Instead of wishing for sequels...
How about you buy the great games made by the same people? You have the fantastic Psychonauts, a hilarious game with fantastic artwork, available cheaply everywhere in the world from Steam. You also have the new Sam and Max series for more adventure heavy games. Haven't played any of those episodes yet, but reportedly also fantastic.
Don't sit there and complain about lack of originality in today's games market. There are PC games out there just as good as the golden classics you remember, please buy them and give the makers an incentive to continue! -
I miss good newsletters
I actually miss the days when developers' newsletters were fun to read, instead of just occasional e-mail blasts. There are definitely some companies still doing a good job of it, though. I really enjoyed Double Fine's Boot Camp Bulletin, which was the Psychonauts newsletter. (Shameless plug:) The company I work for also does a pretty good job, in my opinion: Telltale Interloper. I think it's largely a case of trying to put a bit of personality behind the company, which is what older printed newsletters used to do. I'd love to see more of it

Psychonauts
Erik Wolpaw also co-wrote Double Fine's Psychonauts, and won a Game Developers Choice Award for that effort.

Re:I'm tired
I feel the same way. The only game that's actually felt "fresh" to me in a long time has been Psychonauts.
Reviews are great. Definitely check it out. -
Shameless plug
I loved Beyond Good and Evil. The Zelda series also qualifies as action/adventure.
I really miss the old Sierra/Lucasarts games though.
I actually still play them. Sam and Max, Day of the Tentacle, Space Quest, The Dig, etc. etc.
Have you checked out Psychonauts? It's by Tim Shafer's studio, Double Fine, and is very much a hybrid platformer/adventure. It's available for Xbox, PS2, and PC. (Tim Shafer was the director of Full Throttle and Grim Fandango.)
(Full disclosure: I'm one of the game's developers.) -
Control on the PC?Can you use a gamepad with the PC version? I guess I'll try it tonight. I bought this for the PC but using the keyboard for everything (you can't use a mouse) is a total pain and I didn't see anywhere to customize controls for a gamepad. I got through a few levels and quit. Since then I bought the fantastic Psychonauts and a gamepad to use with it. I'll try the gamepad tonight to see if it works. If it doesn't, I wouldn't bother with this game on the PC. If it does, I suggest the Logitech Dual Action Gamepad. It works and feels just like a PS2 controller and is very responsive.
On another note, I'd mark down Lego Star Wars a bit because of the collection element. You really have to hit or use the force on almost everything in the game to collect blocks. Along with that and how repetitive it is, I think 7.0 is about right.
On the other hand, I would give Psychonauts a 9.5. Each new mind you enter is completely different with different puzzles and atmosphere, so it's not repetitive at all. Of course there's still the collection aspect, but it doesn't get in the way of the gameplay and you don't really need to do it much. It may be too difficult for younger kids, but it's very funny and there is not much that would bother them.
