Re:Good, clean, free.
On the other hand, the question is about windows. Here's the best freeware list I've found, taken off of the neowin.net forums. These are not guaranteed Clean, but most of them are. Also, you might want to check tinyapps.org, which specializes in SMALL apps (usually not enough space for ad/spyware).

Re:Slashvertisement?
Give me a break
... where do the disclaimers stop? I mean, the software's being given away for free for non-commercial use, and I think it's of interest to other techies. Notice I didn't submit anonymously.
And don't start spouting "open-source this, open-source that" to me ... I do my bit there as well. But noone cares about that stuff, so why bother talking about it instead of stuff I think is fun? -
Re:WooHoo!!!
So OpenFx is not good enough for you?

Re:3D Artists?I'll point people at this thread where much the same discussion was going on.
For windows, there is the very cool (and GPL'd)OpenFX that will server as a worthwhile inroduction to 3D. It has the added benefit of working with WINE. For Linux, the k-3d project appears to be moving along nicely (and despite the K in the name, it is a GTK+ app).
But I agree with lots of people here, this is another area that open source has a ways to go.
For non-Free(libre) software you can use Moray and POV-Ray for a nice cheap modeler / rendering combo. You can also pull down the BMRT tools from exluna, used properly they produce beautiful renderings, many people agree that they do a much better job than POV-Ray.

Re:Artists?
I've used OpenFX to edit and throw together some 3d models for a demo, grabbing them off of various modelling sites from free directories, customizing them (mostly cutting 95% of the detail out - I was going for real time 3d) and then exporting them in an ascii format that I could cobble together a reader for from scratch. I have a small (0.5 of a drafting course) amount of experience with AutoCAD. This was SO easy! And the program had a load of other features I didn't even touch. Now, I've never used Blender, so I don't know how it compares. Have you looked at OpenFX?

Re:Great!Have you checked out OpenFX?
It seems nice by the web-page, but I haven't taken a look into it yet. Would like to hear some opinions though.
