This means I actually spend my time in line making fun of the products they're trying to get me to impulse buy, especially at walmart (they shove a ton of 'as seen on tv' crap right there). When I have time to consider the pros and cons of a product and research the alternatives in all the various magazines on display there, it's no longer an impulse.

Plus when there's a human at the scanner all day they know exactly when it gets dirty and clean it right then, keeps people from doing the 'I don't understand why it won't scan through this dried on milk' thing. I used to be a cashier, just taught me how stupid humanity is.

//how can an old lady lift a box of dried milk into her cart in the store and onto the conveyer, but not lift it off the cashier station when she's bought it?

The tubes are clogged and I'm not getting my internets. Now the consoles stole all my power and stood by wasting!

This isn't the first time power being wasted has been an issue, but at least these consoles have a stand-by mode, because people don't like turning them off. Looking here, I have a laptop running right beside me just for aim, tell me that isn't a waste of power and a second monitor that I use right now just to shove itunes onto. The biggest way to conserve power is to convince people that power needs to be conserved, otherwise I'll just keep wasting it. I've never had an issue with not getting enough power, just keep paying the bills and it keeps flowing. And as far as cost, the numbers are really low when it comes down individually, you have to multiply by populations to get the numbers to a size that makes you go wow. A couple cents to a dollar a month, why do I care about that wastage from my console?

And now I'm able to myspace from anywhere and do all kinds of extra stuff with my myspace that I just don't give a rats ass about, so umm yeah... sign me up?

Think of all the paper cuts! Rebinding a book, that's gotta take a bunch of hammers and crazy tools for stretching out the leather and nailing it on the book, all too dangerous for PWG (pasty white guy) in the basement. Plus typing, clicking and lifting mountain dew hardly trains you for that sort of work, he'd have to start on small books, maybe photo albums before being able to make it up to enchanted books that magically increase your skill.

Come to think of it, there should be a book binding skill tree and librarian quest in the game, there are already book mercahnts in the game, you can work your way up through them, increase your mercantile skills as well... come on modders!

  19. Re:Well there's a big difference on Faulty Chips Might Just be 'Good Enough' · · Score: 2, Interesting

The one application that really matters is in A/D and D/A conversion. In D/A conversion the signal for each bit goes into basically a weighted summing amplifier, each bit goes through different valued resistors in order to give it a different weighting based on it's bit significance. If each one of these resistors are off by 5%, across multiple ones you get an addition of the error. Soon enough your digital signal representing 10v is now saying 12 volts or 15 volts. A/D circuits are actually comprised of D/A circuits as well. Very bad stuff in high precision audio work or signal sampling. Military grade digital readings of radar could lead to you seeing extra planes or missiles on the horizon just because your resistor values weren't correct.
