Phantasy Star 1
I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but Sega is doing a Phantasy Star 1 remake.
Check out the screenshots..
I'm a huge Phantasy Star nerd (I own the Japanese PS1 remake for Mega Drive! Shoot me.), so I guess I'm buying a playstation 2 if this thing ever comes to the states. -
Re:No Phantasy Star?
IMAO, Phantasy Star 1 was the ONLY SMS game worth having... and yes, I had both the real thing and now the emulator.
Ahh, how I wish I could bring myself to play through the series again.
It's not a question of 'bring yourself'! I have to actively resist restarting the quests sometimes. (except for... well, see below)
Ever since Naka ruined it with the horror that is Not-Phantasy Star Online, I can't bear to even think about Algo.
Heh, PS3 almost ruined it for me. THAT is the game I had to force myself to play through. I'm glad it didn't; PS4 was one of the best RPGs of the 16-bit era.
I still want to know where they got the name "Baya Mahlay" for the hill over which Lassic's castle floated. It just sounds so perfect.
Oh, and read this and LYAO.

The Phantasy Star pages - all you need to know about the series. There are more PS games than you know about.

Re:What I'm waiting for...
Hook my IIIc up with a modem, and let me play
Phantasy Star Online on my way to work... -
Phantasy Star !
I played Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System back in the late 80s. It was, and still is one of the best RPGs ever. I played during the summer of '88 for 14 days straight, 20 hours a day.
That's right, only 4 hours a day for food, sleep and toilet breaks.
I finished the damn game, killing Lassic and Darkfalz and I hadn't even reached full levels on Myau, Odin and Noah when I did it.
I still play the game once in a while using a SMS emulator. The music, graphics and story line bring me back to that summer everytime I play it... -
Snail maze in original Sega Master SystemI can't remmeber the key sequence, but if you powered on the original SMS console without a game cartridge and quickly entered a sequence on the controller you'd get this maze and a timer would begin. You'd have to navigate a snail through the maze before the time ran out. I even liked the cheezey tune it played (anyone have a WAV of it lying around?).
I spent more time in that stupid maze game than some of the games I bought (excepting Phantasy Star -- my all time favorite console game to date).

So did I...
Even though I haven't touched a Phantasy Star since II, the first two were so good and so far ahead of their time that I can't help but think highly of the entire series. For anyone who hasn't experienced the majesty that is Phantasy Star, there's a pretty good page with screen shots, tips and spoilers of all the games at The Phantasy Star Pages.
