Mr. Cotton's BIO
http://nbcuni.com/About_NBC_Universal/Executive_Bi os/cotton_rick.shtml
Exceedingly wealthy people in these kinds of positions are often detached from reality. The guy probably hasn't pumped his own gas in 10 years (if ever, no that's not a shot against you New Jersey-ians).
He probably sees bank robbery as a victimless crime, that's what insurance is for right? No people in the bank get traumatized, no one had to pay for that missing money, besides everyone out there has more money than they know what to do with, right? Why can't he afford that 12th Porches? Poor guy.
In all actuality, he's simply missing perspective. We all are. I can't tell you how hard it is to live in the projects, I don't live there. It's easy to look down on people who you aren't familiar with. Perhaps, it's easy for me to look down on a millionaire jackass making these comments because I just don't understand him.
If he got mugged and beat half senseless he'd probably have a different view of things. -
Information Hard to Find
Yeah, I hate this world where there are one or two mega players with enough clout to define the market. Apparently Universal was part of the Vivendi idiocy and was recently sold to NBC (a Division of GE now called NBC Uni).
Anyway, I decided to look up Universal Studios to see if they had a beefier press release. Here is a slightly longer article on Reuters. It sounds like NBCUni and Microsoft are siting in a back room brewing up some sort of concoction that the rest of the world will regret. This efforts appears to be part of something called BASCAP (Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy).
I wish these people would just realize that the way to beat piracy is simply to establish channels for distributing the movies that are neither too costly nor too burdensome to the public. Instead, we have monopolies working in backrooms with monopolies making something that is both expensive and restrictive to the point that piracy will continue to prevail. -
Re:Will there be more episodes?
Note that Sci-Fi does not have deep pockets any more. They did back when they bankrolled Farscape, but then their parent, Vivendi Univesal, went thoroughly bankrupt. Ever since then, they've refused to look at any big-budget project.
If you recall, most of Vivendi's stake in Universal was bought out by (GE/)NBC a while back, including SciFi .. check hout http://www.nbcuni.com/ for more details. Though the ratings for NBC may not be quite like during the heyday of 'Must See TV', their pockets aren't too shabby. -
Re:Im in the same boat.I have no idea where you got that from, but it's completely wrong.
SkyOne (and the whole Sky network) is 35% owned by News Corp, 65% is freely on the market.
9. Who are BSkyB's shareholders?
At 31 December 2004, our shareholders were:
News UK Nominees Limited.
(a subsidiary of News Corporation) : 35.75%
Other public and institutional shareholders : 64.25%
News Corp own the Fox network, but not NBC (and not SciFi). Details here.
NBC is owned by Universal/Vivendi, who do indeed also own SciFi. -
getting the message across to NBC
the best way to make NBC understand that they their coverage style isn't appreciated is to tell them:
nbcolympicsfeedback@nbcuni.com
They've got the monopoly so they will get the ratings regardless so the message to send them is that you'd love to watch more but find the overemphasis of successful americans and inane chatter of Costas and Couric to much to take.
