Come on the Wiki on Trust Metrics Evaluation
I just set up a wiki on trust metrics evaluation.
The goal of this project is to review, understand, code and compare on same data all the trust metrics proposed so far.
I'm a PhD student and this is my phd research proposal (Trust-aware Decentralized Recommender Systems) and it is very related to all this concerns (trust, reputation, decentralization, blogs, recommender system, ...)
Personally I think the more promising path to follow is FOAF (Friend Of A Friend) format (see the project blog). There are also 2 extensions (1) (2) to incorporate trust into FOAF files.
By the way, here is my foaf file. You can add me to your "knows" list if you like.
Ok, so now you can check the wiki on trust metrics evaluation and add anything you think should be there and there isn't.
Please, note that I have just opened the wiki and I still have some problem with the installation (there are 2 conflicting python installations and I'm not root of the machine) but the basic functionalities are working. Hope to continue the discussion on the wiki! Paolo -
Re:What's a Soccer Mom? [Re:The Pseudo Pro-Childre
A "Soccer Mom" is a somewhat derogatory term for suburban stay-at-home mothers that drive thier children around in a mini-van to soccer practice, and typify the suburban well-to-do lifestyle. That's my best shot at a description for you.

The cracker.
Hi. I wrote the RUR-14 distributed cracking client. I'd like to dispell some common misconceptions. - the client uses very few CPU cycles. I have it running on a P100, and it only takes about 20% of the CPU. it is very heavy on bandwith usage. on that same P100, the network driver is using ver 60% of the CPU. - this is only a game. - ther WILL be a linux client. either this weekend or monday!! any other questions? join the effort! http://www.perceive.net/

Re:(picks jaw up off the floor)
personally, I think that if they are going to charge people license fees, they need to then reimburse all of us that spent time inputting information into thier database. I know I added well over 200 CDs to CDDB when it first got started. Let's see, approximately 5 minutes per CD to enter the data (being on the very conservative side)... that's 16 2/3 hours of my time that I spent. and at the rate I charge for freelance work (which I would classify this as), it looks like they owe me about $840. pay up.

I can tell you that when I get less than 7 hours per night I have a hard time remembering things, and I feel like a zombie. THAT is realistic.

Re:What about using XML/XSL?
I have done the same thing, but I would really like to be able to have better pagination options than those provided in HTML.
I would LOVE to be able to take my XML datasets, and convert them using XSLT into a PDF somehow.
anyone know how? .e.

Re:Don't you love euphamisms?
I totally agree. Me and my wife decided that one income IS enough. in fact, taking into account daycare, gasoline, business clothes, etc, we were only making a couple hundred bucks a month by her working. So now she is a stay at home mom, the house runs smoothly, we have more time for the kids in general, and life is good.

Re:Cool!
Glad it works for you. I have written to my congressman MANY times. Not once have I received any sort of reply. This includes writing via dead trees, and email. The only thing I have ever received back is an auto-reply via email. All of my letters have been extremely civil, have stated my point, have mentioned that I am one of thier consitituents. Seems to me that there should be some much simpler way to let your congressdope know your view.

Agora
A company in Lousville, KY [full disclosure: I worked for thier previous incarnation], has been working on this with great success for quite a long time. Agora Interactive the system they call "GATE" also includes video conferencing in the system.
They also developed a virtual reality game based on a doom/quake-like engine using the iGlasses, a standard arcade box, and a Pentium 133.
Unfortunately, look like they filled for Chapter 11 (reorganization) in January.

Re:People won't buy HDTV anyway
I have to disagree. the only people in my family that actually really CARE about the difference in quality between VHS and DVD is my father and I. My wife, daughter, mother, sister, et al don't care. They mainly complain about the "black bars" at the top and bottom of the screen. Don't even bother to try to explain aspect ratios to them. The only draw to DVD that my wife sees is the "extra content".
What matters is not if they notice a difference, it's if they really care.

Sad...
one simple comment. I find it quite sad tat the majority of the posts have absolutely nothing to do with solving the security problem that Undernet is facing. An even worse reflection on the moderation system at slashdot is that fact the the few posts about the issue were not moderated up, and the others down.
Ahh for some moderation points today. .e.

Shutterfly
I *HIGHLY* reccommend Shutterfly. I have been using them for a few months now. They have developed about 5 rolls of film for me, and I've also uploaded many digitally-created drawings & CGI to them, and had them all printed to 4x6's, and/or 8x10s. the quality is superb, service is excellent (they answer email in the same day), and the website is quite easy to use.
You can upload directly though the browser, so it is quite platform independent.
35mm Film development is free, they even pay to ship the roll there, and to send you the negatives back.

Re:Wow.
geez. will this not end? We have a very simple system. a machine looks at the votes. the machine is not biased. the machine counts only votes that are absolutely a positive vote. there is no question about this fact. Unfortunately, some people are unable to read directions, and then bitch about thier own incompetence. It amazes me that these people are able to drive cars, but can't seem to puch out the right hole.

Re:bk2site
I also use a similar program written in perl for win32, which takes care of IE bookmarks. You can get it here. it will also create a yahoo-style site. As for organization, I have a terrible habit of saving anything that looks remotely interesting, so my bookmarks have recently passed the 700 mark. I use categories similar to yahoo, which seem to work quite well. I also use the Links bar for my daily/weekly sites, as someone else has suggested. Hopefully in the near future I will have a search feature for my yahoo interface.

Re:Problem is lack of trust
Then it seems to me that management should concentrate on hiring good help, rather than coming up with processes that control the bad help. Seems that having good people working is MUCH more productive than covering up the fact that your people suck. Also sounds like because they continue to use bad help, that in the long run it would be cheaper to pay the good help more, and raise the amount paid to entice more help. it would cut out the job of the "process manager" and would cut the need to fix the bad people's mistakes. Sounds like a vicious cycle to me. Maybe some managers should rethink and find more efficient ways to do thier job, even to the end of putting themselves out of a job. waste not want not.
