HHG movie - something for everyone
what the BBC is saying here:
for non-fans, it's a fun romp with some gags and plenty of fun effect to look at. ooh! a cute, crazy little robot! buy the plushie!
for those that are already fans of the books (and whatnot) you're going to hate it with a passion! but come back twice - there's more in jokes that you missed the first time because you were crying in your popcorn over the sheer bloody stupidity of it all. and look! there's douglas adams' nose! again!
(from TFA: "There are tons of things crammed in there. Basically if we needed a prop or a name for something we just used the original material as a reference.")
it seems to me that, in reality, when they needed a prop or something to fill in the space, they used bits of the author's corpse, and the money-grubbing whores that are his surviving family.

Re:Mod parent down. Also note that his review is suspiciously similar to this one that was posted on Slashdot a while back. Coincidence?
That aside, the review I mentioned above is worth attention. If you're already familiar with the story then I would highly recommend reading this particular review. It's a lot more than just an "it sucks" review, it's a totally damning "it sucks" review with specific evidence to back up his opinion. I'm definitely *not* going to see this movie in the theater. Maybe I'll rent it. Maybe.

Still Funny?
Did you delete most of the jokes, as MJ Simpson says? If he hates the movie so much, why will I (who loved the books, reading each of them when they were originally published in hardcover) love the movie?

Re:If..
If more films are made how will the refrences to God (The babelfish entry) and God's message to his creation be handled? In the current politically correct world will these be dropped or edited to refrence something different? It's simple.
They don't put them in there, like you said. The babel fish scene was cut (http://planetmagrathea.com/notinthefilm.html -
Re:One question

Re:You forgot the last line...To go along with that gem of a quote, I must point out: MJ Simpson wrote a review of this movie before he saw the pre-screening, and I sh!t you not, he said:
"Folks, take it from me: this movie is going to rock."
It's the last sentence of his review on This page.

Re:Anyone who says...
couple of things...
"wear gown"
"put all in thing"
"put thing in gown"
unlimited inventory.
and the guy's douglas adams' fucking biographer for christsakes. of course his review smacks of idolatry. i'd be amazed if it didn't so smack.

Obviously an early design from MagratheaThey just didn't design the mould properly. If we inspect closer, you'll see a big circle with an alien "M" in it for the trademark
.In separate news, I would be willing to expect that someone will point out that a planetoid like this little dude does not form in the 'interstellar void' where it is expected to be nicely spherical. This sucker grew up exposed to some mondo tides, so it's reasonable to assume that while the crust may have cooled significantly, the core may look like a kneaded bowl of bread dough, and be nice and toasty. Makes sense that there is a pressure ridge of crust all the way around it. Hey- this planet has a pressure ridge of crust too ! Just worn down and cracked all over the place...

Planet Magrathea
Checkout Planet Magrathea for a decent repository of HHGTTG news - its run by MJ Simpson, arguably the best source of Douglas Adams info around (including, obviously, info about the upcoming film). Apparently there is a whole lot more material coming out on Tuesday.
And to think I owned that domain 4 years ago... -
Re:this is awesome
They are not currently offering it in 5.1, it was mastered in 5.1 and downmixed to 2-channel. The 5.1 version will come out next year on DVD-Audio/hybrid.
Look Here for lots of news, including some stuff about the 5.1 version.
