Regarding physical health, there is increasing evidence that mortality and morbidity rates are substantially higher for those who engage in homosexual practices. For example, the risk of anal cancer soars by as much as 4,000% for men who engage in anal intercourse with other men. I've been in a very happy (heterosexual) relationship for years, and there isn't much pain, or suffering in it, neither is there in the most of the other heterosexual couples I know.

Then by your own admission most heterosexual couples you know are, apparently, fine. Sheer volume might account for the fact that "a fair number" of heterosexual couples you've met had issues with domestic violence, and "only one" homosexual couple did. Do you know comparable numbers of gay and straight couples? And might there possibly just be more pressure on homosexual couples to gloss over issues with domestic violence, in the interests of trying to help themselves be perceived as a "normal family"?

I'm in your corner on this, but I do note that sometimes naked aggression and disruption (threatened or actual) by true believers is sometimes an effective way to get science (or, at minimum, standard scientific references) changed.

The problem with that thought is you assume that homosexuality is actually genetic. If it is genetic then why does everyone refer to homosexuality as "sexual preference"? Since some people go from straight to gay to straight that eliminates the possibility that homosexuality is genetic. Also, (I'm thinking out loud here) since homosexuality prevents reproduction from occurring naturally then for all those people who believe in evolution (which coincidentally are usually the same liberals who believe homosexuality is genetic) homosexuality will end up killing off the human species because it goes against what evolution is trying to do (which is to make the best living specimen possible). Homosexuality will cause the human species to die out as the genes for it continue to spread throughout the world. I have to wonder why other species haven't shown signs of homosexuality if evolution and genetic homosexuality are both true since the problem should crop up in other species (through evolution) just like it seemed to have cropped up in humans. I can't believe Wired actually let that slip by without even a mention of what the group actually stands for.

Not to mention that one of the psychiatrists on the panel is involved with theNational Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality, a controversial organization of psychiatrists and psychologists dedicated to demonstrating that homosexuality is a mental disorder.

As a clinical psychologist, I find this organization deeply disturbing. It's one thing to do scientific research to defend a position, it's another to tout "case studies" of rare individuals who have been "reoriented". The problem is, most scientific research suggests that homosexuals aren't any more disordered than normal individuals, and that in any event, sexual orientation is neurogenetically complex. I'm all for free speech, and they're welcome to it, but what they're pushing is political pseudoscience.

If you look closely at their webpage, you'll note a remark about NARTH being comprised of "psychiatrists and psychoanalytically informed psychologists", as if somehow they are privy to some psychoanalytic "truth" that you need to be "informed" about to understand. Psychodynamic theory and practice has its strong points, like anything, but psychoanalysis is historically notorious for relying on pseudoscience and anecdotes to support a position. These individuals are actually damaging psychodynamic theory by perpetuating an outdated--and dangerous--psychotherapeutic culture.

All of this is to show that there's a lot here beneath the surface. It's not just about porn--it's about any unusual sexual behavior. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some discussion about porn causing homosexuality, or homosexuality causing porn, or homosexuals consuming a majority of porn, or whatever.

This stuff makes me so upset. Psychological science and politics is dangerous enough, without this pseudoscientific garbage.

Homosexuality is genetic

No, actually, *some traits* of homosexuality can be attributed to genetics - but studies of identical twins shows that it is most definitely not solely genetic.

Researchers are discovering that there are many biological and some sociological 'cues' that when present in the proper combination(s) can create sexual desire for members of the same sex.

I think it's more accurate to say that homosexuality is (mostly) biological, rather than learned, behaviour.

In this case I was referring to anyone under the age of 18, but in other cases I use it to refer to exclusive attraction to prepubescent children. I think there is a case to be made to distinguish between those that are exclusively attracted to prepubescent children, and those that have a continum of attraction that spans from adults to children.

As for the number of people who are engage in sexual activity with people under the age of 18, there must millions of them. First because of the figures, here and here, that suggest that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused by the age of 18. As well this article indicates, there were 250,000 members on from one country (Britain) on one child porno website. This problem is quite large judging by the population of potential pedophiles (<18), but any attempts at looking at the problem scientifically is met with hostility unless the scientists tow the line. Progress cannot be made in such an environment.
