Re:Pretty much never?
I think something like TPB model is there to stay, if necessary they'll just move it to be a TOR onion site, still centralized but anonymous. Not the content itself as that'd be sloooow, just the site itself.
That would cut deep into its traffic.
Too complex. Too geek. Planet Peer - The anonymous networking community
There are many people who shy away from things like Freenet because they believe they are toxic. Something that might bring the Special Victims Unit to their door.
The Pirate Bay is as deep into the shadows as most are willing to go.

Re:Worrisome...
"Trojan Generic..." Yeah, right. That's not a trojan sig that the antivirus recognized, it's just a heuristic that tags possible malware. Only 3 out of 32 antivirus programs complain. The message "Suspicious Self Modifying File" indicates that it's probably just because they used an uncommon packer.
OFFsystem sez:
That is a false positive. We are still trying to figure out how to tell them about it.

So basically the old freenet wasn't anon at all?
So this means that all this time people thought they were safe and now to be safe you have to pick who you share with?
How the hell is that going to happen? So you get on a e-mail list and find some "buddies" to share with. How do you know who they are? Are they "enforcers" or spys? How do you know?
Then you find a group of people who are sharing, how do you know there ain't a spy among them?
Then you have only a few people to share with and since everyone is splitting off the main sharing network, who gives a crap if this thing can "scale"? There's nothing to scale to, just 10 people sharing in a group, big deal.
Why not just use SFTP with your "trusted friends"????
This is the most lame thing I have ever seen in P2P!
The old way it worked was better, and more safe why the hell change it?
What happened? That's the important news!
What's wrong with things like "MUTE" P2P ? http://www.planetpeer.de/wiki/index.php -
Open wireless access and filesharing you are a ISP
So it's now confirmed that everyone has ISP status if they are just passing packets!
So open up your wireless access point!
Use it for denyability when filesharing!
This is great for filesharing programs that pass packets "automatically and temporarily" as part of their protocol (always in proxy mode) such as MUTE http://www.planetpeer.de/wiki/index.php (info link).
It's too bad it's only U.S. District Court and not from an appeal.
"When an ISP automatically and temporarily stores data without human intervention so that the system can operate and transmit data to its users, the necessary element of volition (willful intent to infringe) is missing," the court said. -
Everyone should try Anonymous P2Ping
Wikipedia has a great Wiki on the subject. There is also a Forum called Planet Peer which is all about Anonymous P2P. Both of these are great starting points for checking out this supposed "third generation" of P2Ping.
Some of the Wiki is inaccurate or old. Basically, these revolutionary programs hide your IP address, encrypt all data transfers, and route all information through several middle-men. This effectively thwarts the RIAA (or anyone else for that matter) from identifying who is sending what. The different programs use different methods. Most of the networks are small, but they are all growing.
For a start, try Ants.
Ignore the comment on Wiki saying "the Recording Industry Association of America has successfully tracked and threatened to sue some users on non-anonymous P2P networks." This was a long time ago on an old and flawed program in Japan. Anonymous P2Ping has come a long way since then. Give it a try. -

Be safe, use a MUTE client
Much safer, these people have been working on this a long time.
Many clients, downloads:

or
http://mute-net.sourceforge.net/ -
Rodi - an alternative to BitTorrent?
Found this on Planet Peer: http://board.planetpeer.de/index.php/topic,829.0.
h tml Rodi is a new developmental P2P network that is currently in testing. What makes Rodi unique? Many features, such as IP-spoofing for anonymity and packet-mimicking, so the P2P traffic can appear as one of many different internet traffic patterns - such as HTTP, FTP, etc - that are less likely to get blocked or throttled by an ISP's packet shaping. Unlike traditional proxied (very slow) anonymous networks (Freenet, Mute, Ants, Winny, etc) the use of IP spoofing can allow high-speed full-bandwidth downloads while keeping the uploader's true IP address hidden from the downloader. -
check out my project - Rodiif you are able to spoof IP address like in Univ. corporate LANs Rodi is a way to go. see http://larytet.sourceforge.net/btRat.shtml
General anonymity application look also http://www.anonymous-p2p.org/rodi.html http://board.planetpeer.de/index.php is anothe place

Go anonymous and shove it in their face!
Go with MUTE and they can't stop you!
Technology that protects your privacy.
Now with three clients for all platforms.
Free, GNU, Open Source and a growing network.
