Re:Government doing business...
Take your pick:
No, you take a pick of a citation, that supports your assertions.
Do fossil fuels get a pass when people whine about "subsidized" renewable energy?
They certainly don't, if this conversation is any guide.
You seem to believe cash in a savings account and investment in property or businesses are the same, which they are not.
Of course, they aren't.
the cost of using fossil fuels has been kept artificially low for decades
I don't know, if "low" is the right term, but I agree, that "lower" is correct. And that's a shame, though some people claim, much more subsidizing is needed — the better to destroy what little is left of America's capitalism.
But fossil fuels would've been usable — and profitable — without the subsidies too, whereas the solar panel wouldn't be. They just barely pay off (and not always) even with the subsidies and incentives.

Money buys justice
Only Thiel had the financial resources to take on Gawker. Even Hulk Hogan couldn't afford to.
Money can also buy injustice http://rall.com/2016/08/16/ant...

Bad vs. Awful
tell me how we are one iota better off today with the democrat in the White House.
Your justifiable disappointment in both parties leads you to renouncing both of them equally, which is not justifiable in the slightest.
Had a Republican won, we would've still been capturing enemies to be held in Guantanamo — instead of simply killing them. Osama bin Laden would've been on trial, rather than fallen victim to extrajudicial killing .
Putin would not have dared to invade Ukraine. Gaddafi — who has made amends with US after seeing the capture of Saddam Hussein on TV — would've remained in charge of Lybia, instead of that country plunging into chaos. We wouldn't have left Iraq in such haste, which would've kept ISIS in check.
Domestically we would not have had the grossly unpopular Obamacare forced upon us with such vigor, most people — proponents and detractors alike — could not even understand the proposed law before the voting took place.
Republicans and Democrats are an inbred family, sleeping together for the past three generations.
Though the less principled "centrists" or "pragmatists" of the two parties do meet in the middle like stalactites and stalagmites, as those geological phenomena they too come from opposite ends.

Re:you mean you HEAR fireworks
Simple answer for a simple question: how could Israel poooosibly make a proportionate response?
using the same targeting principle (i.e. aim where the concentration of people is highest)?
i.e., not killing a single person until late in 2016. As opposed to the current round of mass slaughter that you're endorsing, one that is wiping out entire families at a time.

"I knew Obamacare would be bad..."
"...but I seriously had no idea it would be this bad."
How would you design a Healthcare Extortion Racket?
"New York State's healthcare plans range from Fidelis Care's 'Bronze' plan at $810.84 per month to $2554.71 per month for something I didn't bother to look up because if I had $2500+ a month to spend on doctors, I'd buy a doctor and have him/her live with me and dole out pills like I was Michael Jackson. The deductibles - the amount you pay out of pocket every year before you the insurer has to give you anything at all - are outrageously high. Fidelis Care Bronze has a $3000/year deductible per person. I'm in pretty good health; it's a rare year I spend that much on doctors. After the $3000/year deductible, they pay 50% of your bills. So if you rack up $5000/year in medical bills, you pay $4000 and they pay $1000. Pretty damned crappy."
Repeat, from my JE.

Re:I'm amazed...
What would you have us do with him?
Do I really need to explain this to a 21st century American? Ok... Here goes: Try him. In a court of law. Some people aren't bothered by the apparent illegalities of the War on Terror, and if you are one of them, then you would not understand, what I'm talking about.
But if you did protest Bush's extrajudicial detentions of the accused terrorists in Gitmo, you should be even louder protesting Obama's extrajudicial killings of the same people.

Re:Wow, don't have opinions online..
I had a prof who said 'I know what it takes to be a real physicist, and none of you have it' and failed the entire class.
Same thing happened to Ted Rall, the cartoonist. He was an engineering student at Columbia, and a visiting professor from England pulled the same line. http://www.rall.com/uploaded_images/YOLD1-89-28-717289.JPG
Professors like that are assholes. There was a series of articles in Science about the problems of science teaching in the US, and why good students don't go into a science career. That was one of the problems. A lot of physics profs take it upon themselves to "pull out the weeds." A scientist said, "They're not pulling out the weeds, they're tearing up the whole garden."
