Stop worrying about what you're neighbor is surfing. Push all of your open gateway traffic transparently through Tor. A little bit of ipf/pf/iptables juju, some redsocks thrown in to act as a transparent proxy... Anyone can use your guest network for DNS and TCP traffic (sorry, no UDP) and if they go hanging out at questionable sites, who cares.

It's a little known fact, but Russians have used vacuum for many years for these kind of purposes. The problem is that it leaks pretty easy, so you have to keep a large supply at hand. Russians solved it by liquefying vacuum so that it takes less space, and can be conveniently trucked around in vehicles like this one, or even stored onboard for quick resupply.

That doesn't sound right. You should complain to the network administers. NFS is supposed to be robust against server overloads and even reboots. (I recall one story about how a client machine dutifully waited six months for a damaged server to be shut down and shipped across the country and back for repairs.)

That said, nfs4 works well for us. POHMELFS and CRFS look even more promising.

The article does not completely ignore the issue of kernel versions. In fact, they noted the different kernel versions in use between the various versions of Ubuntu they tested.

It is likely, that regressions in performance were introduced in new Linux kernels.

Zbr noted huge regressions in tbench benchmark resulting in a loss of 100MB/sec performance between Kernel 2.6.23 and the latest 2.6.27 on the same exact hardware!

It was reported recently that tbench has a long history of regressions, started at least from 2.6.23 kernel. I verified, that in my test environment tbench 'lost' more than 100 MB/s from 470 down to 355 for 8 threads between at least 2.6.24 and 2.6.27. 2.6.26-2.6.27 performance regression in my machines rougly corresponds to 375 down to 355 MB/s.

Phone is easily reflashable including mods that add telnet and FTP ;-)

This autosurgeon can already do the same thing without any human instructions.

About one year ago Boris Babajan had a speach on some celebration. Here is a few quotes from his speach(in really bad translation):

We worked together for 3 great years.I got his letters when he speaking about our architecture (Elbrus-3?) as about great one. Later he left Sun.He didn't succed to convince his company to make our architecture the main one. Then he formed his own company, Transmeta, where he continiued to develop same architecture that exist in Elbrus-3, architecture of wide command word(VLIW??) based on binaru compilation(binary tranlation system???), but in a bit different variant.....
The impostance of this two exmaples shows that now, in post-superscalar world there is only 3 place where developed wide command word(VLIW?) architicture. First place is Moscow, our collective, second is HP-Intel, and third it's Transmeta together with IBM and Texas Instruments.That's It ! No one else has this technology. In order to develop it you need at least 10 years. Of coursse you can clone(steal) it. It's always fast. But to develop it independetly takes a lot of time...
