Preview of New Games at E3 2005
Joystiq (once again answering my hailing frequencies) has up a preview of some of the new titles that will be seeing the light of day at this year's e3. A smattering of some of the games: "The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, D&D Online, UFO: Aftershock, Battlefield 2, Black and White 2, The Sims 2: Nightlife, Guild Wars, Metroid Prime Hunters, Shadow the Hedgehog, Destroy All Humans" This year we're going to have an E3 topic for your browsing convenience.
Atelier Iris ~Eternal Mana~ and Makai Kingdom: Chronicles of the Sacred Tome, were under the nintendo section? When both are for the PS2?
Shadow the Hedgehog. Packin' some heat. Laying down the lead.
I have high hopes, like maybe he'll put some bitches in their place or jack a sweet caddy to roll in.
Sometimes my arms bend back.
Will Wright's latest brainchild should have more people drooling over the idea, not just us already rabid fanbois. :)
Graduate of the LeRoy Funkified Badass School of Soul.
How many these games will I be able to run on my Mac and Linux workstations? (I don't run Windows)
Is there anyone out there waiting for Black and White 2?
Also, has Peter Molyneux made a good game since Syndicate? I mean he's clearly hard working, he's willing to take risks on high concept games, and his graphics and tech are of good quality, but in the end, the gameplay is always as week as American beer.

said it all: "2004 was truly a banner year ... how many years can we have that contain UT2004, Doom 3, Painkiller, and Half-Life 2?" (here)
... It's hard to expect anything even close to 2004's precedent again. I'll probably be recycling 2004 for a long, long time.
Not to mention LOTR: Battle for Middle-earth, Katamari Damacy, Prince of Persia
As for most everything else, I guarantee E3 will be about the only time they'll get much attention.
No sig for you!!
SAILING MISHAP
The sad thing is that I think these games will get underrepresented because of the new hardware and their respective next-gen games. This is a shame, because as recent releases clearly show developers are finally getting a handle on the systems, moving beyond pretty graphics, and really putting out some great stuff.
This is actually the best time to own an Xbox, PS2, or Gamecube. They're cheap - they'll probably drop again this fall to compete - and the software is now top-notch.

;)
Does this mean that there will be an entire section on Slashdot for E3 links? This brings to mind an idea I've had for a while...Slashdot needs sub sections. Just as games is a "section" of slashdot.org, there should be different sub-sections of the games dept. Like this for example could be either e3.games.slashdot.org (maybe a lil too confusing?) or you could have games.slashdot.org/e3/?
Sadly enough, the games section of Slashdot doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves. The games section should have as many posts as the rest of the site combined (because there really is that much news/reviews/etc everyday in gaming) if not more... I want a fps.slashdot.org, a rpg.slashdot.org, a platformers.slashdot.org, and more. Over half the "tech" news on the internet involves gaming, so how come there's so little on here? [/rant]
"A truly wise man realizes he knows nothing."
I'm hoping that "Mispellars Too: The Legand of Replacing the Second E With an A" comes out soon for the Gamecuba.
Heh, it's quite apparent he took some ideas out of his past games. Sucha as Simearth, where the evolution went from bacterial stage to the stone age into the modern world and then into the exodus.
Not saying it's a bad idea, Simearth was a good idea but it was hard to understand for most people. This game is probably alot more easier to grasp.
And I really don't mind the idea of severeal types of gameplay in one game. My favorite games are hybrids after all. I just hope it's smooth between thoose games.
I've been reading some of the posts over at the Elder Scrolls:Oblivion forums, and I gotta say, this game looks impressive. Larger than Morrowind in land mass along with updated graphics, but mostly it's the NPCs I'm interested in. There were only two drawbacks that I could name in Morrowind...the journal, the NPC interaction. The journal they clearly fixed. The NPCs are supposed to have much better AI this time, along with voice acting for every spoken word, facial expressions and an AI approaching a personality.
I'm stoked for this game to come out.

Wanna help me kill all the humans?
ArenaNet's superb CORPG Guild Wars will hopefully get a good showing at E3 with it's forthcoming 28th April release. No monthly fees, top-notch competitive PvP, stunning graphics... all just in time to ruin my summer! :-) I'd highly recommend any self-respecting gamer checks this gem out ASAP.
BTW, nice screenshot in TFA. What is it from??? Great writing...
One man's Funny is another man's Offtopic.
Am I the only one who is not excited by the offerings this year for PCs? For the first time in a long while there are no titles that are "must have" in this particular lineup. While some gems might emerge at E3, the real innovation seems to be shifting from the PC to the consoles.
And is not a lot like its predecessors. It is also listed amongst gamespot's top games of the year, but I am too lazy to dig up links.
Unlike burnout 2 I found the racing actually fun.
Takedown mode on X-Box live is great, where you race and attempt to knock out your competitors.
Its probably the best arcade style racer ever.
The only disappointment is that Burnout 2 (On cube admittedly) handled Widescreen HD better.
The few 480p widescreen titles on cube such as eternal darkness and Burnout two don't show scaling effects on widescreen, while many X-Box HD titles stretch on widescreen.
By simply looking at the long list of titles for the xbox (and the rather short list for xbox 2) is easy to conclude the xbox2 will be backwards compatible. I mean you cant even find (new) xbox 1 on sale anymore. (although that may change in the future) so why would publishers keep releasing so many games for that format after the xbox 2 had been released?
Also worth noting where are the
Gamecube2 titles? (they are supossed to be working on them now)
Playstation3 titles? (Same here)
PSP titles???! (6 titles? and almost the half of them from EA? come on! there are supposed to be a good bunch of titles in developing!)
Go ahead MOD my day!
More opinions here
Okay, I admit if you like sims and FPS, you probably salivate at the list so far. I'm not seeing much on that list that will WOW me, because I'm not big on sims of any kind or FPS. DDR Mario is out there on a limb, because it's all by itself in terms of different types of games. I would expect some unusual games to debut at E3, but I think they hold the big surprises for the show.
Still, no "WOW" games for me. Looks like "more of the same" given all the sequels.

This is going to sound harsh, but the games section doesn't need any more attention then it is currently getting.
With the science, IT, etc sections, you have people posting who know what they are talking about, and make well thought out, excellent posts. Yes, you have the soviet hot grits posts there too, but not so much.
In the games, as well as the politics section, you have rampant fanboyism regurgitating the same three comments again and again.
I wanted to believe, but the Games.slashdot section is little better than the Gamefaqs message board.
Count your blessings slashcode does not encourage 100 users making posts containing but one word:"bump"
Don't they mean Neverwinter Nights 2?P? In any case, I really hope that Obsilidian has a small both showcasing it, I still play the first one to this day, and while it wasn't perfect, it's probably the best D&D game avalable for any system to day. Or if not the best, the one that still has the most players still playing....or roleplaying, rather.
