Re:Lighting a lot of fires...
The X Prize was established in 1995. Ansari is a much more recent supporter.

Re:Will the revolution be televised?
Answering my own question the Ansari X-Prize webiste has a link to a September 29th live webcast of the launch. The link is in the top, right hand corner.
Currently, that link has videos of the other launches made by Scaled Composites. It looks like there is an external camera, a wing camera, and a cockpit camera. Hopefully they have all three rolling on Wednesday =)

September 29 at the Mojave airport, CaliforniaIf you live in Southern California, its not too far to go to see the launch. From the Ansari web site:
launch currently scheduled for approximately 6:47 a.m.
Parking is $35. My boss is letting some of us trade 1/2 day off Wednesday for some Saturday work - we will car pool and split the fee. There is more expensive, premium parking available - but we can't tell what that buys us.

SpaceShipOne Flights scheduled for 9/29 and 10/13
SpaceShipOne Flights are planed for September 29th, 2004, October 13th, 2004 at the Mojave Airport, Civilian Aerospace Test Center in Mojave,
California.
Press release
I just went up to Mojave this weekend to see what was around and there was almost nothing to see and all was closed.
I Don't think they are in any way prepared for the turnout they are going to get for this next flight.
Rutan's team has a very good chance success being he's already done it with one test pilot. No matter this outcome these will be a historic event.

There is as group preserving "Vintage" computersThere are groups devoted to preservation of obsolete tech out there. I am a member, I hold on to a pair of 286s, and 386s. These computers though obsolete, are not useless. People need to realize that an XT will do many useful things, but you need to look a little for software. The key advantge of this is you can generally get freeware off the net and it costs yo nothing. These machines are stable too. The only problems I have with my 386s is that they have too little hard drive space for all the apps I want to run. These are some of my of my personal favorite vintage computing sites. Uncreative Labs. 386 world The Ultimate 386 Page
These computers are forgotten by most, but not by us. People throw them away, and we take them home.

Not illegal, if you ever legally owned (and did not sell) a copy of Windows 1.0 ..

Re:nice, but uselessWell, Micro$oft isn't giving away Windows 3.1, but someone else is:

You can even get Windows 1.x! You can't say Microsoft hasn't made some progress.
