Re:Is this good news.
Most devices can't. This is why I'm asking. Googling a little, revels IPhone can't act as a Wireless access point by default. http://www.podcastalley.com/forum/showthread.php?t=138655 http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone-modifications/iphone-as-a-wifi-access-point-router-19674.html

Re:Firefox vs. IEMany folks also disable the BITS service because of the process overhead it chews up.

I have heard of a good windows based aggregator
It's called WinPodder which I heard about on the Daily Breakfast. I have not personally tried it as I am comfortable with iTunes.
I usually find my podcasts on iTunes, but occasionally use Podcast Alley to search for topics I like. Listen to a few and unsubscribe from the bad ones.
I like the PC Gamer Podcast and am still trying out the PSP podcasts from PG Revolution not 100% sold on it yet, but it has held my interest for a few weeks now. -
A good news podcast
I like Free Talk Live: http://www.freetalklive.com/ . They make the show available in different formats, you can download show archives in BitTorrents, you can discuss the show on their forum or on their wiki, and it's all free. For quite a while they were in the top three political podcasts according to PodCast Alley http://www.podcastalley.com/ *happy listening* -lois

Scott Sigler (and others) and Wizz RSS
Apart from all the excellent NPR podcasts around, the most entertaining and impressive thing I've come across in the pod-o-sphere is the wonderful phenomenon of "podiobooks". The premier innovator and author/narrator/podcaster in this genre is Mr. Scott Sigler of Earthcore fame. If you missed the hugely enjoyable Earthcore experience you can still catch up with it (details at http://scottsigler.net/ ) and then get stuck in to Sigler's more recent Ancestor and (now in progress) Infection. There are many other great authors appearing at sites such as http://podiobooks.com/ and http://podcastalley.com/ (I'm currently listening to Singularity by Bill DeSmedt, courtesy of podiobooks). As for software, I know what you mean about the paucity of good stuff out there but I recently found the Wizz RSS newsreader extension for Firefox ( http://www.wizzcomputers.com/ )and it's really damned good. It even let me import the OPML file (whatever the fsck that is) for my podiobooks.com subscriptions.

Free Talk Live
Free Talk Live is about the only podcast I listen to. Podcast Alley is a pretty decent directory.

Re:uh, uh, uh, uh,
Got a URL to the Hail Mary? Are they podcasting it?
Actually -- if anyone here's interested, the Rosary Army does have a pretty good podcast. (At least, I'm a subscriber.) -
Radio sucks
Since my early youth back in the stoneages, I've been an eager radio listener. The radio had personalities, and a great mix of the music they loved. But gradually, the DJs stopped playing the music they loved, and was forced into rotating a small set of really annoying "hits" intertwined with an enourmous amount of amazingly annoying advertising. With the recent payola scandals in radio, the spirit is definitely gone.
And this is in Norway. I hear gruesome tales of the situation in the United States of ClearChannel stations.
Podcasting is taking the air back. For the longest time I couldn't be bothered to listen, because it's such a benign concept on the surface (and the term "podcast" is so braindead). But eventually I got myself a $75 mp3 player and started sampling some of the shows, and now I listen every day, to a wide variety of fun and/or interesting shows. With the "Podsafe Music Network", a collection of independent music approved for play on podcasts, growing every day, there's a decent amount of great music in the shows too.
If you want to get started with podcast listening, I recommend setting up Juice and subscribing to Adam Curry's Daily Source Code. It's a show about podcasts, playing (amongst other things) promos for other shows that you may want to listen to. Before you know it, your subscription list has grown plenty. Some of the shows are just plain crap, poorly done, almost perfectly uninteresting, but then some are really worth listening to. Check out Podcast Alley for some of the most popular shows. -

They rank highly in http://www.podcastalley.com/ ... but it's not iTunes :) -
Re:Podcasting Laws?
Adam Curry and the guy behind Coverville, at the very least pay ASCAP licensing fees.
See this topic on Podcast Alley for details. -
I enjoy PodcastsI really enjoy podcasts. There really isn't any interesting programming here in Finland and with three kids it's pretty impossible to tune in at some weekly schedule.
I also recently got an iPod Mini. This part is essential. A portable media player that is. I only listen to podcasts when "travelling". On my way to work, lunch breaks, walks, etc... Listening while at the computer doesn't really work for me. Can't focus.
Now I can get interesting programming and listen to it any time I get a few minutes free.
I feel I've been given a chance to experience good entertainment in a both new (internet) and old (audio/radio) way. Excellent value.

Podcasting More than Ego Masturbation
"Web Logging and Podcasting are the ultimate in ego masturbation."
That's insightful?
Most Slashdot posting is ego masturbation, too, but there's room for lots of voices, so there's usually something interesting to read, too!
There are many interesting podcasts, and a lot of garbage, too. People interested in new technology should check them out and make up their own minds.
Here's some good places to start:

The lack of commercials alone was enough to get me interested!
