More on CERN & Windows
"Status of Windows 7 at CERN - As of end of March 2010, Windows 7 is officially supported at CERN. It is also the default operating system to install on the computers that meet the minimum hardware requirements."
FROM -> https://winservices.web.cern.ch/winservices/Help/?kbid=010301
* And of course, CERN runs its webservers off Windows also, not Linux... -> http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=www.cern.ch
(So what was that about Linux being so installed @ CERN? Not saying it doesn't EXIST there, there's always some deluded PHOOL, like yourself, that believes "Open 'SORES'" is "good/better" lol... but, per the above? Seems you did your usual "FAIL" level performance!)
APK
P.S.=> QUESTION: How much MORE do I have to keep "blowing you away" with? Oh, this will do "nicely" I think, lol -> http://linux.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=2604450&cid=38607134 for starters... lol!

Bugzilla's ONLY UP TODAY (1/6/2012)
Only TODAY (1/6/2012) did bugzilla come "back online", & proof of that's here:
Linux
Apache/2.2.21 (Fedora)
6-Jan-2012
198.145.19.204
Infinity Internet, Inc.http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=bugzilla.kernel.org
(So... Maybe NOW it's up, but it wasn't when this article came out, lol... & others' proofs of that quoted or linked to -> http://linux.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=2604450&cid=38591446 show that much per my last post...!)
* LOL - U LOSE/U FAIL!
(Face it - Linux only gets used where MOSTLY "smallish" companies try to save monies on costs of software, but per this link -> http://linux.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=2604450&cid=38607134 ? That tells a "little different story" now, doesn't it?? Yes, it does!)
Also?
On PC desktops, Linux only has a 1.29% marketshare -> http://www.netmarketshare.com/report.aspx?qprid=10&qptimeframe=M&qpsp=155
So what LITTLE GAIN it has @ 70% of the server market doesn't matter - There's far, Far, FAR MORE DESKTOP/HOME PC's, by FAR, using Windows over Linux... roughly 85-95% on Windows last I checked (& the server market can't even BEGIN to touch that use count, there's less servers than desktops is why...).
APK
P.S.=> U FAIL & especially vs. THIS list -> http://linux.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=2604450&cid=38607134
... lol!... apkb

"Cern uses Scientific Linux on a massive scale for mission-critical applications" - by Anonymous Coward on Thursday January 05, @07:16PM (#38605114)
Doesn't look like Linux here @ CERN -> http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=www.cern.ch (lol, looks like Windows!)
Which part of mission-critical applications didn't you get ? clue: GP was NOT talking about their website

They use Windows for their website domain though, see here -> http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=www.ibm.com (Citrix products are based on Windows by default, but they have 'agents' that will extend to UNIX).
Yes and the point was about their millions internal servers and desktop, not about their unique website.
"DNS servers runs on Linux" - by Anonymous Coward on Thursday January 05, @07:16PM (#38605114)
They do on Windows too, did you think otherwise?
I suppose he was talking about the root name servers running linux. Although I have no idea whether those actually run linux or not.
"Windows needs a antivirus program because it's a malware magnet" - by Anonymous Coward on Thursday January 05, @07:16PM (#38605114)
Windows is the MOST USED, thus, it's going to be attacked... that's common-sense, that the MOST USED OS will be most attacked by malware makers (more possible victims to snag is why, just like pickpockets operate in train/bus stations, malls, & crowded city streets rather than "crowds of 1 only").
FUNNIEST PART HERE IS THIS: ANDROID's being exploited RAMPANTLY by malware, ANDROID is the #1 most used OS on smartphones, & ANDROID IS A LINUX VARIANT (uses a Linux core) & proves my point on smartphones & that Linux too can & WILL be exploited by malware (though for years on
/. all you heard was FUD like "Linux = Secure" well... android shows otherwise!).Nonsense debunked multiple times already (especially against you APK). Linux is the most used in servers by far (almost 70% marketshare) and still it is not the most attacked (besides among all the links we know you're going to provide in the next post, none is a remote flaw nor is due to the linux kernel) and these servers are proportionnaly not pwned as much as windows user's PC. But you know this and are just trolling around. Same goes for Android: all the links you are going to provide will show that everytime a user had to voluntarily and counsciously install an application to get pwned.
"NASDAQ OMX's exchanges run on thousands of Linux-based servers" - by Anonymous Coward on Thursday January 05, @07:16PM (#38605114)
Takes 1,000's of those, but, a SQLServer 2005 + Windows Server 2003 failover cluster (not 1,000's of systems) runs NASDAQ's "Official Trade Data Dissemination System" & has for 8++ yrs. now... NASDAQ QMX only opened in October (remains to be seen IF it provides the non-stop 99.999% uptime the Windows System has yielded thusfar).
1. They're not doing the same job, so you cannot compare their numbers. 2. how is a "Windows Server 2003 failover cluster" different from "thousands of Linux-based servers" ? clue: not.
"Server Crashes, London Stock Exchange Dumps Windows. (Windows-based TradElect system brought the market to a standstill )" - by Anonymous Coward on Thursday January 05, @07:16PM (#38605114)

Re:market share v. reality
Throw 10,000 cnames pointed at a single machine serving up parking pages, and boom - 10,000 websites running IIS.
I hate to say RTFA, and maybe click on some of the links inside, but you should. One of the links is this one describing how they determine what is an active site.
TL/DR, it says that your 10,000 websites running IIS would be completely ignored by the Netcraft survey of "active" sites, they have an algorithm in there to completely ignore templated "parking" pages and the like.
