Re:Useless summaryPenumbra Official Site
Penumbra Wiki Quote from wikipedia:The game's main focus is on exploration and classic adventure game object interaction: examining and collecting objects and using them to solve puzzles.

Enforcing artificial scarcity is a poor strategy
To me, DRM is about two things. First it's about making sure that people don't actually have control over the things they've ostensibly bought. The Amazon debacle is a prime example of this.
Secondly, it's about trying to create artificial scarcity, which seems to me to be all the wrong strategy.
And, on a different note, I don't think the low prices you're seeing are because of DRM. I think you're seeing them because developing good games shouldn't actually take the gobs of money that it's currently fashionable to throw at the problem. I know of several indie games that seem to be doing OK for themselves completely in the absence of DRM. Word of Goo, and The Penumbra Series.

Re:DirectX
Are there any 3D games for Linux that don't look like Tron?
Try Savage 2. A new game by the same company, Heroes of Newerth, is under development-I'm participating in the beta, and the linux client works beautifully. The three Penumbra games also have linux clients.

Re:System Shock
I've never, ever been scared and immersed while playing a game like I was in SS or SS2.
Try Penumbra.

Re:Here, have some criticism
Linux FAILS on the desktop except in specific cases where a user has it installed by someone technically proficient or is technically proficient themselves.
The same is true for Windows and Macs. Dare you deny it? My wife got me a t-shirt to wear to family gatherings that says, "No, I will not fix your computer." because of all the questions anyone 'technically proficient' gets. Macs are better than Windows, but what do they call those people at the Apple stores? "Geniuses"?
Your other complaints have nothing to do with Linux per se and apply more to the environment it finds itself in. Frankly, I haven't run into the need for commercial Linux software so far (aside from some games), the FOSS stuff works for me. As to Linux games, you have half a point - but as Sturgeon's Law says, "Ninety percent of everything is crap." There are good games for Linux (and those are just commercial ones) but how much shovelware do you see for Windows? Even in the FOSS games, there are good ones, too. My kids love playing plenty of them, and even I enjoy a good game of bzflag now and then.

Independent games
Speaking of independent games... The last decent horror game I played was from a small developer. Check out Penumbra. There are three games in the series. Really great atmosphere and creative use of physics. On top of that, they all have Linux versions. You can check out demos at http://www.penumbragame.com/
I see the second game at Gamestop sometimes.
