Re:Refunds
Second, as the App Store stands now, Apple makes 30% of each sale just for hosting the app. They're basically getting 1/3 of the revenue while doing 0% of the work. That's a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Why would they want to keep developers out?
What they are likely planning is to try to once again block out free programs, a large number of which have been developed for the iPhone.
Stuff like this.

Re:You don't have a loghost?
Spot on. The lack of clue within the RIAA is mindnumbing. A MAC-Address is completely meaningless. As in:
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:DE:AD:BE:EF:00
And for you Windoze enthusiasts, there's macshift.

Re:Cron
To extend on that further, like the iPhone anti-theft program being developed you can have the script check a simple web page which the content is either 0 or 1.. If its 0 it waits. You set it to 1 when its stolen. Then the script takes pictures, reports addresses, emails web history, phone & sms records (for an iphone anyway) and can do dozens of other things, you just need to write the script. I would think most laptop/gadget "opportunity" thefts are done by folks who arent IT pros. It's going to be someone who would spend some time going through the device using its own OS to get files off for at least a short time, and then wipe it with a OS reinstall.

Re:Not dupe Re:Dupe
Well that's already been done (see here for a demo of installing/deploying an app to an iPhone), so do you mean when it's easy enough for Joe Average to do it? That's still going to be a bit of time. But it's just a matter of putting together some pretty automation software to go through all the steps to run jailbreak, get SSH access working, and SCP over the necessary files.
Clearly this app had to be installed to be run, right?
I mean, there are binary builds of some apps already, which may not be particuarly useful apps to run on your iPhone (like Apache and Python), but they are apps nonetheless. See this page.
So, it's now a matter of making some useful third party apps. Then there'll be a reason to clean up and streamline the hacking and install process. -
Re:How about Applescript or Fscript?
How about SSH?
Might be time to bite the $600 bullet. -
Re:Public Proxy != Anonymous
First use a OS that allows you to change your MAC address
For Win XP, you can use FOSS macshift to set either a specific or random MAC address. -
Or if you want...
You could build your own:

Made from a router using OpenWrt Linux and a cell phone data cable. Batteries not included. -
Re:802.11x compatible?
For cards that don't have that property, you use the open-source Macshift. Works on all Windows network adapters, wired or wireless.

Re:Tragedy of the commonsFor now, let's ignore the possibility of being able to change the MAC address on some ethernet cards.
Not some. All. Macshift for Windows XP can do it, and it works for damn near every network card. Wireless too. http://macshift.natetrue.com
