Regarding AdBlock & Wladimir Palant its creator: He wrote me by email, 1st mind you, stating "hosts are a shitty solution" to which I replied this:

"Show us that adblock can do more for added speed, security, reliability, & anonymity than hosts files can, + that adblock does it more efficiently than hosts do"

Which on my latter 'point-in-challenge' on efficiency he was proven in research by others to be MASSIVELY inefficient -> https://blog.mozilla.org/nneth... & Palant can't show adblock does more (especially crippled by default as it is, 'souled-out' to GOOGLE no less).

Additionally - I sent Wladimir Palant that challenge in response to his statement, & from 2 different email addresses I keep no less!

Result? This:

Still no answer from him to myself in regard to my challenge put to him to this very day MONTHS later (that tell you anything? It did me - he knows his addon is far inferior to hosts and certainly less efficient by far also) - Wladimir Palant RAN like a scared rabbitt...

I only tell it how it is on hosts' superiority vs. AdBlock & any browser addon (or combo of them, from a SINGLE FILE you already natively possess no less - vs. "bolting on" more redundant & inefficient complexity + room for failure/breakdown) - funniest part is, Wladimir Palant (& his running) does as well!

Try that. Also it pays to use NoScript with minimal temporary whitelistings and perhaps remove some of its default whitelistings, such as Google etc.

As others have said, those who use AdBlock don't click on ads anyway, but as not said often enough, they will recommend your site to those who do if they get decent service there while not even mentioning that they run AdBlock etc till someone complains to them about the ads. If they aren't seeing things that annoy them, then why rant about it to an often unappreciative audience?

No, since Firefox is currently limiting the use of this plugin to WebRTC - which basically means it's not available for anything actual users want to do, such as watch html5 video.

Thankfully, that is incorrect. The OpenH.264 decoder can be used for HTML video elements. Though the last I heard Mozilla is still working on AAC audio licensing.

Firefox already supports H.264 for the video element using platform codecs where they are available, but as noted in my last blog post on the topic, not all OSes ship with H.264 included. Provided we can get AAC audio decoders to match, using Cisco's OpenH264 binary modules allows us to extend support to other platforms and uses of H.264.

The article mentions Youtube, without giving any specifics. Seems they're shipping the plugin greyed out, disabled etc. and then WebRTC stuff will work (does anyone have either used that?) and then maybe you'll be able to use html5 video in some future version, maybe.

Don't forget that the GMP only have access to a certain number of firefox functions and runs inside a sandbox. That code is treated as insecure and as it have a very defined objective, is easier to sandbox (ie: no filesystem access, no network, etc).
