Sorry to get off-topic, but what on earth are you doing with your CD/DVD media which leads to data loss within weeks?!??Maybe you should buy some of these things. They aren't very expensive.

perpahs a pci slot fan mounted in the 1st PCI slot would help cool the card, keeping the jet turbine that most graphics cards makers are adding these days from cranking up to full RPM's.

even more links/ideasi've been researching this for a while; below is what i've got bookmarked. a vast number of LCDs only have NTSC input,
so those might not be so hot unless you've got TV/NTSC out on your video card. LCDs with VGA controllers can be
found but are much more expensive. many vendors prefer to deal in volume only, so don't expect
too much help, or fast email replies.
i'd have to agree with some of the other posters; you might want to get an old thinkpad and butcher it a bit if you need
to get more resolution than TV(less than 640x480 IIRC, maybe 425?)
anyway, here are some other novel uses:
1 - get a bunch and make a shutter for a window in a car, sunroom, etc.
2 - get a bunch and make Art, i.e. a large random color/shape thingy to hang on a wall
3 - use it as a shutter in your front door for inspecting IDs
4 - use one as a digital shutter for a darkroom enlarger(for those still using film, that is.)
5 - make your own car/truck rear-view screen(needs a vid-cam)Mini LCD Monitor Review - Amdmb.com

Quite frankly, sir, you are ill-informed, since these thermal pastes do far more than your standard stuff you get from AMD or Intel (I'm not sure if Intel provides a thermal pad, I'm sure they do, but I've never bought an Intel processor), or buy on the internet that doesn't contain silver.

There are many more reviews and comparisons. I chose to do a Google search for 'review "arctic silver 3"' and those were pretty much the first hits I got. In an overclocked system where stability and cooling is important, these pastes could make all the difference. In a standard system, these help prolong the life of the computer's parts.
Oh, and before I forget, the links I just posted more or less compare Arctic Silver stuff with either other Arctic Silver products, or competing products. If you want to see just how much of a difference these compounds can make from the regular thermal pads or thermal compound that uses silicone, Check this out. That's a whopping 10 degrees celsius difference the Arctic Silver has on full load compared to a standard thermal pad, and 5 degrees difference from standard thermal compound w/silicone.
I personally use AS3, and so does my father. With this paste I can safely overclock my Athlon 2000+ to an Athlon 2600+. Not that I do, mind you, because even though I can, I'd rather know that my system is well cooled, rather than adequately.

"Technically, yes. Practically, no. The technical "limit" would be anything ranging from the speed of light to how long it takes it to reach your eyes to how fast your brain can interpret it. Other things like internal chemical reactions and the state of developed neural connections should also be considered. But still, 300,000,000m/s is pretty fast. What am I trying to say? This:

Re:What is the point?I hope some companies start marketing this LCD screen as an aftermarket kit for desktops and make installation easier.
In another article, a similar type of 5 inch LCD screen was fitted on the side of the desktop after cutting a hole there.[Mikhailtech].

I work for a small review website. I would have to agree, with the exception of mikhailtech. most of these websites are incredibly poor operations. Several of them except money to do hardware reviews and almost all of them are indescriminate about "editor's choice" awards.
With Tom's Hardware in the situation is it, (Tom cannot enter the united states without getting arrested. Apparently he never paid any American advertisers over the last 4 years), HardOCP and AT are the last large, decent review websites left.
If you want to read about some low quality hardware a 16 year old got for free, check out V1p3r'Sup4Caf3H4rdw4re. If you want to read actual unbiased reviews, try a big name hardware site. Hell, you might even learn something.

Why would you want a shim? Make a heatsink insteadA shim (as I understand it) will do about as much for your heat transfer as jumping up and down will cause an earthquake. More or less.
I thought, that maybe I was missing something in my vocabulary (english isn't my maternal language), but neither Merriam-Webster nor my Oxford dictionary was able to find more than one meaning of the word:
a thin often tapered piece of material (as wood, metal, or stone) used to fill in space between things (as for support, leveling, or adjustment of fit)
If you were to create a heat spreader (the chip on the left) as in the old socket 370 celerons and new Pentium III and Pentium IV (the large block of metal protecting the chip die), it would probably be a lot more useful (depending on it's strength of course).
If it is stong enough, it would probably be quite useful as a heatsink as well, although it would probably cost you a bundle at the moment.
But why use it as a shim? What next? Only use money for wiping your butt (don't try this trick with coins. Don't ask!)?
