assumption that seasteading jurisdictions will not exclude immigrants at their whim. We live in a physical universe with ecologies that operate in space. Attempting to deny spatial structure because you find it inconvenient or even "oppressive" is simply fantasy.

Residual, Inter-deme Transport RequirementsThe ML866, in using dynamic lift, is taking one step toward the aeronautic transportation system that could displace all current transporation needs in the event that the evolution of virulence, driven by horizontal transmission in an age of mass migration, forces the collapse of civilization (city-based population structure).
See Residual, Inter-deme Transport Requirements:
A primary function of cities is transport of food.
Once food production and consumption is localized, the need for energy is radically reduced to that required to fill temporary localized shortages due to food production short-falls.
The residual function of cities is to provide routing and consolidation of food transport for famine relief.
Cities provide 2 primary functions in transport:
1. Minimization of road construction by providing central hubs.
2. Load consolidation for optimal use of fixed-capacity vehicles.
Transport systems minimizing these two functions minimize the residual transportation need for cities.
Aerospace transport renders road construction moot, hence is quite desirable. Shipping via ocean has this benefit to a lesser extent. Land transport should be limited to intra-deme if at all possible.
Variable sized transport vehicles minimizes load consolidation. Vehicle technologies that are relatively insensitive to scale are therefore immensely valuable.
Since human labor is costly and one of the primary failures of civilizations is due to transport of pathogens along trade-routes and humans are the primary vectors of human pathogens, autonomous and/or remote control transport technologies are immensely valuable.
The ideal primary mode of inter-deme agricultural transport is therefore probably:
1. Aeronautic.
2. Scalable.
3. Autonomous.
A Possible Residual Transporter
There is at least one type of transporter than can fulfill the requirements for residual, inter-deme transportation based on autonomous balloon technology.
The large variations in wind direction and speed with altitude, coupled with high speed electronic communication, computation, global positioning and weather analysis creates an opportunity for autonomous hydrogen balloons that fulfill the requirements to empty the cities of transportation hub infrastructure.
The long duration balloon experiment is very similar in some ways to a system designed to fulfill the requirements of emptying the cities.
With vertical sections of the "pumpkin" alternating between aluminized and clear, the sections could act as a series of horizontally polarized high-gain antennae for mesh communication as well as a reflector for a strobe. The vertical axis would have a Dyneema draw string that could tighten down the "pumpkin" shape into a toroidal shape to decrease volume and thereby decrease buoyancy, reversibly. Another potential created by this is to have the rib strings extend together into a composite draw-string in the center with the component strings, going down the sides of the sections, differentially tightened to create an asymmetry in the toroid so that during descent or ascent the balloon could experience some horizontal thrust, somewhat like a parachute. This might be useful during the terminal phase of the flight to tether it precisely (these would be unlikely to land--merely be under control of a ground mooring).
The top of the envelope would most likely have solar cells coated inside of the Mylar. Polymer solar cells are ideal.
Reversible hydrogen fuel cells would provide electrical power as well as converting water and excess power into hydrogen when needed. This aspect of the design is the most problematic at first since the number of catalysts useful for reversible fuel cells are relatively rare and will require some fraction of the transporters to be used on an ongoing basis to

Dead white males
Do we have to put up with yet another mythologizing of dead white males? Thank God for his Chosen Americans or we might not have had the Immigration and Nationalities Act of 1965 to terminate that hideously white nation.

Too late for nonterrestrial resources utilization?Interestingly it was Gerard O'Neill who argued in the 1970's for solar power satellites constructed from lunar material and, as part of that argument predicted the industrialization of China would lead to increased CO2 emissions from coal burning that would mandate radical restructuring of global energy technology. It may be too late now to pursue nonterrestrial material SPS since the baby boomer generation, raised and educated to pioneer space from childhood, was denied that opportunity by --- well that is the question of the millennium if not the epoch isn't it? There are almost as many answers to that question as there are religions.
The proximate cause was that despite there being an obvious direction in place subsequent to the space race (remember the Apollo program?) that could have been followed through to space industrialization -- the launch service industry did not enjoy the same protection from government competition that the satellite industry enjoyed:
* (c) Private enterprise; access; competition
In order to facilitate this development and to provide for the widest possible participation by private enterprise, United States participation in the global system shall be in the form of a private corporation, subject to appropriate governmental regulation. It is the intent of Congress that all authorized users shall have nondiscriminatory access to the system; that maximum competition be maintained in the provision of equipment and services utilized by the system; that the corporation created under this chapter be so organized and operated as to maintain and strengthen competition in the provision of communications services to the public; and that the activities of the corporation created under this chapter and of the persons or companies participating in the ownership of the corporation shall be consistent with the Federal antitrust laws.
It wasn't until 1990, when a coalition of grassroots groups across the country lobbied hard for 3 years, that similar legislation got passed for launch services.
The fact that Malthusian paradigm didn't precisely follow the Club of Rome's "Limits to Growth" model doesn't change the reality of the Malthusian paradigm given a fundamentally limited biosphere undergoing its largest extinction event in 60 million years. The Club of Rome merely added academic fashion to the urgency of the Malthusian situation still facing the biosphere. The 1970s was the right time to start the drive for space industrialization based on a private launch service industry. It didn't happen, the pioneering culture that founded the US is being replaced by government policy with less pioneering cultures and now we're all facing some increasingly obvious difficulties -- not just pioneer American stock -- and not just humans.
The cost of getting silicon into space from the lunar surface would be orders of magnitude less than launching from earth due not only to the much shallower gravity well but also due to the absence of atmosphere.
No beanstalk needed.
At worst a Dyneema Rotovator might be needed but probably not even that.
First, the bulk of the materials are manufactured in space from lunar raw material transported to orbital facilities so you don't need to land those facilities on the lunar surface, and you don't have to worry about g-loading the raw materials you are sending to the orbital facilities.
Second, you don't manufacture everything in space -- only bulky materials like solar cells, reflectors, structural members and perhaps klystrons. Only residual materials (raw and manufactured) are of terrestria

Seeking Chinese Nationalist For Majority RadioSeeking Chinese Nationalist For Majority Radio Guest Spot
The Nanjing Anti-African riots leading to Tiananmen Square may, themselves, have been a precursor to today's massacre at Virginia Tech University reportedly committed by an Asian student (although verification is not yet in). If so, it is important to discuss the raciosexual (yes I made up that word and it deserves reification) dynamics of campus life, particularly how it impacts the education of young men not equipped to deal with a sexual ecology that would never appear in nature. If this is taken to mean I harbor sympathies for young men who might go on murderous rampages against those of another race that are fucking their women on campus--the answer is, "Yes". If this is further taken to mean that I hold innocent young men, living among foreigners in another country, who go on such rampages--the answer is, "No".
It is on this basis that I would like to interview a Chinese nationalist with first-hand knowledge of the situation facing young men in Nanjing so we can discuss how to prevent such torture of young men trying to receive an education--and potentially prevent catastrophic wars between our great nations resulting from vicious policies of multiculturalism.
