Re:MSE Support
But they are working on support of hippie stuff like client side ruby. Mozilla, the hippie dragon!
Oh fuck. I hadn't heard about client-side Ruby. Thanks for ruining my day.
Ruby is bad enough on the server.

It's why I used hosts vs. malware, ads, spam
"BORING" (but proven, efficient, simple & effective) for: APK Hosts File Engine 9.0++ SR-2 32/64-bit:
http://start64.com/index.php?o...
FREE & adds speed, security, + reliability, doing more w/ less, more efficiently vs. addons + fixes DNS' redirect security issues:
---
A.) Hosts do more than:
1.) AdBlock ("souled-out" 2 Google/Crippled by default http://techcrunch.com/2013/07/... & ABP too http://finance.yahoo.com/news/... )
2.) Ghostery (Advertiser owned) - "Fox guards henhouse" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G...B.) Hosts add reliability vs. downed/redirected dns (& overcome site redirects e.g.
/. beta).C.) Hosts secure vs. malicious domains too -> http://tech.slashdot.org/comme... w/ less "moving parts" complexity
D.) Hosts files yield more:
1.) Speed (adblock & hardcodes fav sites - faster than remote dns)
2.) Security (vs. malicious domains serving malcontent + block spam/phish & trackers)
3.) Reliability (vs. downed, Kaminsky redirected (99% ISP DNS' = unpatched vs. it), DGA, Fastflux, & dynDNS botnets)
4.) Anonymity (vs. dns request logs + dnsbl's).---
* Hosts do more w/ less (1 file) @ faster levels (ring 0) vs redundant inefficient addons (slowing slower ring 3 browsers) via filtering 4 the IP stack (coded in C, loads w/ os, & 1st net resolver queried w\ 45++ yrs.of optimization).
* Addons = more complex + slow browsers in messagepassing (use a few concurrently & see) & are nullified by native browser methods - It's how Clarityray's destroying Adblock.
* Addons slowup slower usermode browsers layering on more - & bloat RAM consumption + excessive cpu use too (4++gb extra in FireFox https://blog.mozilla.org/nneth...)
(Work w/ a more capable native kernelmode part you already have - hosts (An integrated part of the ip stack))

I asked AdBlock's creator those questions... apk
Result? W. Palant RAN after he wrote me by email 1st saying "hosts are a shitty solution" to which I replied:
"Show us adblock can do more for added speed, security, reliability, & anonymity than hosts can, + that adblock does it more efficiently than hosts"
Which on my latter 'point-in-challenge' on efficiency AdBlock's proven by research to be MASSIVELY inefficient -> https://blog.mozilla.org/nneth... & adblock does FAR less than hosts (especially crippled by default).
I sent Wladimir Palant that challenge in response to his statement from 2 different email addresses I use!
Result = Still no answer from him in regard to my challenge put to him to this very day MONTHS later - that tell you anything? It did me!
He knows his addon is less efficient & features laden by FAR vs. hosts - Wladimir Palant RAN like a scared rabbit!
ClarityRay's also DESTROYING AdBlock - via native browser methods to DUMP what addons you use (it can't DO THAT to hosts files).
I only tell it how it is on hosts' superiority vs. AdBlock - Funny part is, Wladimir Palant running does too!
Especially considering "Almost ALL Ads Blocked" has 'souled-out' -> Google & Others Pay Adblock Plus To Show You Ads Anyway: http://news.slashdot.org/comme... & ABP too http://finance.yahoo.com/news/...
APK
P.S.=> Bottom-Line: Hosts = a superior solution that also fixes DNS redirect security issues (vs. browser addons & their inefficiencies + messagepassing overheads as well as myriad lack of abilities hosts have from 1 file that's part of the IP stack itself - faster, more efficient, & less redundant as well, since TCP/IP has 45++ yrs. of refinement & optimization in it, & runs in a higher CPU serviced ring of privelege & operations in kernelmode vs. slower usermode layering over browsers slowing them more, & hosts = 1st resolver queried by the OS itself also)... apk

Ask yourselves these questions... apk
Can adblock do 16 things hosts do for speed, security, & reliability:
1.) Protect vs. malicious sites/servers (beyond malicious ads: See 2-10 next)
2.) Protect vs. fastflux botnets + stop communication to C&C servers
3.) Protect vs. dynamic dns botnets + stop communication to C&C servers
4.) Protect vs. DGA botnets + stop communication to C&C servers
5.) Protect vs. downed DNS (adds reliability)
6.) Protect vs. DNS redirect poisoned dns
7.) Protect vs. trackers
8.) Protect vs. spam
9.) Protect vs. phishing
10.) Protect vs. bandwidth caps
11.) Get you past a dnsbl
12.) Keep you off dns request logs
13.) Speed up websurfing by adblocks & hardcoded fav. sites
14.) Work on ANY webbound app (think stand-alone email programs) multiplatform.
15.) Give you easily texteditor controlled data for the above
16.) Do all that & block ads (better than addons) more efficiently in cpu cycles + memory usage* ANSWER ="NO" to each above on AdBlock doing it as well or at all!
APK
P.S.=> AdBlock does FAR less than hosts do & FAR less efficiently - hosts by way of comparison, do MORE w/ less + Hosts start w/ the IP stack before REDUNDANT inefficient addons BEGIN to operate (as 1st resolver queried):
AdBlock's 4++gb & 100% CPU usage flooring inefficiency -> https://blog.mozilla.org/nneth... + ClarityRay defeats it + it 'souled-out' & is crippled by default paid off to not do its job http://techcrunch.com/2013/07/... & ABP too http://finance.yahoo.com/news/...
AdBlock adds complexity/room for breakdown/exploit + from a slower mode of operations (usermode = more messagepassing overheads vs. hosts in kernelmode).

He knows his addon is less efficient & features laden by FAR vs. hosts - Wladimir Palant RAN like a scared rabbit!
ClarityRay's also DESTROYING AdBlock - via native browser methods to DUMP what addons you use (it can't DO THAT to hosts files).

& ABP too http://finance.yahoo.com/news/...

http://start64.com/index.php?o...
FREE & adds speed, security, + reliability, doing more with less, more efficiently vs. addons + fixes DNS' redirect security issues:
---
A.) Hosts do more than:
1.) AdBlock ("souled-out" 2 Google/Crippled by default http://techcrunch.com/2013/07/... & ABP too http://finance.yahoo.com/news/... )
2.) Ghostery (Advertiser owned) - "Fox guards henhouse" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G...
3.) Request Policy -> http://yro.slashdot.org/commen...B.) Hosts add reliability vs. downed/redirected dns (& overcome site redirects e.g.
/. beta).C.) Hosts secure vs. malicious domains too -> http://tech.slashdot.org/comme... w/ less "moving parts" complexity
D.) Hosts files yield more:
1.) Speed (adblock & hardcodes fav sites - faster than remote dns)
2.) Security (vs. malicious domains serving malcontent + block spam/phish & trackers)
3.) Reliability (vs. downed, Kaminsky redirected (99% ISP DNS' = unpatched vs. it), DGA, Fastflux, & dynDNS botnets)
4.) Anonymity (vs. dns request logs + dnsbl's).---
* Hosts do more w/ less (1 file) @ faster levels (ring 0) vs redundant inefficient addons (slowing slower ring 3 browsers) via filtering 4 the IP stack (coded in C, loads w/ os, & 1st net resolver queried w\ 45++ yrs.of optimization).
* Addons = more complex + slow browsers in messagepassing (use a few concurrently & see) & are nullified by native browser methods - It's how Clarityray's destroying Adblock.
* Addons slowup slower usermode browsers layering on more - & bloat RAM consumption + excessive cpu use too (4++gb extra in FireFox https://blog.mozilla.org/nneth...)
(Instead, work w/ a more capable native kernelmode part you already have - hosts (An integrated part of the ip stack))

Re:Are the CAs that do this revoked?
Actually, Google doesn't rely on CAs as much as it appears at first glance: Chrome and Firefox come with Google's public keys and will not accept other keys. Not sure what other browsers do the same, although obviously not all of them (otherwise the attack this article is about never would have happened).

Re:Are the CAs that do this revoked?
Or at least their certs removed from valid CA Root lists that, for example, Mozilla uses. If not, why not? A trust has been breached.
The truth is that users have no way of knowing which of the tens of certificates included in the browser to leave and which to remove. This Super User question remains without a satisfactory answer, even as browser cert issues pile up almost monthly:

Re:Well no shit!
And yet, on iOS you can only use the bundled one and nothing else.
Opera Mini, released 2010, and Opera Coast, released 2014
Google Chrome, released 2012
News regarding Firefox, due for release at some point sooniOS requires that if you use a browser engine in iOS, it must be their version of WebKit for iOS, which is how Chrome and Coast work, but there are ways around even that, and there's nothing stopping you from building a better browser than theirs on top of their engine, which is exactly what others have done. Additionally, Opera Mini gets around the engine issue by moving the rendering to cloud servers. No idea how Mozilla is approaching it.
Have we forgotten the whole MS Antitrust fiasco? You remember that Microsoft WAS FINED because they bundled a fucking WEB BROWSER with their OS and made it the default, right? MS didn't force anyone to use it.
The distinction that people always seem to forget is that it generally isn't a matter of what you're doing, but is rather a matter of how you're using it. Going off your own example, there's nothing inherently illegal about bundling a browser with your OS. We see devices do this all the time; most of the console manufacturers have built-in browsers with no way to change them, for instance. And there's nothing inherently illegal about doing so well in business that you end up dominating a market; Amazon controls something like 90% of the eBooks market, for instance. But, especially as you get larger, you have a responsibility to not engage in practices that stifle or cripple competition. The market is supposed to be an even field to compete on. You're not allowed to rig the game.
In the case of Microsoft, there were allegations that they were intentionally rigging APIs in Windows to cripple competing browsers. On top of that, downloads back in the day took quite awhile to finish, so the fact that IE was bundled on the disc for a unrelated product that had a dominant market position (Windows) provided them with a seemingly unfair advantage over the other browsers (I don't know that I agree it was unfair, but whatever). The biggest issue, however (at least in the US case), and the piece that everyone forgets, is that they had reached a settlement back in '94 with the FTC that explicitly disallowed them from bundling other products with Windows, since the FTC had accused them of abusing their dominant position in the OS market to gain illicit advantages over their competitors.
THAT'S what made their bundling of IE illegal. Were iPhones in a similar market position and being used to allow Apple to push out competition in related markets, you can bet that Apple would have regulators breathing down their neck too. As it is though, Apple may be a big company, but their influence is no greater when it comes to these areas than that of their primary competitors.
LOL. And Microsoft is still evil.
Well, yeah. So is Apple. So is "don't be evil" Google. Suggesting Microsoft isn't evil like the rest of them is just naive. They just took it a step too far and got slapped.

Re:A turd by any other name
No, that doesn't follow at all. Firefox was a significantly better browser at the time, before they jumped the shark after version 4.
Your disagreement seems to be looking from now backwards instead of from the beginning. Since Firefox was named specifically, it's a browser that wasn't released until 3 years after (4 excluding the technology previews) the competition.
Better is such a subjective word, better how? Stability? That eliminates technology previews bumping the "better" browser back another year. I sincerely hope something developed years after its competition was released would improve upon established norms. Out of the gate it was feature incomplete by their own version numbers. Steve Jobs is one who can make that a compelling argument. Firefox also featured some really cool fundamental concepts, like the now ubiquitous download manager.
Firefox became competitive in 2005/2006. Prior to that IE was top dog, when IE6 was released it was better than the other browsers by means of features like standards support and speed. Prior to the JavaScript engine wars fundamentally changing things, there were incremental steps. IE6 believe it or not was peppy compared to Netscape's offerings. This is documented in Netscape Navigator's decline. IE6 at the time it was released and for many years was what the vast majority of designers targeted and designed for. Designed for Internet Explorer, Designed for Netscape Navigator were prevalent like perverse badges of honor. In my opinion the debut of Firebug in 2006 was a turning point for designer/developer interest considering many tools are heavily inspired by its features. Here's a neat little read on IE1.0 upto Firefox 2.0.I never claimed there was only _one_ tool. You sure love to jump to conclusions about things I never said. There was another utility I used to use back in the day too, it might have been MultIE. I've deleted / removed almost everything related to IE.
The way you mentioned it was, paraphrasing: "Sandboxie was really annoying." So is installing Steam games into it and so is supporting dozens of viewport sizes. Welcome to software!
You're missing the point. Microsoft popularized that crap. Just because other vendors are doing it doesn't give MS a free pass.
I feel like somewhere in your secret volcano lair there exists a giant whiteboard which has a soul crushing flowchart with winding complex paths leading to the giant Sauron like cloud labeled "Microsoft: Great Satan". At some point the responsibility shifts to the shoulders of those who take action.

Re:Feedback app
Ahem Mozilla for example has a feedback website.
Basically all major libre software projects have an online accessible bug database, to which everyone can contribute and where everyone can discuss about issues.
You can also propose feature improvements in a bugzillla. You can even write directly to the developers on their mailing lists.
If you want to provide feedback, you have all the means to do it in free (as in freedom) software projects.I cannot think of any non-free software that has this kind of open interaction with developers. There might be some, but I think it's fair to assume that those are a very small fraction.

Sand in yer pants and shoe...
If we take the chrome browser out of this
most would agree that improving the ability
to sandbox a program is good.https://wiki.mozilla.org/Secur...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... (out dated by a bit)This secure computing mode might be too simple for
some but it seems like a necessary tool to write code
that needs some trust and or is the target of all the
hackers in the world.Since malware and other browser vectored problems abound
this could be a good thing. I see a long list of multithreaded
tools that use this sandbox.... It seems necessary
to have TSYNC if Intel and others are serious about growing
the number of cores in future processors..
