Re:Not until the keyboards improve
True, but that day is probably way off in the future.

Re:Sound SystemLOL! This reminds me of when I first got my driver's license. It was too expensive (insurance-wise) to keep the Alpha Romeo Giulietta in the family with a 16-year-old boy in the house, so the 'rents sold it in favor of a MASSIVELY underpowered Chevy Chevette
I got them back by putting a "cellular phony" in the car: it was a fake phone I mounted on the center console, and a fake corkscrew-style antenna that I mounted on the back window. Then I put a Porsche badge on the front grille, ensuring that mum and pop got laughs, winks and thumbs-up wherever they went.

Re:The "Home Computer Museum"...
Nice TRS-80 setup.
I had the same plotter and floppy drive and my 110 baud modem looked like his 300. I had a barcode scanner and my cassette drive looked different. -
Re:Gravity and Heat
By 'we', you mean you and the publishers of various UFO magazines?
Perhaps he refers to the majority of people who realize that they can only observe a relatively small portion of the universe. And anyone with common-sense can easily realise the 90% figure is used metaphorically so get a clue.
And what UFO magazine did you pull "dyson spheres" out of? Its a pretty safe assumption that dyson spheres won't make up any of the so-called "dark matter" out there.
Perhaps some people really need to read a bit more, some suggested material:

Don't Complain - It's All HereThat mirror is some unofficial portion of the real thing, which now has an official mirror here: http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/merzo/
The origrinal slashdotted site started to redirect here after a couple of days. This is just the standard editorial sloppiness that ensures I'll never pay for slashdot.

Where's the emotion?
The poster was right - this is not Verdi. Music is not just an expression of mathematical equations. What these compositions are missing is the feeling, the tension, the journey that music should take you on. Serious music lovers like myself all would say that the best music is that which is filled with emotion. That includes classical music like Beethoven and Handel; it also (at least IMHO) includes newer music from bands like The Tea Party, Our Lady Peace, or my favourite indie band, Das Radio.
The true breakthrough will be when equations can be used to create music with emotion. Unfortunately, that will probably be years away... -
Well, it seems that they were partly right
The Catholic Church knew the earth was round. (Read Dante's "Divine Comedy" if you don't believe me). Their mistake was to insist that the earth be considered the center of the universe.
They're really good at getting important things wrong, but this time - at least in general - they may turn out to have been right, or at least righter than their opponents. -

They shut down my site months agoMr. Carlin (the lawyer on the Barney side) sent me a similar letter in January. A few months earlier, my Geocites site was removed without any explanation from Geocities.
It seems that they went for higher profile sites first, particularily the ones that criticized the educational content of the show. I just decided to take the site down and not try to bother fighting it as I'm in Canada and don't have the time or the resources to fight this.
You can view the whole letter here. Maybe if enough people protest, I'll put the site back up somewhere else. However, if you look through Yahoo's Barney section here, you'll see plenty of infringement on the fan pages. The fan pages are much more blantantly infringing than any of the stuff I put up. Don't they have to threaten everybody that infringes, or else it won't hold up in court?
Yahoo has delisted many of the now removed sites under the "Anti-Barney" category. At one time there were close to 20 of them.

Screen Shots
I posted a few screen shots of my KDE desktop here
http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/grantl/kde/
Taken of KDE 2.1.9=>20010223 ( ie.. a recent cvs snapshot ) and QT 2.3.0
ps. my real colors aren't quite that ugly, blame it on the jpeg compression effects ( ie. more reddish less "muddy" ) -
Implications for search engines...
So if distributing "harmful matter" (what Jello Biafra was accused of) is criminal, or if distribiting DeCSS or other "infringing speech" is criminal, AND if creating a link to such a site is equivalent to the "crime" itself, what will become of search engines?
So, soon all the search engines will universally adopt the list of banned sites from BESS, Netnanny, etc., and then the net will be truly safe for children! Nothing controversial, no illegal speech, no forbidden speech, and we will all be using our cable modems to download live streams of Barney and Teletubbies...
