The working client GPL first realease was revealed in may 2000. The first connection tries under linux were decisives, and lot of people passed a bill the project. Today, the peng for aol code client is tottally stable. Peng uses, in order to connect, tun/tap & ppp from kernel 2.4 supported by all linux distributions peripherals fonctionnality About 10 000 persons in Europe use this software, is a figure which amounts to the double of the previous version. So Aol is avaible under Linux.

    There is the PengAol project where they have created a *working* client to access aol. the downside is that it's all in french and appears to only work in france (I've never gotten it to work). Maybe you can try your luck and/or donate some code to the project.

    aohell, which requires a proprietary client that isn't even available for any sane OS.

    Yes, AOL runs on Linux. But it isn't AOL's fault neither ;-)

    This has all been done years ago. Check out www.pengaol.org it's in french, but there is an english version also. PengAOL is under active development. There are a few others that were under development a few years ago, but are no longer around. There is not much as far as an interface to aol areas yet cause would need to interpret FDO script language, but they will allow you to establish an internet connection with your aol account from linux.
