Run rpmdrake, search for 'wizard'.
Don't worry, be happy. -
Re:This is irritating
Since going to www.mandrivalinux.com and clicking download is apparently too difficult, I'll provide a link
:)
http://www1.mandrivalinux.com/en/ftp.php3
http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca/pub/distro/Mandrakelin ux/official/iso/10.2/x86_64/
Simply use urpmi to download any packages missing since it is only one CD. You are actually using less bandwidth that way, since you are only downloading the packages you need. -
Re:This is irritating
I don't have a use for 64 bit yet, so I haven't tried this link; but have you tried here? http://www1.mandrivalinux.com/en/ftp.php3#iso2005

Re:Ask Slashdot: Ubuntu vs. Mandriva
The Enterprise level doesn't have additional packagaes over the Mandrake Club Version. The Mandrake Club Version only has extra binary/non-free packages added.
To clarify, the Enterprise version is just a garunteed stable version, much like Debina stable. They also garuntee support for it for 5 years. There is nothing in it that you don't get with the regular version, except only security updates get applied to the Enterprise one for 5 years. For the small time user, big whoop.
To download the free version click here. It was like three clicks to find it.
I personally have found that Ubuntu does not have as good of hardware support as Mandrake/Mandriva. It is also a good idea to check the errata first as well.
EasyURPMI is a nice resource to add additional sources for packages. -
Putting the "B.S." in "OpenBSD"...
Everything that article says is pure bullshit.
First of all, I am a Linux hacker, I actually maintain my own distribution, so may as well get that disclaimer out of the way.
Now to the point.
The whole time I've been using Linux I have never said anything about any BSD system. Ever. I've made plenty of comments about Windows, and even other Linux distributions (Mandriva,
...) but nothing about FreeBSD, OpenBSD, etc. None of them. (Of course, my own distribution is perfect, it's just all the others I have problems with ;-)So who gave this guy the right to attack a bunch of guys who put in a lot of hard work and often for nothing in exchange?
Also, I don't think they should complain about comments in code. I often put even stranger things in stuff I write and nobody complains.
So basically, to summarize...
- There is nothing wrong with BSD. Of course, I haven't used it so can't really comment too much, but so far the only problem is the personality of one of its maintainers.
- There is nothing wrong with (most) Linuxes. Some exceptions apply though. Most have no problems however.
- There is plenty wrong with Windows. I won't go into detail.
- Mr. De Raadt really needs to stop flaming us just because our operating system is more popular and most likely better for various reasons, a good many of which involve nothing but mere chance.
No wonder it's spelled "B.S.-D".

Re:A New Business Model?-Everyone Happy?
Here's the "give'em what they want in action:
"I want a car with tail fins!"
http://www.openvms.org/ Vintage design, looks a bit strange, but still classy in its own way.
"No I want a car with a bright pink paint job!"
http://www.linspire.com/ It's a real Linux and seems to do the job, but it may be a bit soft compared to the trad distros. Looks a little like one of those "strange" OSs
"I want a car that flies through the air, and swims underwater!"
http://www.knoppix.com/ Frisbeed it at the cat. Dunked it in the sink. Dropped it into the CD drive and it still booted into Debian. Nice.
"Foo to the others. I just want a basic car that goes from point A to Point B!"
http://www.goosee.com/puppy/ This is one quick little puppy. Not much to it, but it goes like a train.
"Nuts to the above. I want a car with a hot tub, and a wet bar, and plenty of space for all the women I'm going to get by driving this pimpmobile!".
http://www1.mandrivalinux.com/en-us/ This sucker's big and fluffy. Has everything and the kitchen sink, and it'll look after you while you install it. -

Flash Newsletter: Mandrakesoft Announces Name Change!
It's been in the air for a few weeks...
After spending weeks balancing pros and cons, Mandrakesoft has decided to change its name!
The name change will apply worldwide to both the company and its products. The management team sees two good reasons for this change:
1. The recent Mandrakesoft - Conectiva merger calls for a new identity that better represents the combination of two key companies and their global presence.
2. The long-winding trademark lawsuit with Hearst Corporation has reached a point where we decided it is more reasonable for us to move forward. By adopting a new name, we eliminate the liability attached to the Mandrakesoft name and we can focus on what is important to us: developing and delivering great technology and solutions to both our customers and our user community.
We will endeavor to build even stronger brand recognition in our new name. So what is the new name?
The winner is ...
M A N D R I V A
Why Mandriva? This new name, simple and efficient, is the synthesis of Mandrakesoft and Conectiva. This will further a smooth transition and will build on our existing brand recognition in the IT world.
