    I thought most people in the UK read the BBC News Website daily and rarely go to newspaper Web sites? I know I do and if I want to read other angles on a story, I go to a UK news aggregator like UK Google News or News Now. I never used The Times Website before it went paywall and I'm sure that's the case for almost everyone else out there too. It'll be interesting to see what happens when The Sun goes paywall - that demographic might not be smart enough to realise where the BBC/Google/NewsNow sites are :-)

    Ok so I don't object. Depending upon the site, these companies better come up with something that no one else can before I subscribe to them. Simple news? Oh no I can get it for free from so many other sources. Now considering sites like Washington Post, and Guardian allow other sites to mirror their content, why would I pay for the Washpost, if I could find a free site posting their very own content?

    Again not to be too critical, but it's the same with newspapers if you think about it. Should I buy today's New York Times? Hell no, I could go into the conference room, or get my co-workers' copy. Good luck to the news sites for trying to come up with a plan, it will work to some extent, but they'd be losing a hell of a lot of viewers to some extent as well.

    Personally, I think that the BBC News and NewsNow sites are both well layed out, work well, etc. Skimming either can be done in seconds and give you a good snapshot of what's going on in the world.

    Drilling down to an area of interest on either site is very clean, quick and easy too.

    I subscribe since I like /. and want to support it, however if you really do not like the adds use Mozilla Adblock. Works like a charm, for all sites not just /.

    This is not all that new. There is a UK based aggregatoin service called NewsNow that has been doing this sort of thing for years

    This reminds of when I was reading Scripting News a while back and Dave Winer was saying how great it was that Google indexed news when really this type of service is nothing new...

    ...and they also do it faster but Newsnow isn't nearly as big or as popular as Google. They also seem to aggregate more sources than google (slashdot is aggregated for example).

    I know this is off topic (sorry) , but anyone knows why this Slashdot posting has been available via NewsNow for a few hours but does not show up on the main /. site. Seems kind of silly we need to go somewhere else to read /. the latest /. postings.
