A self-proclaimed geek who's proud of it and wants you to know that she is female.

Surprise surprise.
And she's a Progressive Woman
This broad really brings out the misogynist in me.
I'm maxed out on "relationships" here and have pruned all the "non-reciprocal" befriendings off my list. So I'm terribly sorry but I can't reciprocate anyone else ...

Re:Cyber bullying on Slashdot
It slightly humorous that your main complaint is about how neither you nor your site host could secure msgeek.org from a horde of morons. As one replier mentioned, on slashdot, just browse at +4 (or even +2 IMO).. and how do you suppose a site like The Well survives? Quite plainly, you think obnoxious idiots should be against the law (forgive my weakness for hyperbole) or that someone else should protect your website... It's like opening a store, leaving the backdoor unlocked and bemoaning the fact that some punk teenagers walked in and posted rude S&M photos all over the walls.
Lock your doors. The world is full of idiots.

Hey dyke! How's MsGeek These days!?!!?!?
I just LOVE MsGeek's site ! Especially the "fash" section , where I learned to cut the bottom off of an old shirt to use as a hair enhancement! Oh, and the "dance party" photos !
Of course, don't forget to read MsGeeks's emails ! Here you will discover how truly difficult it is to decide what to do on the weekends... have a pizza party? A fash party? Go to the mall with all of your friends? Have a sleepover and call boys on the phone ?
In short, if you haven't checked out MsGeek's site , you don't know what you're missing! -

Cable modem over here...Yep, I just took the plunge. Adelphia@Home just hooked me up two days ago. Now I hear that the majority of @Home creditors have banded together to force @Home into shutting down to try to extort more money out of AT&T. It's at http://www.dotcomscoop.com/.
Here's further coverage of the situation, from the same site. I really hate the fact that we @Home users are being used as pawns in negotiations in bankruptcy court. It ain't fair. I finally get my broadband back after over a year's drought, when I basically had to get rid of the DSL connection due to lack of funds, and this happens.
Maybe this might be a solution...Aerie Networks, the folks who bought Metricom for a pittance, is looking to involve local governments in basically providing their service as an utility. Last time I checked, cable TV is a utility and regulated as such. Maybe local governments with constituents directly affected by the @Home financial debacle should step up to the plate here.
I get greater-than-T1 speed from this connection. It's fun. It's a pleasure to not be sucking the Internet through a 45.5Kbps straw. I pray that this pleasure will not be short-lived.

Space is multi-region!
Taken from a msgeek article:
"Call the MPAA thought police! :P NASA is technically in violation of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act!
According to this site, NASA paid a region-hacking company in the UK for two hacked Sony FX-1 DVD players. This is technically illegal under the terms of the DMCA, as it thwarts a content-restriction scheme.
It could be argued that the ISS is an international zone beyond the reach of US law and therefore DMCA doesn't apply. But NASA is a United States government agency and is bound by the DMCA.
I look forward to what may happen if the MPAA decides to play hardball with NASA. This sounds like a terrific case to test the (un)constitutionality of the DMCA...bwahahaha!!! "

Re:Gibon sees stereotypes. You don't have to.First off...great article. I'd love it if you wrote for my site.
PC ownership is MUCH lower in Japan than in other nations because many Japanese don't have the space for a PC in their homes
Well, you can blame Apple for not making a PowerPC followup to their Color Classic. Back in the day when the classic-format Macintosh was actually a fairly well powered machine, the Mac ruled Japan. Now that Apple no longer makes a compact Mac, and the Japanese see the alternatives, I think they are more inclined to sit this out. The Mac's Kanji support is still better than Windows' support for Kanji, although who knows if Kanjitalk exists in MacOS X. There are whole groups of people in Japan who are dedicated to hot-rodding Color Classics...here's a link to The Club For Creating The Strongest Color Classic, a place where Japanese computer geeks trade ideas for souping up Color Classics. And on the PC side there's always Sony's VAIO offerings, which seem to do a hell of a lot better in Japan than in the US.

Yoohoo! Disc-chord!Hey Disc-chord...submit the articles here!
You'll at least get a good hearing. I can't guarantee posting but I will at least READ your submissions and consider posting them. Judging from the subject matter you're talking about there's a good chance it'll make it.
Take care,

I voted via touchscreen...Heya all...
I actually participated in the LA County experiment with touchscreen voting. The system I tried is actually the same system that San Bernadino County is using.
When I wrote up this article, I was unaware that the machine does not submit its results via the Internet or some sort of VPN, but each machine is taken back to the Registrar-Recorder and manually read out. So the security issues I raised in the original article may not actually be valid.
The thing that I must stress about the new touchscreen system is this:
- It is unambiguous. The choices are clear.
- It is simple...a child could do it.
- It easily adapts to the visually handicapped/learning disabled and to those not fluent in English. There is an audio headset for the visually handicapped, and the machine has versions of the ballot stored for some 10 languages other than English.
If this touchscreen system existed in Palm Beach County, FL, you wouldn't see the kind of confusion that was rife there.
The punchcard ballot is what we have in Los Angeles County currently. It's archaic. It's time to bid it farewell, as it is time to say bye-bye to the Electoral College.
The touchscreen system I used at the test station in Van Nuys could be a great way to prevent debacles like in Florida from happening again.

Some Slashdotters seem like cavemen. This whole topic has become a very good example of what is wrong with Slashdot. I am amazed but not surprised at the 1950s-throwback nature of the vast majority of posters here. "Have wifey stay at home" seems to be the solution everyone is proposing. Yeah, right. Even on coders' salaries that is usually impossible. Get your fsckn heads out of TV Land and get real.
Meanwhile, if you want a SERIOUS discussion of this issue, visit us at http://msgeek.org/ . All the content, half the grits, and none of that annoying testosterone aftertaste.
