Re:Your right to point your camera
Just because the police were called to a scene it doesn't mean that the reason the people they are interacting with are the cause of the call.
For example there's this case in which a car probably backfired and caused the police to come out. The subjects were just enjoying a nice time when the police came knocking at their door. Not every interaction a police officer has during their shift ends up with someone getting a ticket or getting arrested.

Re:Fuck the money, what about the DEATHS?
It's because of shit like this that health boards are reluctant to give millions to IT departments: Convicted fraudster Swann freed

Re:Is this the 'Daily Nazi' or something?
Bill English just announced to New Zealand that if it weren't for those damned refugees, we'd all have pay increases!

Re:It depends...
I'm glad the common standards for safety make it safe to do 65 on the Turnpike both in mid summer at 90 degrees and in light snow sub-32.
Yeah, it'd make much more sense if the law said you should drive according to the conditions, and not always at the speed limit, wouldn't it?
Wait, it does?
Have you ever talked to a cop about speed limits?
Nope.
Do you know what the majority I've met have said about them?
No fucking idea. Don't particularly think it's relevant, because without some kind of citation, you're most likely making shit up to support your own case.
"We can't pull over everyone going this speed, so we look for people who are actually dangerous, whether they're swerving or going so far over that it's unsafe. You're not going to get pulled over going 5 above it."
Ah, the old "We won't ticket you for going 5 over the limit." Sorry, that's a load of shit.
Happens every fucking day in my country, most especially around holiday times, but it's not restricted to that.
Gops completely understand what's safe to drive on a given road at a given time
No, they don't. They're not traffic engineers.
they're trained more extensively than your average driver, both in recognizing dangerous behaviors in others and how to drive themselves.
This is not the same as being an expert in road design. They are not traffic engineers.
Have you ever seen a cop observing the speed limit with open road in front of them outside of a residential area?
Yup. Also saw a cop parked in a no parking zone right on a roundabout, making it really difficult for people to get through.
I've also seen a number of police officers prosecuted for speeding when not responding to an emergency (and not on official business).
Speed limits, as a hard limit for safety regardless as to the actual conditions present, are bullshit,
Possibly. You've presented nothing but opinion to back that up, though. Not a single fact.
and cops tacitly recognize that fact and use their near-immunity to get away with what you're defending so vehemently. Case closed.
No, not "Case closed." You're meant to say "FACT." That's how you make sure nobody can dispute it.
Cops demonstrating extra-legal behaviour is fairly typical. My boss breaks the law all the time, and he knows he does it, he also knows he'll get away with it because his boss is a multimillionaire and has friends in the various governmental departments who'll stop it. Doesn't mean it's legal, doesn't mean it's right.
I guess this is the part where someone should ask "If all the cops in town jumped off a bridge, would you?"
Frankly, I think someone should push you off a bridge, because you're an idiot.
Slow Down Cowboy!

Re:Pft
You do realize how commonly women are raped and abused by men...
See the Gender of Sexuality by Rutter and Schwartz, heterosexual women have a one-in-six chance of being raped in their lives, lesbian women have a one-in-THREE chance of being raped. It appears to be a fact: women are bigger rapists than men.
Women are also just as likely to engage in unreciprocated violence, being around 84% likely to use a weapon in an unreciprocated episode, resulting in something like 80% of those males requiring medical attention for serious injuries. (If you don't believe me, look it up.)
In a fight against a male, women actually have a significant advantage - speed. Strength is nothing if you can't hit your opponent, but should your opponent have training then your best bet is to run (or go for the eyes).
You are sexist and should educate yourself.

Re:Digital Domestic Abuse
A recent police study has shown that women are equally as responsible for domestic violence as men.
Serious question: got any other studies? Other countries? Larger sample sizes? More accurate statistics? You've cited one news article which goes on to cite one publication which reports on family violence deaths in one country. I don't doubt IPV goes both ways, but that source narrows to a specific aspect of domestic violence and doesn't fully support your argument.
-
Re:Maybe women could stop dating violent men...
What about abused men? Women are violent, too. In fact, women are responsible for violence in 50% of domestic violence cases. It's quite simple: it's not only men who are abusers. Say it out loud, and then say it to anybody who will listen. Reality is a bitch.
-
Re:women are stalkers too
You lose. Women are responsible for just as many cases of domestic violence as men are.

Re:Digital Domestic Abuse
Mom may have been emotionally or physically abused, the kid thinks it's normal and seeks it out themselves. I've also seen instances where mom was abused...
First, quit repeating the bullshit that women are the injured party. It is 50/50 not 100/0.
Second, my mother used to attack my father, then beat herself up and ring the police, pretending that he had attacked her.
This went on weekly for about four years, until he left her. Then she proceeded to invite him around, beat herself up, and ring the police.
I REMEMBER THIS OCCURRING.
She got into relationships and used that guy as a weapon against my father, including persuading one to attack him (skinny unskilled fuck vs a guy trained in combatu jiu jutsu who would get into pub fights every day - hence why the cops would believe her every time).
She's also threatened to stab me with a knife after throwing dinner plates at me, she used to regularly assault my brother and I with electrical cables, vacuum cleaner attachments, anything she could get a good swing with.
She still does it, too. After fleecing her mother for more than $15k, she fleeced my father (her ex-) for more than $3k, and now that she's employed refuses to pay it back because it's not her job to support him.
Women are just as capable of being abusers as men. Sadly, it's unknowledgable fools such as yourself who reinforce this idiotic - and readily exploitable - ideal that women are weak, frail creatures who need protecting from the big bullying men.
I've another post much nearer the top detailing my own experiences with an abusive woman (who stole significant amounts of money from me). Go read it.

Re:Digital Domestic Abuse
Stop trivializing the suffering of women that get beaten within a inch of their lives by brutal husbands.
Stop being an idiot and repeating this bullshit that abuse is women beaten up by their husbands. Stop using weasel words, too. "Brutal husbands," you fucking idiot.
Abuse is much more than physical violence - it's the manipulation and brutalisation of an individual by a partner, parent, other other.
A recent police study has shown that women are equally as responsible for domestic violence as men.

Re:in b4 idiots
This ridiculous stereotype that women are abused and men are abusers must stop. It is completely untrue, and simply presented to an accepting society who believe that women are weak and gentle creatures.
Speaking as someone whose first serious partner was an abusive woman - one who knew how to play the people around her - it took me years to gather the strength to get away from her.
She once threw one of her soft toys at me, aiming to hit me with it. When I threw it back, she ran from the room screaming (so she could be heard by others) that I'd promised to never hit her.
She would regularly punch me - just out of the blue - and call it "a love tap." She raped me hundreds of times - six times in a night, once. She was reading daddy-daughter incest porn. If I didn't want sex on a particular morning, she'd accuse me of being gay, or just keep going anyway.
Once upon a time, I commented that a friend of mine had bought her partner a nice watch. My ex- started screaming incoherently at me, then lowered her voice saying that it clearly meant I was in love with this friend, then raised her voice and started shrieking other crap at me. Of course, everyone around came running to her aid, not bothering to work out what was going on.
When I was studying from 8am until 5pm, and then working from 6pm until 9pm, she started demanding that I stop having lunch every day so I could buy her roses.
She then stole $1400 from my bank account.
She later stole my $2000 computer, CD player, a bed, and other assorted items, then sent me the bill for the computer.
That particular group of friends now believe that I used to smack her around a bit, and wouldn't even meet her halfway.
According to the local rape crisis group if those acts were committed against a woman, that is abuse.

Re:Might also fix their speeding
There's always this, where an off-duty cop grabbed someone by the throat and held him for a few seconds. He admitted it in court, and was let off without a conviction.
If it'd been a civilian, it would have been conviction-city, counselling, and various penalties, but no, this guy has suffered enough because PEOPLE MAKE FUN OF HIM when he goes to games, now.

Missing yacht near Australia, father says
Personally, I think he's being optimistic.
I would *like* to be optimistic.
- - -
The father of an 18-year-old on board the missing American schooner Nina believes it may be just days from making port in Australia.Ricky Wright's daughter, Danielle Wright, is one of seven people on board the 84-year-old wooden vessel, which was on its way to Australia from Opua in the Bay of Islands.
The crew have not been heard from since June 4, when Nina was about 370 nautical miles west-northwest New Zealand.
Mr Wright told news website KATC that he estimated Nina was currently just four or five days from making port in Australia.
He based this on a satellite phone message from the vessel which had only recently been received because it took weeks for the US government to authorise its release due to privacy laws.
The message said Nina had passed through two storms in early June and had damaged sails from high winds but was still making headway at 4 knots per hour.
"My prediction is they are making 3 knots, and the storm pushed them north of where they thought they would be," Mr Wright said.
"The main search area was south of where they are."

Re:Only in NZ - Actually I think it's bogus!
Yeah I read the article and I can't get all the bits of the story to fit together properly.
For this story to be 100% true as told we need to make some assumptions.
Assumption 1). ONE computer system needs to have control of the lights, door locks and registers.- or each of the separate computer systems together are coordinated and have control of the above items.
Assumption 2). The self-checkout registers were on and were pre-set to auto-start at a given time of day or "ready-to-go" state even though they were "cashed up" at the end of the previous day. - (read cash removed and tallied at the end of the previous day).
Assumption 2.1). The self-checkout registers have the ability to log on in the morning with no manager authorisation including connecting to the bank for the EFT/Credit machines.
Assumption 3. As NZ was an early adopter for EFTPOS so no one tried to pay with cash and expect change before someone tried to buy alcohol.Reasoning 1). Unlikely. - More likely given the type of shop it is - the duty manager would have to do all of the above manually. Besides the duty manager would need to select what registers would be on at the beginning of the day.
Reasoning 2). No cash would be left in the machines overnight. - Therefore it's More than likely the machines turned off after cashing up was complete.
Reasoning 2.1). Again because the manager would select which registers would be active during the day I doubt the registers would be setup to do this automatically.
Reasoning 3). - Possible but unlikely.I think the real story is something like, legislation prevents the shop opening on "Good Friday".
See: http://www.odt.co.nz/your-town/wanaka/157571/businesses-defy-easter-law-againMore likely than the above: One manager figures he's being clever by not having the shop staffed and blaming it on a computer glitch.

Google=no privacy
Google and privacy. You might want to check out this, this, this, or this. People also forget that the majority of the world population is not living in the USA. US agencies are allowed to spy on non-US citizens as they like, although this is usually not emphasized for diplomatic reasons. Thus, not only terrorists and wrongdoers should be concerned about their privacy...unless Schmidt thinks that all non-US citizens are terrorists. Foreign governments should actually be much more concerned about Google than they seem to be, but as far as I know only former French president Chirac was concerned about Google and as a politician he turned out to be a wrongdoer, of course. LOL
You can make scroogle your search engine of choice although we all know that it helps less than some people might expect, because normally configured browsers leak a lot of information.

Re:Why is this modded Funny?
Did they take away his earnings? He apparently was paid $36,174NZ for doing it....so that's a rather tidy profit.
http://www.odt.co.nz/news/national/13407/teen-escapes-conviction-cyber-offences
Malice might not be a motive, but greed could be one. Being one who follows NZ law cases on a regular basis, I'm rather far from impressed with it (like the cop getting out after 2 years for his part in a pack rape). -

Since posting the story, I've found a better link to the Otago Daily Times. The story there has a rather good picture of the ball with the camera in it.
Also, here's a link to the Otago Polytechnic.
