or the DirecTV HR-20 and HR-21. I'm watching Babylon 5 via Hulu using PlayOn (which I think is built on the same platform that this LG streaming capability is built on).
Why is radio held to a higher standard than other forms of entertainment? All sort of sick crap is discussed and displayed on TV and movies, yet no one comes out demanding the actors, writers or directors involved be fired.
Someone gets offended at something (they probably didn't hear) on the radio and they wont be satisfied until the DJs and all their support staff are fired.
I personally think that businesses should be able to write off the time and money they spend on DST patching. It was the government that wants this DST change.
The amount of downtime we've endured in our company is horrendeous because of this DST change. We have no choice but to install these poorly tested patches.
I guess we wont be seeing a cure for cancer out of this campus anytime soon.
2 questions though:
1) what does this have to do with wireless network trafic? Are they implying that this increasing traffic? Or are they simply boasting about their use of wireless networking? The former would be an interesting claim (but doubtful), the latter certainly isn't interesting.
2) what is preventing the "artist" from just randomly displaying colors and such? Where's the artistic and technical oversight? This could be a coverup in the making. Hmmmmmm.
Apple is determined and committed in delivering the experience and not just the product.
Sounds like the same approach Southwest Airlines took. Hiring a bunch of people who were good at what they do and love it not who are industry types who will do it the same way everybody else does.
The result, the only consistently profitable airline. Apple did the same thing, did it their way not everybody elses. If only Apple would follow Southwest's lead on low prices.
Still, Apple has a way to go on customer service. They are so focused on selling extended warrenties that they can be slow to act on systemic quality problems.
The dress code (or lack of) observed by Linux and Open Source proponents isn't the problem, even the unprofessional image at can produce isn't the problem. The attitude of the "Sandals and Ponytail" set is the problem.
"Sandals and Ponytails" are associated with the carefree California lifestyle. This is also associated with fanboy know it alls. This just doesn't mix well in a business environment.
"Sandals and Ponytails" are some of the most inflexible people out there. If it doesn't conform to their moral view of the world, then it doesn't exist to them. This doesn't mix well in a business environment.
Introducing a new technology, especially a new OS into a business environment is all about supporting legacy applications. Changes have to be introduced incrementally. This is a big challange with open source OS's and software. Too often the answer is "rip that out and replace it with an open source version." That doesn't fly with the business types and the "Sandals and Ponytails" just cant understand why.
As long as the "Sandals and Ponytails" refuse to listen to business types and vice versa, open source will continue to struggle.
I hate it when presenters or other meeting runners do this. Dont judge me guilty before I've committed a crime. This also implies that what they have to say is going to keep my attention 100% of the time, which it never does. Why cant I read an email or two while you fumble with your slides, make sure everyone on the video conference can hear you, take a drink of water, and whatever else takes up the first 10 minutes of every meeting?
If someone is distracting, have the courage call them out. This premptive strike is cowardly and more unprofessional than the behavoir it is trying to prevent.
This is not new, the media just woke up to it. Probably because of recent controversies over MySpace and Facebook.
Before there was a web, employeers were searching USENET postings to see what applicants had been up to. The technical newsgroups are the most interesting as they can give some insight into how the person learns and how they might interact with others via email.
Is the applicant offering help to others? Are they asking questions? Are the questions getting better? A dumb question last year is a good thing as long as it isn't reapeated. A dumb question last week might indicate a problem, especially if it's about something they mention on their resume.
None of these things are end-all be-all evaluations of the person, especially since they are created over time. But they can give an interviewer some good ideas for questions.
Horseshit! IT support IS about users and you'd better learn how to talk to them if you want to keep working in IT. RTFM as a response to stupid user questions will eventually get you your walking papers.
Wrong. Many supposed IT problems should actually be solved by HR with a good talking to about abuse of company resources and how that might limit your career.
Calling IT when you forget your password for the 5th time that month or with some dumb question because you are too lazy to crack open a manual is no better than stealing office supplies or equipment. It's all just stealing resources.
Who funds IT? Do you think they've been turning down funding to improve storage and the network? Are they all idiots? Probably not.
Dont make demands of IT, ask how you can help them get their projects done. I'm not talking about working their cases or helping id the bottlenecks, I'm talking about learning more about what their problems are and talking it up with your mangament.
If enough employees start complaining about the situation IT is in and not in IT itself, something might happen. Complaining to management that IT are idiots sounds like bitching because that's all it is. Chances are there is some idiocy in IT but it's probably in it's managment and complaining about the rank and file IT employees is counter productive.
And no I'm not a IT employee but I work closely enough with them and have for enough years to understand they deal with a level of crap unlike anything most other employees understand.
Seriously, this is a non story. In car nav systems are no more dangerous (probably less dangerous) than a fold up map or 8.5"x11" printouts from Google Maps or Mapquest. All are distractions.
Lassiter said that he'd might do Toy Story 3 at some point but it would be done when the story was there to support it and with the original people who brought Toy Story 1 to life.
Fox's website has more info and a photo of the Marge Simpson Soundstage where the voices are recorded. Next time you are watching, picture the actors sitting, often alone, in this room recording their lines.
If wikipedia was the invaluable resource many think it to be, someone would have stepped forward and provided the funds necessary to keep it running. Google or some other entitity would kick in the needed money. But that hasn't happened.
Why? Because Wikipedia has gotten too big and is having difficulty scaling. Add to that the trust issues that have surfaced recently and it's hard for Wikipedia to succeded in the current environment.
and people still wouldnt use it widely. I'd venture a guess that those who do use it only have a couple of well chosen feeds.
Personally I use it for anything but news or website update notifications. I use it to monitor bug lists and trouble ticket lists. The integration with Firefox makes it nice.
I gave 3 weeks notice. They escorted me out of the building within 20 minutes of my handing over a letter of resignation to my supervisor (I was going to a competitor). Yes, I got paid in full for the whole 3 weeks. My only regret was not giving 4 weeks notice.
HR gave me grief for not giving 2 weeks notice, said I was greedy. I offered to work out those 3 weeks, they showed me the door. Hey, I dont make the rules I just take advantage of them.

Why the rest of the country, much less the rest of the world, cares about what Massachusetts thinks is standard?

Why the double standard? I dont get it.
this toolbar doesn't give me anything I cant get with the bookmarks toolbar.

Yes, Go Hokies.

20% of the users create 80% of the work for IT.

What's stopping you from taking some time off? Will your current employer hunt you down if you take an afternoon off? What's the sick policy like?
"You wasted $150,000 on an education you coulda got for a buck fifty in late charges at the public library."
"A survey of US and UK music buyers reveals"
Game over, any survey which asks people whether or not they do someting illegal is never going to get acurate results.
