Re: Embracing a Cancer?
You know nothing of Windows Nanoserver it seems.
Does anybody really know anything about it? And isn't that the problem?

Re:Hack your own car
It is depressing how the TCP design standardized hostfiles on Windows, Unix, Apple and derivatives so that hostnames can be blocked, but we're running into intentional crippling
1) No wildcards. You have to know all the domains and subdomains in advance
2) No whitelist-only setup (there are those of us dedicated enough to use block everything and approve every site upon examination --proof? NoScript)
3) No obligation for the OS to obey you, given how Microsoft's Windows 10 setup ignores inconvenient blocks in the guise of protection against Virus meddling.
4) No IP-specific redirection or blocking. This would be helpful to protect us from Chinese and Russian address ranges. When malware (including Microsoft) bypasses DNS with known hardcoded IPs, it's game over. New Zero Day IPs are an issue. We can use external routing hardware to block (and IPs will change anyway) but that hardware isn't home-friendly even if you know enough to use DD-WRT, Pi or commercial hardware. -
LOL - wrong: Only 4 Windows Update fool
See my subject line above: It's FACT not your 'fake news' misleading disinformation bs https://www.petri.com/windows-10-ignoring-hosts-file-specific-name-resolution/ dumbass!
* MS only blocks hosts from working on WINDOWS UPDATE SERVER ADDRESSES (host-domain names hardcoded in the dnsapi.dll slower broken w/ large hosts files usermode dnscache service - stop it, save cpu cycles/RAM/other I-O wasted on that broken junk (Linux has no such issue mind you) as well as electric power too you pay for & cache instead kernelmode to kernelmode (no context switch speedhit to usermode like dnsapi.dll) using the OS' diskcache to IP stack... win/win/win).
APK
P.S.=> Always a pleasure shooting your ass down easily, Not so "mighty" martian (you're stupid & weak - period)... apk

You f'd up & proof quoted
"You don't know shit about Win10, do you? It's *hard coded* to bypass anything in the Hosts file." -
You stupid shit "IWantMoreSpamPlease" - learn to READ: WINDOWS UPDATE ADDRESSES only are bypassed, STUPID (in the faulty w/ large hosts files dnsapi.dll - which IS the slower usermode broken stupidly fixed size dnscache service stupid).
* That's RIGHT from the article you cited dumbass - Reread it, in fact, I invite ANYONE to do so to see how fucking STUPID you are liar https://www.petri.com/windows-10-ignoring-hosts-file-specific-name-resolution/ you RIDICULOUS STOOGE!
APK
P.S.=> Unbelievable, totally unbelieveable what this site has fallen to with MORONS like yourself spouting falsehoods - & what I do know FOR A FACT is nobody willingly bought into Windows 10 (only fools use it to be spied on via telemetry or "FREE" upgrades because they couldn't GIVE IT AWAY (nobody wanted it))... apk

Re:AdBlock = inferior + 'souled-out' vs. hosts
You don't know shit about Win10, do you?
It's *hard coded* to bypass anything in the Hosts file.
https://www.petri.com/windows-...So your "ad blocker" ain't gonna work.

Re:This has been a thing for a long time
Are you ok with being wrong all the time. I mean you just stated your belief with such conviction while at the same time being so completely wrong. I mean this has been a thing for almost 20 years. (since at least 2000, not sure about NT4)

Re:Sync
Solved.
https://www.petri.com/forums/f...
I ran into similar issues with DCs running as a VM under Hyper-V. It was a long time ago when 2008 (non-R2 edition) was first released. But yeah, no problem since then as all DCs have internet connectivity to poll the NTP server.

Re:This is pretty common.
So you are bragging you are running Linux which has more vulnerabilities than Windows while being "forced" to run Windows for games? Aww poor baby!
Shellshock, Heartbleed, the assraping of Linux is just starting and its gonna get a HELL of a lot worse. While MSFT has had a big ass bullseye painted on them for years to drive them to increase their defenses Linux has been coasting on security by obscurity, well those days are over friend. Android is getting pounded by nasties and Linux is just getting beaten up as you can see and another Shellshock on the way there are even calls for a security audit in light of the constant pounding its gotten.
Frankly the FOSSie faction should be getting scared right about now, MSFT has been hardening their OS and getting their lessons in a war with the malware writers, now you have Low Rights Mode, ASLR and DEP, Secure Boot, Windows isn't the easy target anymore....Linux is. Between the coasting on security by obscurity, an OS made up of teeny tiny fiefdoms that don't collaborate or care, and oh yeah...a new spreading mess known as Systemd spreading tendrils in more and more critical systems while being run by a guy that blogs such "wisdom" as "can't get systemd running on ARM, shipping it anyway" the low hanging fruit? Its Linux and Android.
So get ready for it, because it looks like in less than 24 months you'll be posting "I HAVE to run Linux on one system for a program I need, the rest are running Windows". And when that day comes? You can thank Torvalds and all the other arrogant old guys that can't see beyond their own little gardens that have let Linux become a weak walled buggy mess.
