Use a different password for each site
Using a different password for each site is the ultimate in security; however, without a password manager of some sort, it becomes too difficult to manage such a large list of passwords. Thankfully, OSS password managers such as Revelation and Figaro Password Manager exist! Personally, I use revelation; however, both are excellent pieces of software!

A Fast Anonymous Proxy that I use
Often, when browsing from work, you don't need 100% anonyminity. Its not like you are logging onto your bank accounts from work, but you often want to visit a site that you don't want your employer to know about. For this reason, I use two fast anonymous web proxies. The First offers quick anonymous browsing (good enough for work) without any additional software to install. The Second has a simpler/cleaner interface.

Stupid Patents - How about XOR
Did you know that the XOR function was patented and earned the Patent Holder countless millions until it recently expired? are also patented!? This patent was actually enforced in 1994 to stop the sale of the Amiga Computer in the USA after Commodore stopped paying royalties on the patent. The XOR function was used to move the cursor around the screen.
Patents on algorithms and software should be disallowed.. as these types of patents are ripe for abuse!

Future of Fusion
Hopefully this points to a future where large scale fusion reactors are both economical and widely used.
I'm sorry... but while this teenagers work is certainly commendable and nothing to sneeze at (in fact, Large engineering firms such as Siemens seem to take an interest in him). His work does nothing to further research in the field. Non-sustaining fusion reactors have been around for decades, and its been widely known how to build one for at least 20 years. For most people, the cost is the limiting factor. Why would you want to spend $50k-100k on something that uses more energy than it produces?
Now when we finally get a sustainable fusion reaction that produces more energy that it uses, that would be something to write about!

Vista Symlinks not accessible via in XP and 2000
People are asking questions about VISTA Symlinking on MSDN. See this thread. The Vista symlink seems to have not much more functionality than "shortcuts" did in Windows 95 or Windows 98.
The issue at hand is why was the API left so incomplete that remote accessing a share that utilizes Vista Symlinking does not work? This is a large oversight on Microsofts part, and basically makes Symlinking useless. Fortunately, Symlinking works great via Samba. Another reason to stick with Linux..

Here's some videos of Embodied Intelligence
Back when I was in University, I did my master's thesis on Embodied Intelligence. I developed a virtual world that adhered to the laws of physics using the ODE physics engine, and within this artificial physical environment I evolved embodied agents. It's quite interesting to watch the videos and see the fluid, almost life-like motions of the evolved behaviors.
I never got around to actually downloading the evolved neural networks into robots, although all my source code is GPL'ed and posted at the above site. So if somebody wanted to evolve their own creatures and download the evolved intelligence into an actual physical robot, it would be interesting to see the results

Roughly 90% of web content consists of Porn
"Roughly 90% of web content consists of discussions of software patents, so it's a little surprising that Ben Klemens has written what may be the first dead-trees book analyzing their validity...
When a review or article begins with a statement that is so absurdly incorrect, it makes me wonder how factual or researched the rest of the review can be. One can only hope that the Author meant to say that 90% of discussions over copyright are related to the web or occur on the web. Otherwise, I would take the rest of his review with a grain of salt.

Give it some time
Ok People, you waited this long for Edgy Eft.. You surely can wait a few weeks longer till they get these upgrade issues sorted out. In the meantime, feel free to use the Edgy LiveCD.
Personally, I wouldn't risk upgrading my Dapper installation just yet. Rather, I would either install from scratch, or wait for these issues to be worked out

Munich has always been ahead of the curve
Munich is the Capitol of Bavaria, Germany. Bavaria is the high tech capitol of Germany and the richest state in Germany. They have always been ahead of the curve. It is no wonder that they are migrating to Linux and adopting open source software where it makes sense. With Munich being home of some of the largest high tech companies in the world, it would make sense for the government of Munich to adopt similar policies. I for one, praise Munich and it's government for thinking out of the box. The licensing fees they will save on Windows can certainly be spent better elsewhere.

May be older than 30 years old
Historians of science will certainly spend time sorting out the various claims. David Kahn, the author of the best selling history The Codebreakers, said that he recently asked the National Security Agency to declassify some documents so he could write the proper history of public key cryptography. He said an NSA staff member told him, "I've spoken to the guys who did this, but they don't want to be interviewed now." This suggests that the NSA also may have discovered public-key systems or had a hand in exploring them. Kahn hopes that the NSA will follow in Britain's lead so an accurate history can be written.
It is likely that the NSA discovered public key Cryptography in the late 60's or early 70's. Public Key Cryptography may be as old as 40 years old at this point, but without clarification from the NSA, we will never be certain.
