Re: Dont do anyone any favors
But it should not be possible to just remove the responsibility of the father without providing a second person that steps in.
Why? I see no reason whatsoever that a single parent (with the necessary means) should not be able to have a child, with sole custody and parental rights and responsibilities, via artificial insemination. It's legal (though uncommon) for a single parent to adopt a child with the same end result(*), so why not this?

Re:Lie-fest from the NSA
I had hoped that 60 minutes would do an insightful - investigation into NSA. What I heard from so-called reporter John Miller was a PR fluff piece that one would expect as a former national spokesman for the FBI.
It's perfectly in line with what famous linguist Noam Chomsky told us about the media decades ago. ABC and 60 minutes are some of the most blatantly bullshit of the mainstream media, rivaling Fox News. From airing things like "D is for Dad and Dumb" -- the weekend of father's day?, to writing hit-pieces about human rights websites claiming coordinated harassment of Anita Sarkeesian while ignoring her blatant confirmation bias and clear evidence of victim-farming con artistry, it's clear they do not present an objective or unbiased news source. It's also clear ABC are intentionally deceptive and seem to be harboring and furthering a sexist anti-male agenda.
It's quite strange -- When I was younger I had assumed they were good; 60min was what grown-ups watched... right? It would be some kind of tin-foil-hatter conspiracy theory to think they weren't trustworthy news sources... right? Nope. Apparently Chomsky knew what he was talking about, and it applies now more than ever.

Re:sort of
The "really inexpensive" part was what I thought was humourous. "costs less than a professional DSLR camera". Math is fun!
So the "best" DSLR right now according to reviews is the CanonEOS-1D X which can be had for ~$5500. Divide that by 48 because that's how many pi complete devices they used and we get $114.58. The Pi that they used was the $35 unit because they needed Ethernet. They also had a $30 camera and a $33 PiFace display on each. We're up to $98... oh wait, they used preloaded SD cards at $13 a pop, and we're up to $111 with no power supply. Fine, lets say that with bulk prices we get PS from the goddamn Loch Ness Monster for three fiddy a piece. Bam, we've hit or target. Or at least we would if we didn't have to factor in networking components, a custom "laser cut" frame, or 0.5km of cable and a days worth of time to crimp ninety six RJ45 plugs.
The TL:DR point is to stop giving us meaningless indicators of how much some shit costs. Just tell us a number. Did you know that this project supposedly costs less than the average trade in value of a 2005 Honda Accord? ($5775) It costs sufficiently less than giving birth to a child ($8802) It even is less than the cost of eating a donut a day for thirty years? ($5962.50 @ $0.50 ea plus 6% sales tax) and that doesn't even factor in the added costs of type 2 diabetes!
So just tell us how much it costs. Everything else is just wasting our time. My apologies if you actually read through my entire post.

Re:Yeah
Don't be a nitwit.
Google is your friend. That page links here, and here's the damn "reputable peer reviewed Scientific Journal".
And just so you know, Contrary to what the mainstream media would have you believe, Men's Rights Advocacy isn't for hate-mongers, its memebers are frequently also Women's Rights Activists, and many vocal members are Women. It's actually the opposition that's hateful. The feminists have a majority voice in media and politics right now, so I don't blame you if you adopt their easy to believe lies without wondering why they're not based on any science, but untestable opinionated ideas instead...Interestingly, ABC also brought us D is for Dad and Dumb" the weekend of this past Father's Day... Wha? But isn't that kind of... anti-men? You wouldn't have a segment like that on mother's day eh? Interesting that I made this comment on the 20/20 article page about the "manosphere", and provided a link to the source of some of their material that proves that they were purposefully factually wrong about A Voice for Men -- They cited "hate speech" that's an example of will get you banned...
Protected by the anonymity of the Internet, men feel free to post hateful and violent comments. Posts such as "I really wouldn't mind shooting a [expletive] dead in the face, they are evil, all of them," and "Women are the natural enemies of men" are commonplace on sites like "A Voice for Men," a Manosphere blog run by Paul Elam.
Search that quote, the page it appears on AVFM is here, where he says this about that comment:
No Redpill, fuck this kind of post. It has been sent to the trash where it belongs, and I am willing to do the same with your username if you ever post this kind of garbage to my website again.
As expected, all of the comments that demonstrate the ABC article as biased and factually wrong have been deleted from it.
Oh, but this is Slashdot, so of course you and the mods can think for your selves, eh? You don't need help "tracking" any information "origin to its roots".
+1 redundant please, and thank you.

Re:WTF?
So a child's life is less important to you then a few minutes of missing sleep?
"Every 40 seconds in the United States, a child becomes missing or is abducted".
Let me know when sleep becomes more important to you than every single one of those childrens' lives, so I can laugh heartily at you.
