    You could use MURS along with a ham rig. Or even better if you have the time, use a licensed frequency.

    Um, "$9.95 (yeah, right)" ... $9.95, yep, right. Thousands of places offer this kind of deal, and people take it because they pretty much know they will always want internet access and will want to save as much money as possible.

    Unlicensed NLOS with a range up to 20 miles. Only supports 14Kb/sec or so, but that's all CDPD supports, and it costs $30/month. Now why hasn't anyone come out with cards running on MURS frequencies? I sure would buy one.

    When I saw this radio first announced a few months ago I couldn't figure out how they'd get FCC approval - transmitting data via FRS IS illegal already, unless they can argue that it is a "tone to make contact" with another user. See this section of this FRS FAQ which references some law that i'm too lazy to look up

    The Fender XII was a solid-body 12-string discontinued in the late 60's. It had two split pickups. Too much guitar trivia knowledge is a sign of a misspent youth.
